Specific language on the scale still needs to be sorted out, as with other things like pensions, health care Still a lot of work to be done but it's not out of the realm of possibility that a handshake deal is done tomorrow. Probably not until early next week more likely though |

Re: Report: Rookie Wage Scale Agreed To
No more $50 million guaranteed before playing a down.

Still have to negotiate things such as workman's compensation, extra right-of-first-refusals on this year's free agent class, settlement on the television damages and the antitrust lawsuit and issues relating to commercial sponsorships. |

I sure hope so. I'm watching the "top 10 uniforms" on NFLN right now. I'm desperate for some real football news. :( |
Re: Report: Rookie Wage Scale Agreed To
Looks like they agreed to a salary cap as well:

Let's get this done
|
Re: Report: Rookie Wage Scale Agreed To
Alright, FINALLY. I'm just SHOCKED that this deal got done just in time so no money is lost on the preseason games... but whatever. I'm so excited for football to be back, free agency is going to be insane across the league... can't wait to get going!

Re: Report: Rookie Wage Scale Agreed To
120m doesnt seem like enough to do much of anything.

There's a difference in that cap spending must be cash. No more of dead money counting towards the cap. This adjusts the cap up in real terms. |

Wow then we have a ton to spend, since we've got like 30 million in dead cap already. |
Re: Report: Rookie Wage Scale Agreed To
And...Clayton had these exact numbers pegged three weeks ago. Glad the NFL pushed hard against a brick wall for two weeks.
There's a difference in that cap spending must be cash. No more of dead money counting towards the cap. This adjusts the cap up in real terms.
I'd be shocked if dead money didn't coun't as cap room as that would pretty much kill players on non-guaranteed contracts. My guess is that the cash requirement is just separate from the cap requirement, which is to say: every team gets to be the 2006 Redskins now.
So sounds like we only have ten mil of cap space, but total value of (guaranteed?) contract dollars will have to ballpark $40 million. That will not be hard. |
Re: Report: Rookie Wage Scale Agreed To
Just read Claytons July 8 article you're probably referring to, along with tonight's article and neither give the impression that dead cap money is not included in the 120MM cap. I highly doubt any if the 7 teams clayton mentioned as being in trouble with a 120MM cap would be over if we took out "dead cap."
|
Re: Report: Rookie Wage Scale Agreed To
I'm also enjoying the excitement over our impending spending spree: because we've been so great at that in the past.
Money is going to be flying around in a couple of weeks. The key may be to spend it without really spending it. |
Re: Report: Rookie Wage Scale Agreed To
Ya see, this is going to fuxxor our reputation even more even though we may genuinely need to sign a lot of FA's to fill our roster.
Grossman McIntosh Rogers Moss etc etc If they leave then we have to sign FA's or start scrubs. Not much of a choice. |
Re: Report: Rookie Wage Scale Agreed To
We shouldn't be afraid of signing free agents...if were ever going to be good again not all the players will come through the draft. It's just about spending wisely. I'm all about putting money into the offensive line..I would like us to resign Moss OR we can make a play for HOlmes...with our young receivers and the fact that this is probably a rebuilding year I don't want to push guys like Armstrong down the depth chart if we can spend money elsewhere...

Below is an article that mentions the cash requirement, although it seems to apply only to the 90% salary floor: Jeff Pash said owners have offered 90-percent cash guarantee | National Football Post |
Re: Report: Rookie Wage Scale Agreed To
According to sources, the terms agreed to on the rookie wage system are, in part, as follows:
• Five-year contracts, with a team option for the fifth year. • If the team option is exercised, in the fifth year the top 10 picks would receive a salary equal to the average of the top 10 player salaries at their respective positions. That money would be guaranteed if the option is exercised after the third year of the contract. • If the team option is exercised, in the fifth year picks 11-32 would receive a salary equal to the average of the Nos. 3-25 salaries at their respective positions. That money would be guaranteed if the option is exercised after the third year of the contract. ^ So this doesnt really seem like a scale to me, mroe like a franchise type tag for rookies in year 5? Is all other guaranteed money now gone? Is there a actual scale that says how much each rookie is going to get based off where they were drafted, before they were drafted? |
Re: Report: Rookie Wage Scale Agreed To
I really hope they have an agreement in principle today, I think it'd be huge.
|
Re: Report: Rookie Wage Scale Agreed To
That would be my faviort scenario.

Yeah, I don't know how that would work out. We need details. |

Looks like there will be no workouts before May 1. Less money for the players but more free time

Good for the players. All the offseason work had gotten a little out of control. |
Re: Report: Rookie Wage Scale Agreed To
Whatever happened to the 18 game talk, is that shelved indefinitely?
