Draft Pick Nightmare
Which potential 1st round pick do you absolutely not want?
And first round within reason. Meaning players who are reasonably expected to likely be 1st round picks. I'll start. My nightmare pick would be Ryan Mallett. Yes, he's got the arm strength, but that's about it. |
Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
Cam Newton.
Cam Newton.
That's all we needed. Close the thread. lol. |
Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
Hmmmmmm. Personally I can see myself getting on board with any of our potential first round picks. The only one that I think would be a terrible fit would be Fairly as a 3-4 end or God forbid, a Nose tackle. Still most of the people we're looking at bring something to the table.
On the other hand, the top corners Peterson and Prince, while certainly destined to be pro bowl caliber players, would only serve as overkill in our secondary. I feel though that most peoples nightmare pick will be the guy we actually take, Jake Locker. Julio Jones will be a close second. |
Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
I hate to say it but Julio Jones...he is my nightmare pick. I think he is a good player but history is hitting me in the face. Rod Gardner, Westbrook, Desmond Howard picks that involve the skills positions we just don't project very well in our system. I know! I know! We have different people in charge but I am with the crowd and want to think we need to build the heart of the team "in the trenches" is were we need to concentrate to stay good for more than a year or two as the last decade has dictated!
There are players like the two top QB's that I am afraid of taking, but I don't think they will be there when we pick. Best case we trade down....harder than it sounds as we need a partner...and gain a top 100 player pick. Our roster is weak top to bottom...get good talent and start trimming the fat...Albert that is. It looks as our front office realize this. Portis, Albert, McNabb, possible Moss, Macantosh, Rodgers good players we value way to much and are on the line for too much money at this point....Rebuild so my kids can see the Skins win some playoff games!!! Luckily my kids are young! so Skins you have a couple of years to get things right. Don't F*#K it up! |
Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
Mark Ingram would be a really horrendous pick at no. 10.
Probably no one worse than Jake Locker though. Julio Jones is a second round type to me. Not the worst pick in the world at 10...but we need better. Locker it is. Boring choice, but necessary. |
Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
Tough one, Quinn or Locker at 10 I wouldnt like.
|
Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
Newton or Locker. Bowers would not be a "nightmare" but would have me concerned.
|
Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
So for those of you who say Locker. Is the nightmare drafting him or drafting him in the 1st round?
Suppose we took him at #41 overall? Ok with that? |
Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
Bad pick at 41. Better, obviously, than at 10 because it's so easy to draft a QB in the first round next year and have two guys coach likes, but there will almost certainly be better passers available at 41.
If he's the 8th or 9th QB taken, and we end up with him, I retract my criticism. I would rather have Locker than absolutely no one to give playing time to when the season becomes lost, like it did in 2010. |
Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
I would like Newton at 41 if for some reason he free-fell. Newton is a bad pick in the first round (where he's almost certain to get taken), but I could at least see the sunny day scenario where everything goes perfect in Newton's development and he ends up better than a bunch of people I had rated ahead of him.

Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
Any QB currently in the draft.
Julio Jones a close second on that list. |
Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
I'm with Chico, Quinn scares the bejesus out of me. Great player against second tier competition, seems a bit pedestrian against premier tackles. 30gut is starting to sell me on Locker....at 41. What scares me more than anything though is trade back into the 1st rd. The last two; Jansen (hit), Campbell (miss).

They traded up for Jansen but not back into the first round. Guy was 37th overall. |

I stand corrected. The problem with getting old is that your memory has an uncanny ability to re-write history. |

Like I said b4 any QB Shanny want in the second Im good with...there is no quarterback (borderline Gabbert) at 10 value. Our main objective should be trading out and aquiring picks at this point. I think its a nightmare with the talent in this draft to reach. |

Quinn is a substantial risk at 10. No way if A Smith, Prince, or one of the recievers is on the board. |
Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
I dont wont Gabbett!

In my mind's eye he throws and amazing td pass followed by an off-target interception that costs us the game. His boom/bust prospects scare me in any round. |
Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
Cam Newton and it's not even close!
Fairley is my 2nd |
Cam Newton and it's not even close!
Fairley is my 2nd
100% agree. I can't stand anything about Cam Newton and Fairley looks like a complete bust. |
Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
I'd be upset if we took Jones only because I can't trust WRs in the 1st round. I've said it before but I guarantee either Green or Jones will be a bust

Quinn or Newton. I think both have Attitude and Bust written all over them.

I think Fairley in Tennessee is an Epic Win. Everywhere else in the top 10 it's 50-50 so long as we're talking about 4-3 teams. |
Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
Da'Quan Bowers is the Malcolm Kelly of defense.

how bout we trade back for pouncey? personally i see taking anyone at 10 as a nightmare. we need d line and o line more than any other position at this point. if we drop back we can pick up pouncey in the first and hope for a nt or de to fall into the second |
Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
Trading up from #10 or #41.

We can get DL/LB help at 10 We may also be able to drop down/move up/stay where we are in the 2nd and get DT help We need the CBA to be resolved b/c we've got some FA o line moves pending |

Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
The nightmare is not using the top pick in some form or another that allows for us to pick whatever target QB they like the most in this draft.
Draft Jake Locker. This first round class is going to have a freakin huge bust rate anyways. Huge. Let's roll the dice on this guy. If he silences the many critics we can start to compete for championships. On the other hand if someone like Cameron Jordan pans out we get a young Phil Daniels and we can win jack. |

Agree with your point! But I would prefer to draft a DL/OL in that order. Championship caliber teams start with the trenches. Anyone/anything else would be a Nightmare! |

Drafting a guy that obviously that wants to be a Cowboy? No thanks. If we're going to draft a guard I'd prefer the Canuck in the second round. Still I wish free agency could start so we could sign Davin Joesph and then either resign Jammal Brown or sign Ryan Harris. |
Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
Bricklayers vs Gladiators
For a position of need other than QB, I'm looking at Cameron Heyward as being one of those nightmares. He is big (6’5″ and 288 lbs), but he is not fast enough to play defensive end in the NFL (4.98 40-yard dash). Some will suggest moving him to defensive tackle in a 4-3, or defensive end in a 3-4 scheme, but Heyward has not shown the ability to stop the run consistently enough to play in an anchor position. What do you do with a defensive end who is built like a defensive tackle, but weak as a run defender? That's the question NFL scouts and GM's are asking themselves when thinking about drafting the DT from Ohio State. He's like one of those D/lineman without a position, though I'm sure some team will find a way to make good use of him but, not in the early first round. |
Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
Nick Fairley would be bad imo, questionable work ethic, one year wonder yada yada.
|
Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
cam newton
we've seen his type, but longer college careers, fail.. repeatedly |
Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
A.J. Green, him & McNabb would click almost right away, and it may not be possible but Julio Jones as well. I know we Love S.Moss but it's time to move on, make S. Moss a recievers coach. Mo:headbange
|
Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
I think you missed the exercise, MoBass. It's who you don't want. And hopefully AJ Green would click with Grossman, because McNabb won't be here.
|
Re: Draft Pick Nightmare
Yo mobass Welcome to the board But you probably won't last long if you dont read the thread title :)
Btw McNabb wont be our QB |
