Dr. Kevorkian passed away this morning
Assisted suicide advocate Kevorkian dies at age 83 - USATODAY.com
Dr. Jack Kevorkian, the Michigan pathologist who put assisted suicide on the world's medical ethics stage, died early Friday, according to a spokesman with Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. He was 83. Kevorkian died at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan where he had been hospitalized for about two weeks with kidney and heart problems, attorney Mayer Morganroth told the Detroit Free Press. Morganroth said it appears Kevorkian suffered a pulmonary thrombosis when a blood clot from his leg broke free and lodged in his heart. With Kevorkian were his niece Ava Janus and Morganroth. “It was peaceful," Morganroth told the paper. "He didn’t feel a thing." Kevorkian was known as "Dr. Death" because of his time spent as an assisted-suicide advocate.
|
Re: Dr. Kevorkian passed away this morning
i would love to know where he ended up in the after life. IMO it should be heaven, to many people are kept alive that honestly are better off dead.

Re: Dr. Kevorkian passed away this morning
It's ok to put animals down but not humans, who are at least capable of making that decision for themselves. Doesn't make much sense to me.

Correct...there is a big difference between Life and existence. |
Re: Dr. Kevorkian passed away this morning
Alot of people and really pets are kept alive for the living who don't want to deal with the pain of their death. Very sad really.

lol don't open that can of worms |
Re: Dr. Kevorkian passed away this morning
There's no such thing as an afterlife. The only time to judge him was his time while alive on Earth, he's dead and gone now, too late for judgment.

Keep in mind this guy wasn't taking people off artificial life support, he was setting them up to kill themselves by the push of a button. In the case he was convicted for, he administered the lethal injection.
Although Kevorkian claimed to be an advocate for the terminally ill, by the estimation of the investigative reporters at the Detroit Free Press, at least 60% of the people who committed suicide with Kevorkian's help were not terminally ill. Furthermore, the reporters found that:

Kevorkian's counseling was often limited to phone calls and brief meetings that included family members and friends.
There was no psychiatric examination in at least 19 Kevorkian suicides, including several in which friends or family had responded that the patient was despondent over matters other than health.
In at least 17 assisted suicides in which people complained of chronic pain, Kevorkian did not refer the patients to a pain specialist.
Kevorkian's access to medical records varied widely; in some instances, he received only a brief summary of the attending physician's prognosis.
Autopsies of at least three Kevorkian suicides revealed no anatomical evidence of disease.
At least 19 patients died less than 24 hours after meeting Kevorkian for the first time.
Kevorkian was also stripped of his medical license. Here's a portion of the classic version of the Hippocratic Oath translated into English: -I will apply dietic measures for the benefit of the sick according to my ability and judgment; I will keep them from harm and injustice. -I will neither give a deadly drug to anybody if asked for it, nor will I make a suggestion to this effect. In purity and holiness I will guard my life and my art. |

Re: Dr. Kevorkian passed away this morning
Fail to me for bring up heaven and hell, as though I care about either. It was just a whimsically thought on my part. Oh silly me.
|
Re: Dr. Kevorkian passed away this morning
It wasn't Kevorkian's job to make sure people were really terminally ill, etc. He made it possible for people who were in pain and wanted a way out that wasn't traumatic or painful. People that came to him came to him for a single reason. It was their choice.
Instead of soaking up their families hard earned money on something that most likely isn't curable they decide to pass on. I understand that decision. I don't want to spend my life in pain just sitting in a hospital bed all day. Not for me. |

Legal drugs, assisted suicide. You are a loose cannon sir. A loose cannon. Let me say that one more time for dramatic effect. Loose cannon. Whats next not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign? |

You never roll through a stop sign? C'mon now. I'm guessing you don't ever run with scissors either. |

You're a long time veteran here, you should know the playbook by now. One man's whimsical thought is another's knock down/drag out brawl. |

I agree. We treat our dying animals better than we treat our dying relatives. My father died of cancer last August. The final week of his life (not much living going on, but alive nonetheless, I suppose), he was essentially in a drug induced coma, starving to death. What purpose does that serve? |

They'll drug you up to the point where you're not even aware of what's going on, but how about just ending your suffering altogether and get on with the inevitable at that point? Sorry for your loss man. |

I apologize never meant to offend nor do I beleive you don't have a right to your opinion. |
Re: Dr. Kevorkian passed away this morning
This will boost medical tourism to Switzerland where assisted suicide is legal and viewed as compassionate.
RIP Kevorkian. |

I tend to lean to the side that their is no super power but to say to SS33 he is idiot for believing that just makes you look like a bully on the playground trying to pick a fight. What you care what he believes? It is his mind his life he is not treading on you. I honestly don't think you care you are just bored and looking to instigate a fight. |

Re: Dr. Kevorkian passed away this morning
Kevorkian was a little bit before my time, but i know what he did and i dont really pass judgement on it. I only know of two people who Kevorkian had to activate the machine that euthanized them, only because the people were too infirm to do it themselves.
So i guess he did techincally kill two people, but it wasnt the same as murder, in my opinion. He's dead now. We move on. |
