The Texans Game Is Starting To Loom Large.
I knew blowing that game was gonna come back and bite us. We could be 6-4 right in the middle of the playoff chase, but instead we're sitting at 5-5. We're still very much in it, but we could have been sitting pretty if we didn't blow that game.
I'm new to this site and I've been on the other (extremeskins) Redskins site. Unlike over their, I hope the posters over here realize "AFC games are important." |
Re: The Texans Game Is Starting To Loom Large.
Well you could also look at the Rams game and wonder what if. Of course all games matter, but in conference games carry more weight come playoff time. I think that's the one you have to look at and wish we had back. Even at 6-4 we'd still be in a log jam for the wildcard.
|
Re: The Texans Game Is Starting To Loom Large.
Yes, they blew that game. Right now the team needs to concentrate on one game at a time, especially with the amount of injuries. I don't want this team make it to the playoffs and get embarrassed again with all the lack of depth due to injuries. Hopefully the youngsters can step it up like Keiland Williams.

I was thinking the same thing and you could even throw the Detroit game into that mix. I understand that it wasn't as close though. |
Re: The Texans Game Is Starting To Loom Large.
I would say that any of the 5 losses are doing that for real. Why the Texans game ? That's an AFC game. Not the Rams, Lions, or most of all the Eagles since that was a Divisional opponent ?
|
Re: The Texans Game Is Starting To Loom Large.
I think the Texans game hurts because the one time we get such a good lead we give it back. That was extremely frustrating and 6-4 would be a far better place to be.
Having said that, if we manage to scrape our way back into the tiebreaking system (ace can give you the breakdown on that), then the texans loss will not be the one to keep us out. I also wonder if Shanny is regretting pulling McNabb at the end of the Detroit game now. I know he will never fess up to it, but ya gotta wonder. |

We blew the Texans game. You can't lose a game that you had a 14 point lead in the 2nd half at home. We didn't really blow those other games. We just got outplayed. |
Re: The Texans Game Is Starting To Loom Large.
True, I was at the Texans game so it did suck ass. So it's more so the way they lost and not so much the loss because they had the game won. I got you !
Welcome to the board ! |

I think we all know Shanny should not have pulled McNabb. With that being said, with the way the game was going, I don't think it would have made a difference. The Lions D was living in our backfield by the time McNabb was pulled. |
Re: The Texans Game Is Starting To Loom Large.
If shouldda, couldda wouldda. Playoff teams don't let the Texans game get away. Their best player made a play and we couldn't stop it. The Green Bay and Dallas games could've easily been losses too.
|
Re: The Texans Game Is Starting To Loom Large.
The loss at Detroit is the killer because we had a 5-point lead and the ball in the fourth quarter. Plus, Detroit is terrible (2-8), and we had no excuse losing to them.

Kyle should have ran the ball there and taken off some clock. Worst case scenario is we punt and make them drive the field or make them use their time outs when they get the ball back. Bad coaching can lose games too. |

Your right but getting there is half the battle and they would have experience being there which would be a plus. I would just like to see the team have winning record. It's hard usually to go from 4-12 and changing the GM, HC, OC, DC,QB, and scheme on both sides of the ball and have a winning record. We come out of this 9-7 at the end... I'm happy. 8-8 would be alright but I felt we were better then 8-8. The only confusing part is we are winning the games we should be losing and losing the games we should be winning. |
Re: The Texans Game Is Starting To Loom Large.
The Texans game did hurt .. you can't say Rams ( we just plain lost ) .. lions have our number ... the Texans game hurts the most because we were rolling on offense and just gave away that game .. all that being said .. 5-5 makes me super proud and pumped to be a Skins fan .. the way this team showed up on Sunday really showed me the ship is headed in the right direction ...

And here I was thinking the Lions and Rams games were looming larger. There was no excuse for losing those games.

Well the difference to me is... St. Louis DEFINTLEY outplayed us... Detroit probaboly did, although we kind of blew that. The Texans we pretty much dominated for three quarters, then decided not to show up for the 4th. |

I was thinking the same thing. We are fortunate to be at 5-5... very fortunate. You could easily throw in the first Eagles game too. Hell, Vick plays the first game, Barber chips Rak, and Clay Matthews doesn't tweak his hammy, we're singing a different tune. The Texans game hurt but I don't think it will be a dagger. |
Re: The Texans Game Is Starting To Loom Large.
It's the Lions game that gets to me. If McNabb doesn't throw that late, foolish interception while we still had the lead, then likely we are 6-4 right now.

I think it's now safe to say, you might as well throw the 1st Eagles game in there too. If we are not good enough to play in the playoffs, I don't want to mathematically sqeek in there. Now if we get real hot for the rest of the season and fall short, then I will be disappointed, unless that happens I'm not sweating making the playoffs this season. We simply would be no competition. |

Agreed. I'll you what other game gets to me. And that's the Colts. When we recovered the fumble late in the game on the punt (I believe) and marched down inside the 10 (down 7) but had to settle for a field goal. That sucked. I thought we played as good as we've played in a long time in that game, and a win over the Colts would have served notice to the league (and probably many of our own fans) that this team isn't just about luck |
Re: The Texans Game Is Starting To Loom Large.
Reality check, we could easily be 0-10 never mind 6-4.

That game bothers me more than any other game this year. You get the ball back with 5 min left up 5 and you come out passing the ball with a shitty line that was getting manhandled? I wanted to reach through the screen and strangle Kyle S. |

we're going 11-5!!!!!...............WHHHOOOO!!!....let the team listen to "Don't Stop Believing" non stop....okay but seriously every loss blows nfc more than afc but still...they happened its over, we just have to hope we have some more heroic performances from our team with all those injuries.

I couldn't believe we didn't run then either, my only thought at the time was it must have been because they didn't have confidence yet in Williams and Torain was hurt |

How is what our record could be... a reality check? Reality is we're 5-5. And that's a fact. |

Unlike over their, I hope the posters over here realize "AFC games are important."
I like the idea of your post but if it comes down to tiebreakers, AFC games are technically the least important, because division games and conference record are both considered before they are. So right now the Rams and Lions games are looming large, wins over both of these teams would seriously help our cause right about now. |
Re: The Texans Game Is Starting To Loom Large.
How what our record could be... a reality check?
Reality is we're 5-5. And that's a fact.
Are you sure? Can you prove that's a fact? I believe right now in the "Truly good team to beat standings" that we are somewhere between 3-7 and 2-8, which would explain why we aren't even in the running for the playoffs at this point in the season. Those standings are more important than actual NFL standings because those standings measure how much of a good team you actually are, not how many wins you have. |
Re: The Texans Game Is Starting To Loom Large.
DM72.I certainly understand what you're saying and we could be 6-4.
But we just can't think that way, although it sucks. Because we could also be 4-6 if Gano misses the OT kick against G.B. (and theysomehow win) Or 3-7 if he misses the OT kick against Tennessee (and they somehow win) Or even 2-8 if he misses that kick against Chicago and we somehow lose that one as well. We should be happy we have 1 more win than we had last season. And I know there are some gano haters on the boards, but he is arguably the reason we are 5-5 and not worse... And Ironically and back to your topic...the one he makes, then gets iced...then misses on his 2nd try against the texans, could possibly cost us a playoff birth and a current 6-4 record instead of our 5-5 record. But I have no doubt...if we have Suisham...I'm not even posting playoff scenario's, because we are right there with the cowboys or worse. |

Honestly, the Warpath is giving me a headache these last few weeks. Between "real" facts, real facts, woulda shoulda coulda facts. I don't get it. We are 5-5, that's it. There is no BCS. There is no fairy that will make us 7-3. We have struggled. We have beat good teams. We have lost to bad teams. That's what a 5-5 team generally does. |
