Oh no, members of our armed forced won't be able to shower in peace.

Don't drop the soap.

Re: Senate Passes Historic 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Repeal
Good. Bout time the military joined everybody else in the 21st century.
... well, MOST everybody else. |
Re: Senate Passes Historic 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Repeal
I wonder why there is a 60 day waiting period and how the federal goverment will make this change cost us a few billion. Is it not as simple as saying we will now let gays serve.
|
Re: Senate Passes Historic 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Repeal
Government always finds ways to come up with billions of dollars to spend.

Re: Senate Passes Historic 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Repeal
I'm in favor of passing legislation called "Don't Tell, Don't Care". Basically it's a bill that creates 10 million jobs in the US somehow.

If there was a like button on the Warpath, I'd be pressing it frantically. |
Re: Senate Passes Historic 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Repeal
I say sign them all up then after basic training send them to Afghanistan.

What makes you think some of them aren't already there? With all of the wars this country is just itching to get into, I'd say the military needs all the help it can get. |
Re: Senate Passes Historic 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Repeal
I love the argument some make that "allowing" gays into the military will hurt our military effectiveness because our "allies" in some places are less accepting and that will make it harder to work with them. Haha. That's a good one. Like the same "allies" are just fine with the women and minorities that make up like half of our forces. You can be black and a woman in Saudi Arabia but god forbid you're gay. Then you're out. Idiot argument.

Re: Senate Passes Historic 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Repeal
As someone who served overseas for 6 years, lets just say it's not much of a secret that there are a lot of gay men and women serving. 90% of the time, it's no big deal, everyone knows and just goes about their business. But that other 10% can get pretty ugly, so this legislation is definitely a good thing.

ditto. I think a lot of anti-gays in the military people have this image of Liberacci in camo or something. |
Re: Senate Passes Historic 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Repeal
Is this, and the financial recovery the only two major accomplishments under Obama?
I am not saying they were positive or negative, but largest in terms of scope/impact. |

Thanks for making it political, first. I can always count on you for doing that. Way to completely ignore my 2nd sentence in the post.

Your Welcome. I think with a thread title that starts (Senate Passes) made it a political thread and its also in the political forum. |
Re: Senate Passes Historic 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Repeal
Each thread naturally splits into subthreads based on the ongoing conversation. It was clear I wasn't saying one or the other were effective.

Re: Senate Passes Historic 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Repeal
Most of the time when the President signs a big bill they surrounds themself with the people that the bill helps. For example when he signed health care he had a few people there that the bill would help. See picture below and by the way check out Nancy Pelosi.
Now for this bill I figured he would have had a few gays there. Hell he didn't even have Barney Frank there as he signed the bill. LOL |

Look at her expression between the two pictures and maybe that tells the story. |

and so, once again, my witty sarcasm falls prey to the emotionless void that is internet bulletin boards. |
Re: Senate Passes Historic 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Repeal
My brother is a Lt. Colonel in the Army and is about to take command this spring and he says one of the biggest issues that this brings up is legistical concerns like housing, combat etc.... Things that also had to be considered when females entered the field (what to do during that time of the month etc...) Overall he does not seem to mind too much, it is what it is. It is just more of a legistical thing at least in some ways. I wish I could tell you more about our conversation but it was Thanksgiving and I was hitting the wine pretty hard.
