Portis to re-sign with redskins, 3 year, 20 million
 

Just saw this on ESPN this morning. CP will be returning to the redskins when/if the 2011 season begins. He is inked in for a 3 year deal that will pay 20 million.
There is a press conference scheduled for 1PM today, but Portis was on the radio this morning talking about the deal.

A summary of what he said:

Said he was happy to get the call. He said he had no complaints, even though he wanted to test the waters a bit. He said he's glad he gets to finish his career with the Redskins. He promised that he would get the rushing title this season, and also promised that he would show the league he "wasnt no old man" and he "had plenty left". He said he's not talking any jive, but they didnt agree on this contract for him to sit on the bench or "play a few plays". he said he is looking forward to coming back. he said the redskins this year will be "contenders" and not "pretenders". Loves coach Shanahan and cant wait to get back to work. Said a presser is coming at 1 PM.

Thoughts?? I'm personally not happy with the move, but nothing can be done and maybe we can get one more good season out of him, and maybe we make the playoffs.....

Lol. I tried to make his quotes sound as ridiculous as possible while still sounding "official" I mean really, the skins didnt bring him back in real life because he was owed over 8 million next year, and to re-sign him for 3 more years at almost 7 million, lol. And then "Portis" saying he wasnt signed to be a backup or play "a few plays", implying he was the guaranteed starter. Lol again.

I'd just posted b-day wishes for a friend on facebook, so I was already in april fool's mode. Honestly only got my attention for a split second & then I knew it was an april fool joke before I opened it. Well written though. My only critique is; couldn't we have had a janky spanky presser?

I know there are still some die-hards out there who want CP to start for us, but the truth is the truth. Clinton's body has betrayed him, and at 30 years old with his wear and tear, it's like being 65. His mind says he can play still, and he probably has himself convinced that he can be a starter in the NFL. It's hard to take the athlete's mentality out of the athlete. I've mentioned this before, but in my line of work i see it alot with boxers who have fought for too long. They keep themselves in good shape, you watch them workout and every once in a while they show you something that they once were. It's when you see them get in the ring and spar with a kid half their age, that they really look old and gone.

I think Portis will catch on with some team as a live body in camp. Like Larry Johnson. He will look great doing the drills and stuff, but when he hits the field for real action, we will see him for what he is, an aging RB who is in the twilight of his career. Portis has more yesterdays than tomorrows. Much respect to him though, he had a decent career here, and i honestly can say that I wonder what he could have done here if he had been at 100% and the team had a good offensive line. Ever since 2007 he wasnt the same. I know ST's death took the wind out of him some, but he had nagging injuries and the skins were really horrible. Makes me wonder what could have been.
