Re: Redskins Pre-Draft Visits and Private Workouts: 2011 Version
What are you considering a pre-draft visit? They were at Maryland's Pro Day, you counting that?
Add Evan Royster and Ryan Williams too |
What are you considering a pre-draft visit? They were at Maryland's Pro Day, you counting that?
Add Evan Royster and Ryan Williams too
Basically anything that shows above average interest on behalf of the Skins. Pre Draft Visits is more or less just a general term. Though showing up to pro days would fill up this list a little to quickly. Usually in the past I've done it as a combo of the Skins local pro day and guys they've either invited to Ashburn or flown out to see for a private session. |
Re: Redskins Pre-Draft Visits and Private Workouts: 2011 Version
Adding Kendall Hunter.
As the 2011 NFL Draft approaches, the Redskins will be hosting plenty of prospects at their facility in Ashburn in an effort to get to know some of their potential future players. According to Chris Russell, via Hogs Haven, the Redskins had a few late round running backs in recently, as well as an offensive lineman who might interest them with their first round pick. Former VTech #Hokies RB & Manassas, VA native Ryan Williams will visit #Redskins Park for private meeting on April 14 & 15. #Redskins will host USC OT Tyron Smith at #Redskins Park on April 18th. He's a perfect fit in zone. #Redskins have recently 'expressed interest' in RBs Kendall Hunter (OKST) (Rd 2/3) & hell of a pass pro guy & Evan Royster (PSU) (RD 4-7).
Anyone else sensing a pattern here? Also found this video of Evan Royster where someone called him the most patient running back they've ever seen. Around the 2:20 mark. Re: Redskins Pre-Draft Visits and Private Workouts: 2011 Version
Kenrick Ellis, Andy Dalton, Ricky Stanzi
Believe Dalton will be a private workout |

They have Danny Watkins on their list |
Re: Redskins Pre-Draft Visits and Private Workouts: 2011 Version
Alright updated. Also glad to see that they're looking at Watkins. Certainly a great fit for a zone blocking team. Though it looks like he's going to go in the second round and as I said before it seems more and more likely that the team is going after a 3-4 front player and a QB with their first two picks.

Re: Redskins Pre-Draft Visits and Private Workouts: 2011 Version
Isn't Watkins like 29 years old or something?
Anyhow, this may be accurate. But I'm not entirely sure it is. Accurate that Watkins is meeting with the Redskins that is. I say that because we got word last week that Watkins was going to be working out with the Redskins. But it turned out that was an error, and actually whoever sent the initial report out meant to say the Ravens. |
Re: Redskins Pre-Draft Visits and Private Workouts: 2011 Version
Watkins is a great player but think about it, in ten years when all these rookies are 31-32, he'll be 36...I'll pass on him.
I'm glad we're looking at Stanzi, and Kendall Hunter and Evan Royster are great backs who would fit this offense well. Kenrick Ellis is going to be a great 3-4 DE/NT much like a Haloti Ngata. Glad we're looking at good players, whom I think highly of. |

This is a person that was taken 4th overall.......in the CFL draft.....but still! |

Nick Fairley visiting.

Re: Redskins Pre-Draft Visits and Private Workouts: 2011 Version
Surprising to me that we are taking a look at a good number RBs. Thats really encouraging to me, would prefer to bring in a young, mid round talent to split the load with Torrain than spend money on that FA aged RB market. Take that money and spend it on a proven WR and OLinemen IMO. Like it alot.

Re: Redskins Pre-Draft Visits and Private Workouts: 2011 Version
I hear the Skins are very interested in Dirtbag59 out of Warpath University. Want him to play back-up water boy. Apparently he has the skill set required to keep cups and bottles filled. His scouting report says he has a high motor and is able to run out onto the field with those cute little 6 pack racks that hold gatorade bottles. You definitely need to add him to the list.

I haven't seen any site list Stanzi having a visit or workout with our Burgundy and Gold.

They spoke extensively at the senior bowl. Are we not counting that?

From what I've heard of him, I would have to agree. He's another one-year wonder. His stock is falling because of that and perhaps that makes him likely to be available at ten. I imagine he's still regarded a 1st round pick by most teams. |

Guys please...........If Fairley is there at 10 we have to take him. It fills our biggest need. |

But where would he play in our 34 front? |

DE. On a side not, I find it odd that the only projected possible 10 pick we have talked to is Tyron Smith, and he really isn't supposed to go until the mid-late 1st (maybe we are hoping he slips into the early 2nd for a trade up?) |

As much as I also agree that Fairley only had one successful year... it was a damn good one. Did you watch the Title game? Did you watch him dominate LSU and Alabama? Because I sure did and he was as big of a reason as Cam Newton was for those victories. Just because a player has some red flags, doesn't mean he can't be a pro bowler for several years. There's gonna be risks no matter what, and if Nick Fairley is available at #10 and we don't take him... Then "the best player available theory" would mean absolutely nothing. Even though I think when the Redskins drafted Trent Williams, it was clear that management doesn't follow that theory. Luckily for the Redskins, he turned out.. because that had bust written all over it. |

In hindsight, which prospects were rated higher than Trent Williams and why was "bust" written all over him? He was a great talent and at a premium skill position. |

I love Trent, don't get me wrong.... But Russell Okung will be the best Tackle from that draft, he was last year and will continue to trend upwards each and every year. Not only did he show this as a rookie in the NFL.. but he showed it in college allowing only one sack in his draft year at OSU. This athletic stuff is blown out of proportion, Jammal Brown was never athletic. The fourth pick last year should have been Okung, but Trent will suffice. |

I don't see how thats true at all? Okung started 10 games compared to TW's 14. Just because Seattle made the playoffs doesn't mean Okung had a better year if thats what he means. |

If there were stats they would support what I said. Playoffs had absolutely nothing to do with it, Trent wasn't great or anything this year.. let's be realistic about him. I watch a lot of football (we all do), and he really impressed me for Seattle. |

And he's serious about getting better Trent Williams: Offseason training is about improvement, not quieting doubters - Redskins Journal |

I think TW proved he's a better fit for this offense. More athletic and agile. Okung is probably the better pure pass blocker. |

I can partially agree with this. The point I was trying to make is that Russell Okung was the better collegiate football player, the fact that Trent climbed the draft rankings towards the end of the draft season is more because people started to realize this whole "Mike Shanahan wants speed and will take Trent Williams". Not because people thought he would be the better left tackle.. Also worth noting, Trent played right tackle until he became a senior. So again, a lot of question marks about this player. Clearly it's the wrong place to be discussing this argument and rightfully so.. I'll leave it at that. |
Re: Redskins Pre-Draft Visits and Private Workouts: 2011 Version
TW and Okung have a lot of football ahead of them to prove themselves. But I give the nod to TW, because he did a pretty good job against some tough rushers (Ware, Mario Williams, Peppers, Freeney, Clay Matthews, etc., etc.)
