Re: Skins cut Andre Carter
Loved this guy's attitude, I think AC could go to a 4-3 team and contribute immediately. best wishes
|
Re: Skins cut Andre Carter
Thanks for the toughness AC good dude on/off the field
|
Re: Skins cut Andre Carter
I thought this might happen. He is worthless in the 3-4. No sense in paying the guy to be a backup.
I thought this might happen. He is worthless in the 3-4. No sense in paying the guy to be a backup.
I agree about his 3-4 struggles, but couldn't the FO have tried holding him until the CBA was signed, then traded him for at least a 7th round pick? For that matter, the FO screwed up not trading him last year coming off a 10 sack season when Shanny first announced the switch to a 3-4. Carter's last season in SF was evidence enough that he was a poor fit, but he certainly should have gotten us a draft pick in return last year. FO Fail.

Re: Skins cut Andre Carter
I am so happy we are cutting the fat of this team not that I dont like these guys getting cut but about freaking time...... I wonder what the players on team feel like. I am glad we finally have someone driving the car.
|
Re: Skins cut Andre Carter
I loved having somebody of AC's calibur when it comes to off the field character and on the field work ethic. It's a shame he didn't fit the scheme, but I do wish him well on his journey. Thanks Andre!
|
Re: Skins cut Andre Carter
Carter nor Dockery's release is what you would call a surprise. They both knew it was coming....... good luck to both.
|
Re: Skins cut Andre Carter
Thanks Andre. Great effort and productivity.
|
Re: Skins cut Andre Carter
Dre was a very solid player for us, good guy on and off the field.

Feel the exact same way. Good luck AC! |
Re: Skins cut Andre Carter
Great guy, high character on and off the field... but to be honest, he was just an average, so so player. It looks like the Redskins are finally realizing that they have to get younger, but they have to get better players too.
|
Re: Skins cut Andre Carter
Love AC but it seems change is really coming. Finally.
|
Re: Skins cut Andre Carter
Andre is a great guy and I wish him luck, he's truly one of the good guys in this league. With all that said, he's not a scheme fit for us, and we need 3-4 guys not 4-3 guys. I wish him the best of luck.

No doubt, he won't be looking for work for long. |
Re: Skins cut Andre Carter
Man, we waited to get a DT for our 4-3 and finally AC was effective and not seeing double teams then we switch to a 3-4 and in the end we dont get any value for him at all. Just terrible.
Find another team AC, I know your a hard worker. |
AC was a good guy to have on a football team. Hopefully he's still got some gas in the tank and can get it done somewhere else. Hopefully in the AFC.
Looks like an attempt to get younger and start using the draft. Please god now don't go sign Carson Palmer and TO. |

"Change" is an overused term. A top 10 4-3 defense to a 31st ranked 3-4 defense is "change", but I don't think that's what you wanted.
...but couldn't the FO have tried holding him until the CBA was signed, then traded him for at least a 7th round pick? Carter was a good 4-3 DE, and he should have been traded at peak value last year, instead of being released. Poor judgement by Shanny to switch too early to a 3-4. We've also undermined the trade value of McNabb and Haynesworth. Everyone knows we're trying to get rid of both. |
Re: Skins cut Andre Carter
AC was an above avg. 4-3 DE & a subpar 3-4 OLB. He was good for the skins & played on some good defensive units here. Smart, classy guy too. Wish he could've made the transition.
No turning back now, these 3 cuts the past 2 days make it pretty clear that there's little to no room for sentiment in building this team. |

At some point though, a coach can't act like everything's cool w/a player just so that player looks good to teams that might be interested. |

Re: Skins cut Andre Carter
AC was an undeserving victim of the 3-4 switch. I hope that he lands on a winning 4-3 team.
|
Re: Skins cut Andre Carter
Good guy, good player in the 3-4. Hey, it's tough though, he's older and costs alot of money. It's pretty clear that we going younger. Best of luck to AC.

I hope they can go out and get some guys with experience in the schemes we are putting in place (ZBS, 3-4, etc., etc.). |
Re: Skins cut Andre Carter
I think the meaning of the 3-4 to the redskins is that it will get us to 3-4 wins a year. Or that the skins will be 3-4 from the bottom in defense every year. I think they go hand in hand. Im just being a Nancy, please forgive.

every year every team finds guys that can get it down and are unknown but if we want our 3-4 to work..... VON MILLER |
Re: Skins cut Andre Carter
Von Miller and a real NT and this D will be much different.
|
Re: Skins cut Andre Carter
Jerry Gray and the Titans could be looking at Carter.

Re: Skins cut Andre Carter
Andre Carter is valuable to a team as a leader and as a clubhouse mentor for young players - - some of whom have serious self-destructive tendencies.
He will be missed for those attributes; not every player with "ten years in the league" has them. Good luck to him wherever he catches on... |

Matty: No "inside info" here but I suspect that Von Miller will be long gone when the Skins pick rolls around. |

Re: Skins cut Andre Carter
I'd pick Lindsey Vonn over Vonn Miller, thats why it wouldnt be good for me to be a GM.
|
Re: Skins cut Andre Carter
He could, but Orakpo fell even further to #13 so who knows.
That was incredibly good fortune, especially Buffalo taking Maybin with Orakpo still on the board. If a no brainer like Miller isn't available when we pick, I would be just as happy if we traded down to later in the 1st round and added another 2nd round pick. There are A LOT of holes to fill, especially with a defense running the 3-4 that was built around 4-3 personnel. Offensive line must be a priority also. It will take 2-3 more drafts to undo years of neglecting line depth on both sides of the ball.
|
Re: Skins cut Andre Carter
But, with no draft trades and no FA before the draft, a lot of teams ahead of us could take QBs earlier than usual if they need one...and a lot of teams do. Because of the uncertainty on how and when they can address their needs outside of the draft, teams will be drafting on NEED instead of best player available...the opposite of the norm.
If this is true, we should be hitting both lines hard in this draft...maybe a 3-4 LB, WR and FS too. The players we release between now and the draft could be indications of the holes we're going to fill in the draft (except for Portis, he was a money decision and we have Torain/Williams). I think this draft will be the most unpredictable ever. |

No turning back now, these 3 cuts the past 2 days make it pretty clear that there's little to no room for sentiment in building this team.
I disagree. Ac is a great guy and a great role model for the younger players as everyone agrees. But as a player, he is a bit of a one trick pony. He was a great pass rusher in the 4-3, but he got used in the run game. I used to get frustrated as hell with him even in the 4-3. He is not a great instinctive player, which is why he failed as a 3-4 LB, because 3-4 Lb's have to be good at both run and pass. Just put him on the edge on passing downs. The high sack numbers got him noticed but that is a bit misleading, because the rest of his game was substandard. |
Re: Skins cut Andre Carter
Best of luck to you AC! Class act all around.

Vonn Miller looks good but really small

Re: Skins cut Andre Carter
I think his size won't be too bad due to his instincts and ability

I totally agree. Not only that...but they could have traded Haynesworth, Portis, Rogers too. All had decent value....and we may end up with none of them on the team with zero in return. I would argue we could have gotten at the time Haynesworth - 2nd Carter - 3rd Portis - 3rd Rogers-3rd Imagine if we had those pick this year! or even half of them |
