I was sort of thinking out loud when I mentioned the drug test thing. I just wonder how many welfare/unemployment collectors are being enabled to an extent by their benefits.

I certainly didn't want to make this a thread about people who receive any type of gov't handouts taking drug tests.

that all depends on what is considered "drugs" and i would say probably around 60 to 70% rely on some form of a drug, i know i rely on a few, alcohol being the front runner.

this article is pretty disturbing, but does it surprise me? no. it's just a shame when people like my grandmother are having trouble affording their health care because of the lack of social security which she depends on(even though she works part time). while other people collect unemployment while sitting on their couch surfing the internet "looking" for a job, or taking their wellfare/unemployment checks and going to the mall. it just seems like everyone is looking for the easy way out any more, instead of sacking up and taking care of their own bussiness.

If the government did not steel our SS money to use for everything else SS would not be in any trouble. What the government did with our SS money is no different then what Bernard Madoff did with investors money. Yet the dumb public have no problem with the government misappropriating funds but wanted Madoff to hang.

I went through the avail programs in Md to see if someone I know would qualify. What I found was you can sit on our arse with no job, have kids and you get about 800 every 2 weeks on top of almost free living, food, health care and clothing vouchers. Now you have to live in section 8, go through specific med clinics or hospitals (like JHU).

If you make over 18-21k, you get nothing.

I whole heartedly support drug screening to receive any type of gov't benefits and req people on unemployment to perform community service (like some european countries).

Too many people who have contributed absolutely nothing in the form of taxes or benefit to society eat up the most gov't benefits imo while others who work hard but dont make alot of money get caught in the gray area of not being poor enough to qualify but dont make enough to pay necessary things in life like health ins, etc.

I also 100% support cutting gov't wages and benefits. They have pension plans that are antiquated and comparatively outrageous compared to the priv sector. I have to deal with alot of gov't employees. Ive been a gov't employee. They know they have it cush and generally dont give a dang. If they had their work ethic in the priv sector they would be fired. But since their gov't employees they get credit breaks, health care breaks, guaranteed pension plans and work half as hard as the rest of us.

ps - I have family who live exclusively off the gov't. When we cant wire them money for food or medications it is nice to know that they can go to the hospital and get free meds but something has to change.

Funny your second link talked about all the bank bail outs but I thought Obama said this money was all paid back. Both links also seem to ignore the Taxes created by the products and services of these corporations. You then have the employees hired by these corporations and the taxes they pay. Corporations also buy good that they pay taxes on and their employees support businesses located around the corp. Corps also have to pay taxes on their inventory and other property owned by the corp. Big difference between the two and the links you provide ignore more facts then they show.

So if you draw a social security check does that mean you are getting handouts? What if you draw a SS check and still work in the private sector? Do they count you twice?

No because its my money they forced me to pay or go to jail. If your still working while drawing SS your still actually paying into the system. Why does the left seem to defend SS but they get so pissed off at what Madoff did to investors?

Because the status of your SS investment is open and public and real. Plus SS doesn't deceive investors with promises of crazy returns.

It seems you and others like you need to educate yourself in the difference between social insurance programs, collective investment schemes and ponzi schemes.

Your right because its going broke because they took our money and used it for other stuff that it was not designed to be used for. You need to actually read what SS was set up for and look at it now and you will see the problems. The only reason SS is open and public is because they don't have laws requiring them to actually invest the money or put it away like every single investor is required to do with you money. Why do you see nothing wrong with that and you do realize thats the reason SS is broke.

Let's see ... the government says a worker has to pay into the social security system so that money can be used to pay him a dividend at a later time. Instead, the govenrment puts that money into the general fund, spends it, and takes from somebody else to pay the original worker the benefits he was promised.

Classic definition of a ponzi scheme. If any private citizen came up with a fraud like Social Security, they'd be thrown in jail.

Thats the same thing Madoff did with investors money. You know its one thing to force me to put into the system but at least take my Fu%$ing money and put it into what your taking it for. I'm in the insurance business and the federal government teaches us that its a crime to do what they do with SS money. We have to take continued ed every other year and part of that is repeated fraud education. Its funny because one instructor actual used SS as an example of what illegal to do with investors money.

I would like to see unemployed people given an opportunity to work doing city odd jobs.

For an extra $100 you can get various assigned unskilled jobs.

Go stand behind a truck full of asphalt and fill in pot holes. Shovel snow/mow yards/sweep and clean public buildings. After that you can go paint street curbs. When that is done you can pick up all of the trash along side of roads.

Look at people's skills and fit them into state jobs as "interns"

This way there is more benefit to the community.

You guys have no idea what you're talking about. The government mandates you buy insurance, nothing is mandated in a ponzi scheme except you being utterly stupid and greedy. Unlike what happens to your funds in a ponzi scheme what the government does is invest the surplus of the social security funds into US treasury bonds which is pretty much the safest investment on the ****ing planet.

I suppose by your definition of classic ponzi scheme mutual funds and permanent life insurance are also ponzi schemes. I'm not saying you guys are dumb, but you certainly could get smarter by not peddling this nonsense.
