Redskins release Dockery

Not surprising

Always liked Dock, sad to see him go, but he never fit the zone scheme.

Good guard, solid pro, glad he was a Skin for most of his career.

Sad but not unexpected. You can't pay his salary to a backup guard.

Re: Redskins release Dockery

A good question by Chris Russell...

"Chris Russell
Now the big question is who else gets released from #Redskins. Andre Carter is obviously a strong possibility, Casey Rabach?, Who else?"

I would say Carter, he can probably still produce in a 4-3 defense.

No!!! Not Dock, for some reason he always reminds me of Frankenberry, and for that, he will be missed.

Yeah he's got an odd shaped dome, it gets skinny at the temples and then flares out at the top

We seem in the mode of shedding those affiliated with the 2005 team, so probably Rabach.

The guy had 11 sacks in 2009, he was forced into being a 3-4 LB, I don' think age had much to do with it.

Yeah but he looked much slower last season, plus he had 98 on the other side in 09

He could've been, I mean he's no Spring chicken, but the 3-4 was never a fit for him. That's why he left San Fran.

Jeez...we're gonna need four first round draft picks this year.

Re: Redskins release Dockery

Carter was a solid player .. i think he got a bad rap .. obviously in the 4-3 he shined .. and he was a true professional last year and didn't bitch ONE time about being shifted to 3-4

interesting...I never really felt like I saw enough of him on the field and when he was rarely had his name called. I guess they figure he is good depth or maybe more..???

Best of luck to Dock, but no surprises here.

Re: Redskins release Dockery

Dockery was a solid career backup, so really not a huge loss, but it is sort of sad to see another familiar name get cut.

I am already preparing my mind for another subpar year if we do not continue and try to build a better O line. THing is we have too many holes to fill to be truly comptetitive and a coach that hasn't won diddly squat since Elway retired.

Dread-Skin 03-02-2011 11:43 AM

Re: Redskins release Dockery

This team switched to a 3-4 without guys for the scheme but what is the plan without Dockery? We have a lot of holes that need to be filled (thats what she/they said)

I still like to see upgrading at Center and RG/LG/RT. I just dont see us able to address any well known FA's. Is this how a team begins- we have a scheme and devote years to it while trying to find players to fit it? I haven't seen that happen on this team for a long time. But who is going to fill these vacancies?

MTK 03-02-2011 12:24 PM

Re: Redskins release Dockery

Dockery wasn't part of the plans last year once he got benched, so losing him doesn't mean much now.

Mike Williams is coming back, and we've got some younger guys that will have the chance to step up too.

Re: Redskins release Dockery

Rabach is due $3million next season and just had shoulder surgery in January.

With the cut to Dockery, who was slightly more effective than Rabach and had a similar salary, there's hope they we'll make a replacement at Center too.

Yes you can - - so long as you do it before 11:59 on Thursday night.

Of course, you would have to pay them the signing bonus money that would be in their contracts while staring at a work-stoppage in the next 49 hours. Not sure that makes a lot of financial sense...

Oh and if you think that players such as Woody and Harris will sign somewhere for zero in signing bonus money, you probably also believe in the Easter Bunny...

I REALLY hope that we draft this kid Pouncey out of Florida, hand him the job and either let Rabach back him up or move on.
