Bowl Game Prospects--->Future Redskins?
Which players/draft prospects from the bowl games this year do you think would look great in 'Skins Uniforms next year?
|
Re: Bowl Game Prospects--->Future Redskins?
Cameron Hayward DE (3-4) Ohio State
Ryan Mallett QB Arkansas Austin Pettis WR Boise State Allen Bailey DE (3-4) Miami Prince Amakamura CB Nebraska Tejay Johnson FS TCU Rodney Hudson G/C FSU Mike Pouncey G/C Florida Kenny Tate FS Maryland |
Re: Bowl Game Prospects--->Future Redskins?
Von Miller OLB Texas A&M:
He's strong, fast to the qb and can cover, but i don't watch much college football. I just watched him last night against LSU and was impressed and had read earlier how Haslett would like another olb to get after the qb to complement Orakpo. He may be the BPA when it's our turn to draft. |
Re: Bowl Game Prospects--->Future Redskins?
Right now my gut says we're drafting Miller, even though the buzz is Locker and Quinn
|
Re: Bowl Game Prospects--->Future Redskins?
Delaware lost their bowl game last night,but QB Pat Devlin looked pretty good.he would be a bargin picked in the middle rounds although he might go in the third round.
|
Re: Bowl Game Prospects--->Future Redskins?
Devlins on their radar but doubt they take him at 2nd or that he'll be there in the 5th
|
Re: Bowl Game Prospects--->Future Redskins?
1.Justin Blackmon- great size and athleticism.. Speed and hands.
2.M.Pouncey- Monster C/G that would be our future along with TW for years. 3. V.Miller- watched him play OU this season and dominated almost every play, would love another athletic DE/LB. 4. Andy Dalton- all he does is win, good size and accurate. (Not with the 10th pick though) |
Re: Bowl Game Prospects--->Future Redskins?
Pouncey(C), Moffett(G), and his Outland trophy pal from Wisconsin. We could always use another LT.
|
Re: Bowl Game Prospects--->Future Redskins?
Locker should not be drafted. Washington won with his running, and not his arm. If we are going to get a QB with an arm it is either Mallet or Gabbert. Devlin looked sharp enough to get drafted by someone. If he is around in say the 4th round for some reason, I wouldn't be pissed at all if we grabbed him.
|
Re: Bowl Game Prospects--->Future Redskins?
Heyward would be killer for us, but he might not be around even at 10
|
Re: Bowl Game Prospects--->Future Redskins?
I haven't seen that many bowl games this year, but of the ones I've seen I agree that Pouncey, Carimi, Blackmon, Dalton, Hayward, and Tate looked very good. On the other hand, I think Mallett is a statue and doesn't fit us well.
To me, Blaine Gabbert (QB Missouri) had a great game and Stephan Wisniewski (playing RG for PSU) looked great, too. Wisniewski may play C in the NFL. I think they will both be 1st Round selections, though Wisniewski could slip to the 2nd Round where he would be a bargain, IMHO. I loved the way Owen Marecic played for Stanford. He was terrific at FB, LB, and ST. At 6-1 244, he could play either FB or ILB (probably FB) and he is a beast on ST. His versatility reminds me of our own Lorenzo Alexander. He might well be worth a 5th Round pick. Da'Rel Scott of Maryland had two long TD runs against an, admittedly, pathetic ECU defense. But Da'Rel is very fast and sturdy at 5-11 200+, he catches the ball well, and he's a good KR. At times, he can look like a pro and then he can disappear. Nevertheless, I think he has exceptional physical talents that would be worth giving him a shot at becoming a 3rd down back. Perhaps using a 7th Round pick on him makes sense. |
Re: Bowl Game Prospects--->Future Redskins?
Shameless plug: you can go back and watch nearly every bowl game in its entirety (and jump directly to the big plays) on ESPN3.com
|
Re: Bowl Game Prospects--->Future Redskins?
Gabbert is now the #1 QB in the draft.he will be long gone.if Mallett is also gone,the skins should look to the 2nd rd if anyone is there.
|
Re: Bowl Game Prospects--->Future Redskins?
yes,Andy Dalton would also be a good choice. I'm also going to keep an eye on Colin Kaepernick of Nevada tonight.he could be better than Dalton.

Watch some highlights, he's always around the ball and making big hits. Plus he's 6'4" 220lbs. I like Hankerson at wideout. Good size and I think will be a poor mans Andre Johnson. The whole offensive line at Wisconsin. Those guys are good. Hell, Stanford's also. Von Miller. Could be Orakpo's best friend. Rodney Hudson. Zone blocking stud. Waiting patiently to see Nick Fairley. |
Re: Bowl Game Prospects--->Future Redskins?
gabbert is constantly out of shape and wins with a gimmick offense. quote Walter Football
Locker is too much of a risk and most likely would take a while to become great. Give me Newton or Mallett. Or trade down for locker, and select a good wr and center in the second round. |
Re: Bowl Game Prospects--->Future Redskins?
Is this Pouncey O-lineman related to the Pouncey on the Steelers?
Either way, I'd take him to replace Rabach. |

Re: Bowl Game Prospects--->Future Redskins?
Have to point out my Hokies, even though we got trounced by Luck & Stanford.
Offense: RB, Ryan Williams, McShay had him as #2 back in the draft a couple months ago. I think he may slide. If we had a 3rd round pick he would be a nice pickup. Very talented player, likely to go in the 2nd at the latest. RB, Darren Evans. NOt expected to go high, would be a good late round pick. Tough runner & all around player, not a game breaker & may lack speed. C, Beau Warren: Old Hog Don Warren's son, he is undersized but may be well suited to a zone scheme as he moves well. Likely 7th round or UDFA. Defense: John Graves, DT. Undersized as a DT, will have to play DE & would be ideal in a 3-4 as he could put on lbs. to his 278 lb. frame. Projected to go as high as the 5th. I think he'll be a really good player nfl player in 2-3 years. Rock Charmichael, CB. A solid corner, playmaker & good tackler. Would be a good depth/teams pickup in the 5th or later if he's there. There are a few more but these are the best & they're all good character, solid team players. |

Royal is decent I guess. Not trying to diss VT but they really dont put out great players historically in the NFL.. |

That's true, of course Bruce Smith was pretty good in his day. VT players in the nfl are usually decent starters or reserves, not stars or big names. Guys like John Engelberger, Jake Grove & Pearson Prioleau have had nice careers, but outside of their teams' fans, nobody much knows about them. There are plenty of VT players in the nfl though. You notice in the list it's mainly late round guys. Our skins have mainly late round picks w/5 from rounds 5-7, so some of these guys might be considered. Of course it's great to get starters or star players in the late rounds, but typically you have to be happy if those picks make the team & provide depth & spec. teams. I just realized that I didn't include Tyrod Taylor, QB, or Andre Smith, TE. Both those guys will make a roster, w/Tyrod it will be interesting to see if he plays qb or wr, but I think he will make it, at least for a little while. |
Re: Bowl Game Prospects--->Future Redskins?
So Cam Newton not helping out his draft stock with this game.

He's played pretty well, still raw |

Oh true, but still. Although both teams are playing a very sloppy game. |
Re: Bowl Game Prospects--->Future Redskins?
Yea I wouldn't take Cam at 10 but I would around 20
|
Re: Bowl Game Prospects--->Future Redskins?
I must admit that I there really hasn't been one player in college this year, with the exception of Andrew Luck, that has REALLY impressed me...however...watching Nick Fairley tonight has changed that. Doubt he drops to 10 but if he does we NEED to take this guy. Dude is a monster!!!!!!!!! As DE in our 3-4 he would be lethal.
|
Re: Bowl Game Prospects--->Future Redskins?
The Oregon line looked like Juco players compared to the Auburn D line. Kind of hard to judge based on that. He also acted like a punk and Kirk mentioned he had a reputation as a dirty player. No thanks.
|
Re: Bowl Game Prospects--->Future Redskins?
We want to use Pitt's scheme on defense, but we lack the LB's to do it.. I think Von Miller would be a great 1st round choice after watching him play in the bowl game.
I think we go after a G/C in the 2nd round.. Although, I hope we trade down in reality.. If not.. That's what I want to see. |
Re: Bowl Game Prospects--->Future Redskins?
Cam Newton:
Nick Fairely But no can have. Newton had great numbers and his physical attributes are off the charts. However he doesn't have nearly enough experience and after tonight it was easy to see why spread QB's have trouble transitioning to the NFL. |

Like Mean Joe Green and Warren Sapp? He played great! I'd draft him in a heartbeat. |
Re: Bowl Game Prospects--->Future Redskins?
I'm impressed by Newton, the way he carries himself. But he's such a raw project and simply isn't polished enough to be a first day draft pick. To me he's a mid round QB talent. Very impressed with Nick Fairley too. Not sure if he can play in a 3-4 though but I'd like to get both Pouncey and Fairley.

Fairley may be the number 1 overall pick, so don't bother bringing up the idea of us getting him. And yes, he could definitely play in the 3-4, believe me. I've watched him all year, he is just one of those beast defensive lineman. Absolutely no way I'd want Cam Newton. Like Fairley, I've watched Newton all year, and I don't see him being able to read defenses. I feel like he's a JaMarcus Russell and Vince Young put together. He, at times, looks like Ben Roethlisberger. But I don't see him being nearly as productive in the pros as he was in college. last night in the National Championship game, he threw a pick and threw a couple other near picks. Also if he's ready so confident and cocky in himself, then why didn't he get the ball at all on the game winning drive? I'll pass on Cam Newton. Great College player, not an NFL player. |
