Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
According to Adam Schefter
Pro Bowl cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha's contract voided and he will be allowed to become a free agent without the Oakland Raider being able to use their franchise tag on him, according to an NFL Players Association document. Asomugha’s deal included a little-known clause that said his contract would void if he didn’t achieve his not-likely-to-be-earned incentives in 2010 -- and he didn'’t. I wonder if his number is on Danny boys speed dial yet?

Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
No doubt I would in a heartbeat, he's a team guy and a true shutdown corner, let Los walk and sign NA. We could play true man to man plus he's only 30, I see Dallas getting him though

Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
His price is going to be sky high, great player though.
|
Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
NA is the type of player that you sign if you are 2-3 pieces away from being a true contender. We just have too many holes to throw that much money at one position.

Yea he will want revis $
|
Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
He's a luxury that we don't need.. We're gonna be plenty aggressive in FA but smart-aggressive I hope. If we re-sign Buchanon and continue to develop Barnes we'll be fine. We can even bring back skillet hands Rogers and we'll be ok.

Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
Until they come up with a CBA that has a salary cap in place, I say absolutely go for him. And buy up just about every high priced guy we possibly can.
Yankees/Red Sox/Phillies of the NFL. |
Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
THAT would make a nice Jersey........Skillet Hands
|
Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
Are you guys assuming there will be a salary cap, is that why you care about the price?
Because otherwise I have a hard time understanding why money would be an issue. |
Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
I could care less about the cost.
I'd say go after him if there is a good chance Rogers will be gone. |
Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
by the time we are ready to compete he will be 33-34. Pass
|
Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
I don't know.. we play a lot of zone.. not sure that would be the best fit.
|
Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
Shutdown corner, I would be all over him like a cheap suit.
|
Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
Remember: Shanahan thinks the world of Nnamdi Asomugha. Says he's the best corner he's ever seen.
I don't know if there will be room for Asomugha and Rogers both under the salary cap, because I don't know the exact cap ramifications of not picking up Hall's contract option. Or if there will be a salary cap. |

A class act out of Cal, Lorenzo should convince him to come to Washington. |
Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
It seems reasonable to assume that there would be some salary parameter in a new CBA which would function as a salary cap.
NA is going to be a very rich man. |

But he's not the quality of player that a team can decide to add later when it's more ready to compete. And if this team isn't planning on being a division champion in 2012, not only should they not go after Asomugha, but they should fire Shanahan immediately. There are far better coaches out there to rebuild under. Shanahan needs to put the team in the playoffs.

Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
In short, if Nnamdi is not a Redskin next year, it's because he did not want to come here. Not because of lack of interest on part of the Redskins.

I ditto that. You need to spread the wealth around to be able to plug as many gaps this offseason as possible, then you have maybe more cap space in 2012 and maybe fix the leaky hull of the SS Redskins. |

Would that factor in getting under the salary cap or would the presumed salary of every player still count against the salary cap? |
Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
He shuts down his side of the field, that makes it easier to play D. I say grab him and throw rocks at Rogers....
|
Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
I feel the price for him is going to be too high. Plus we need to continue to build with younger pieces not middle age FA's. He alone isn't to make the defense that much better. I would love to have him but the time isn't right for a player like him.

Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
He'd be a perfect fit in Houston.

Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.

Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
Rogers is just as old as he is but worse.
|
Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
I say we get him and we can use more man to man coverage. Enough of this zone crap that leaves the middle of the field open all the time. Forget Rogers and have Barnes as our nickel corner. That would be the best secondary in the league. CB-Hall and Asomugha Safties-Landry and Moore. Probaly need to get a outside LB and a DE.

Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
32 teams could use NA
|
Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
Asomugha probably wants to play for a team that's going to be a contender. Not the case here. Why would he come to the Raiders east? I bet the guy just wants to go somewhere where there is NO DRAMA. Baltimore would be the perfect fit. Solid organization/coaching staff and they need corner help.

Probably another conversation for another thread but IMO he's not the guy for the job cause the team needs an overhaul. |

And as of today 100's of threads are being started across fan bases everywhere with fans of respective franchises thinking they should go out and get Nnadmi. |
Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
Did everyone really think that when Shanahan came in that was going to make us a playoff contender? Playoffs are won with quality players not coaches and we are very limited on quality players. Teams are good when they have above average line play and that we do not have!!!!!!! We need to start drafting young players on the both sides of the ball. Meaning defensive and offensive linemen. First we need to get younger!!!

Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
Absent a CBA with a salary cap we should without any doubt target him. A player of his skill doesn't hit the FA market usually.

Ironically enough, they were born 4 days apart lol... July of 1981. I say make a run for him. I'm not sure I want Buchanon all that much. Rogers is a pretty good corner to be honest, he can't catch a cold, but he still covers pretty well. Imagine NA, Rogers and Hall as your top corners, move Barnes to FS and Landry at SS. That's a top notch secondary if Barnes can make the transition. |

Hell, I had a hunch they were born in different years. FYI: Oakland dreamed of someting similar with Hall and Asomugha, but Hall and man-coverage just couldn't make it work. |

Man I have seen this post written on this board like 72 different ways. |

completely agree. we can get alot more for our money... we need bulding blocks. no one player is going to spring us into contention. sure it would be nice to have him for five years, but how much can one corner really do for us. |
Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
If money is no issue, then yes, go get him -- but get Haloti Ngata from the Ravens too.
D-line needs more help than the secondary. |

Re: Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided should Redskins go after him or do you think the price will be too high.
There will be plenty of time for front offices around the league to consider Asomugha.
First off, no team is even permitted to pursue a free agent until the end of the current NFL year, March 5th I think. So no team can even approach Asomugha until that date. Also, the current CBA extenstion EXPIRES in March. If there is not a new CBA in place, then there is a lockout. I also suspect that free agents around the league will abstain from signing any new contracts until a new CBA is in place, since that agreement will most certainly address veteran defintiions and salary caps as well as a rookie wage scale. And those of you dreaming of a league WITHOUT a salary cap? Dream on, that is first and foremost on the owners agendas is that salary cap. Without a salary cap, the owners will proceed with a lockout. So plenty of time for teams to consider Asomugha. Also, can you imagine what the "market price" will be for a DB this year now that both Asomugha and Champ Bailey are Free Agents? Wow. |
