Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
:Flush:
“Then, it got to the point where he said, ‘I don’t want to play first- and second-down nickel. I just want to play third-down nickel.’ Oh my God, you’re relegating yourself to 10-15 snaps a game. Then after that he didn’t want to do the blitzes, he just wanted to rush.” NFL.com news: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth |
Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
I still don't get why the team insists on keeping this guy. Just get rid of him.

Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
I'm usually the one of the fans who claim we need to get what ever we can from him, but since this years FA went to hell in a hand basket and we couldn't pick up a draft pick for him I'm kinda in the mood of just cutting him.
My only other option is to keep making him suffer if we are not paying him a ton of money and let him rot on the bench. Heck he doesn't want to play more then 10-15 plays a game lets just minimize it more and make him water boy. Maybe he can hand out the Gatorade to all the players who actually want to play when then come off the field. Then (my optimism is kicking in) if the team makes the SB or wins it the team can deactivate him so he won't get a ring. |

It's simple. He ****ed with the wrong guy. You don't try to make a power play with Mike Shanahan and walk away a winner. You don't take a $20 million dollar check, then tell the guy to his face that you are going to do whatever he asks and renege on the deal when it comes time for you to perform. He's making an example out of Al, and one I endorse. (up to a particular point) I posted this before, but I think it's worth the repost. Instead of it being a circus, he's just going to suspend fat boy and keep him at home. (paid if he has to) |

If Shanahan doesn't get rid of him, in my opinion it will be a failure from his part to not be able to move on from this circus. I don't get why people are so hell bent on "oh let him rot on the bench" or "oh he f'ed with the wrong guy". WHO THE HELL CARES?! I'm sick and tired of hearing about this guy and the people who insists on keeping him on the team. Mike Shanahan's #1 biggest mistake so far is trading for McNabb. Second biggest mistake? Keeping this circus alive. Nothing positive will come from keeping this mistake on the team. Sh*t, trade him for a 7th rounder or some back up o-lineman. I don't care about this guy and the only news I want to hear is that he has been traded or cut. |
Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
This everything to do with $$$$. He's doing whatever he can to get released (not traded) so he can go after another big payday elsewhere.
Could Haynesworth be headed to the Eagles? "Although Haynesworth's contract is worth $100 million, he's already received $35.6 million of that from the Redskins, and his base salaries the next two years are relatively modest -- $5.4 million in 2011 and $6.7 million in 2012. He's due $28.5 million in 2013, including a $20 million bonus, so whoever takes on his contract -- if anybody does -- is virtually certain to release him after the 2012 season." AH knows he'll never see that 28.5 from the Skins, he's trying to cash another 8-figure check before he's done. He has no desire to play football (in any scheme), he only cares about getting paid. As much as I'd love to bury the POS on the bench, make his life hell, and ruin his career, if he doesn't want to play and only cares about money we still need to pay the guy if he's on the roster. If he goes out and takes a nap in the middle of plays, there isn't much we can do. At this point it's probably best to cut our losses get as much as we can for him in a trade and move on. |
Mike Shanahan was brought here to win and not to discipline fat lazy head cases.
You can't do one without the other. He was brought in to win. That you are right on. That said, you aren't going to win unless you change the culture, and that all starts with overpaid players who refuse to get with the program. (mcnabb included) I think if he's a distraction early on, you suspend him again for 4 games and sit him at home the rest of the year like the Bucs did with Keyshaun. THEN, you wait until the off-season and dump him. |
Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
Slinging Sammy - finally I may have found one person who may believe in my conspiracy theory that AH never intended to play for the skins past 18 months and the only reason he accepted the skins offer (which was less than the bucs) was b/c he and his agent thought they could collect 38 mil for 18 months, get traded to a new team where his skins front loaded contract gets ripped up and he gets a more traditional big time contract that pays him as he he plays.
No way in hell AH was going to play for 5-6 mil per season in his prime after he got the landfall 38 mil. It would take a person with integrity to say "you know what, you paid me twice as much as I should have made for the first 2 years of the contract so Im going to play for half of what I should be making for the next 2 years". |

I'm almost willing to guarantee that nobody will even pay him those types of figures after this point. Not after his act here in DC. I think the next contract he gets is going to be heavily incentive laden. |

Well Mike Shanahan brought McNabb, which ironically this move was similar to what the old regime used to do. For Mike Shanahan to win, he needs to get rid of players that aren't up to par, bring new players that get with his plan, and win. Keeping Haynesworth as a distraction is not part of it. All that would tell me is that MS takes things personally and he lets his ego dictate his actions. And Haynesworth will be a distraction, Kevin Sheehan alone will make sure that it is. |
Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
Interesting that NFL.com is coming out with this article now. I could have sworn I heard the 10-15 snaps quote as early as the later part of the season.

Or, as you mentioned, get a 1 yr. incentive deal, play well and get another fat payday next off-season.

He needs to show everyone, in exponential terms, that he runs the show and no BS will be tolerated. To do that, you need to make some examples of problem players to set the tone for the greater good (rest of the team) before you have a winning culture. |
Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
Haslett needs a gag order.
Any trade value Stainsworth had is eroding quickly. |
Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
Haslett said towards the end of the season, I think when he was suspended, that AH said he just wanted to play nickel & rush. The only thing knew to me was that he mentioned how disrespectful AH is of the rules in meetings.
I don't think at this point that they could do anything to change the obvious perception of AH, I mean they already suspended him. It's kind of a balancing act for the team w/the media, they don't want to talk too much if they can keep all problems in-house, but we're long past that. They need to some degree to back up their actions publicly & let fans et al know why they've taken the course they have. |

Or just get rid of them by releasing them or trading them, which is what Bill Belichick did this past off season with Richard Seymour (not really a problem, but obviously the team didn't want him there), Randy Moss (didn't want to be with the team, so he was released), and Adalius Thomas (problem child that would not get with the plan, released before the draft). Meanwhile, you are asking the team to be like the Bengals, a team whose owner insists on keeping malcontents on the team. |
I still don't get why the team insists on keeping this guy. Just get rid of him.
Easier said than done. Snyder is not going to let this joke of a person walk away and sign with another team after paying him almost 40 mil for a handful of games played. As much as I wish he'd go away I kind of side with the Redskins on this. |

The Pats don't get taken on trades, they do the taking. So far I'm not sure anyone out ther is offering us a high draft pick for Train Wreck. |
Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
I would trade him at the first opportunity, for whatever we can get. Even if it's a 7th round pick, ship him outta here. Hopefully to an NFL wasteland like Buffalo.
|
Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
What's the effect on us if one of his various legal problems (and the no doubt future ones to befall him) lands him in jail? Hard to imagine he can continue on his current path and not meet that fate in the next few years. Maybe we should send him out clubbing with Plax.

wouldn't do it. they have to get at least a 3rd rounder. if they can't get fair market value then keep him here and let him rot on the bench. i'm in total favor of making an example of him. |
Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
I don't think another year of his distractions would be a good thing for the team, you could see guys were sick of hearing/talking about him last year. No sense in cutting off your nose to spite your face. It's best to move on.

Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
albert haynesworth: one of the greatest con-men in NFL history.
|
Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
The problem with letting him rot on the bench, is that it potentially takes up a roster spot for someone else we need. Given the choice between having Albert Haynesworth sit on the roster all year doing nothing and having Chris Neild make the football team, I'll take the latter, just for example.

But they straight up cut Adalius Thomas, who was the true problem child of that bunch. The point is that Belichick doesn't keep malcontents around. Heck, Chucky got rid of Keyshawn Johnson after he was suspended (similar to the Haynesworth suspension). |

You already paid him. Don’t give him the opportunity to go some where else and get this grand revelation that he wants to be a team player, so he can get paid again.
He doesn't have to do anything else, he's going to get suspended by the league when it resumes. Beating up a motorist, and now the sexual assault allegations (compounded with his prior past) is going to lead to a suspension. I'd bet good money on it. |
Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
We definitely don't need to spend another entire season talking about Albert Haynesworth. That's exactly what will happen if he's anywhere around to be talked about. Time to move ahead.

The difference is Thomas was not paid the type of money that AH is getting, nor was he this big of a distraction. Also KeyShawn at least was a productive player for TB. So far we've basically got nothing out of AH. If AH is going to disrespect the team that paid him millions then he shouldn't be allowed to be a free agent. Sit and rot. |
Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
My only concern with "just cut him" is that I don't want him going to hte NFC East. Maybe he stays a POS, maybe he becomes a monster against us.
Ship him out for a 7th to Buffalo or Cincinatti, even if it's a 7th rounder in 2018. |

Last time they got to the Super Bowl came in large part due to their defense, which allowed 16 points a game during the 04-05 playoffs. Bunkley, Patterson, Haynesworth, and Laws paired with Cole on the edge would give them a heck of a rotation. |
Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
You all realize that the Skins are going to suck donkey whenever football resumes. Don't you?
I say keep the mega douche bag and make him suffer. We don't need to worry about the last roster spot anyways and we can officially put all kinds of fear into any free agents that are thinking about taking the money and running. Let him rot until he comes to the realization that he can't get what he wants and begs to get out no matter what our terms. |
Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
Yeah make him suffer by paying him to sit on the bench and do nothing.
I'm sure if you were to ask Phillip Daniel or London Fletcher, they would ask for this guy to be shipped out of DC ASAP. |

Eventually the POS will start to consider his legacy. When he realizes that he has to get out of DC ASAP the Redskins have a much bigger say with regards to the terms. This could help the team in a big way. London Fletcher and Phillip freakin Daniels opinions have no bearing on the decision. Haynesworth either works hard or he is punished. It's more than fair. It's a very important lesson and Fletcher and Daniels are in no position to lead this team to glory anyways so who cares what they think. Let's be reality. |

Fletcher n rak should just jump this fool!
Lol but nah, get w.EVER we can, wen we can get it. I'm the words of sir Paul McCartney - "we're so sorry.... uncle Albert -- but u haven't done a bloody thing all day!".... more like 2 yrs! Be gone waste. Sent from a ......... Droid! Boom! That just happened. |

I think this article came out after Haslett did a radio interview. Sure, he repeated some stuff he'd said earlier, but it was a recent interview. |
Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
I see another suspension or disciplinary action coming before a release. They have established & documented a history of insubordination w/him, so it will be that much quicker for them to suspend him if he does the same again. Have to think if camp ever opens that he just won't report. Then the skins will have the leverage of fines while his agent tries to find a place for him.
I don't see this dragging out a long time, but I also don't see the Skins just releasing him. |
