2011 NFL Free Agency Thread
We've got the Redskins FA thread
http://www.thewarpath.net/redskins-locker-room/42856-2011-redskins-free-agent-rumors-reports.html Thought we could start a fresh one on overall NFL free agency (I locked the previous one as it was getting pretty long) Latest reports are that free agency is expected to start Monday July 25. Now I've mentioned before here (at least I think I have) that teams will have 3 days to sign their own guys before they go out on the market. So I'm not sure if July 25 is after that or if that's the start of the 3 day window |
Re: 2011 NFL Free Agency Thread
Still nine more days?
!&!#!$#@!!!%&#@ |
Re: 2011 NFL Free Agency Thread
Well, it could technically "officially" end today, but real action probably wouldn't start for another week
|
Re: 2011 NFL Free Agency Thread
If I were a GM, I would have hired private detectives to check up on the physical conditioning of potential free agents and to check and see what their daily routines are like starting about 1 July.
What I would not want to do is to sign free agents who show up for a shortened training camp needing a couple of weeks to get into sufficient physical condition to prepare for the season. I know players have had self-directed workout sessions. I would want to know what those free agents have been doing to come to work in top shape in addition to those kinds of workouts. |

Isn't Talib facing a pretty serious weapons charge? I'd be surprised if he's not suspended for a while. He's a bad apple. |

I heard his trial isn't until late 2011, and as far as I know he hasn't been in alot of Big trouble so I'd be shocked if he was suspended.. Pac Man has been arrested 15 times since his rookie year for an example |

This is funny in the Dallas section they already are referring to Cullen Jenkins as a Washington Redskin |
Re: 2011 NFL Free Agency Thread
Josh Wilson from the Ravens is another guy we should give a look at CB.

Lack of conditioning will contribute to an assortment of injuries. Too much work has to be done in a short period of time to expect business as usual. |

Re: 2011 NFL Free Agency Thread
I kind of like that there will be such a tight window from FA signings to preseason to regular season. Its better than signing someone March 1 and waiting until early August for them to actually play.

I am......really looking forward to the compressed signing period and the ensuing frenzy. It should be like a second draft.....more or less. |

I agree but I think it will be hard on the players. They'll potentially be moving, finding new schools for kids, etc., while also starting training camp. Then they'll play their first game with guys that they met only a couple of weeks before. However, such is the nature of the beast this year. |

Players? Bah! Bunch of multi-millionaires playing a game. Who cares about their feelings? Seriously though, I'm certainly sympathetic to their plight. But as a fan of the sport, with no real regard for the people playing, I'm thrilled about the shortened off-season |
Re: 2011 NFL Free Agency Thread
Knowing their lifestyle and income I can only be somewhat sympathetic.
No one is forcing them to take that job, its what they want to do. |
Re: 2011 NFL Free Agency Thread
Free agency flowing directly into camps is pretty cool. Now we don't have three months of wondering how new players fit into the system, we get to see them right away.
One thought is about preseason games this year, will we see regulars playing longer since they need reps or less to protect the investments? |

Preseason is about talent evaluation at its purest. You see the players one on one without the benefit of scheme to hide flaws. Watching preseason can give you a glimpse into the future. |

I have no idea how the coaches will handle them but I am a bit concerned about how little time the Redskins coaches wil have to make player evaluations and integrate new players into the team. I'm guessing that the veterans may need more reps in preseason, any FA starters we add will certainly need the reps, and, at the moment, we have twelve rookies and will probably add some more. I'm wondering how much chance the rookies are going to have to show enough in preseason games to make the team. I dunno, maybe it's not an issue for the coaches. They might handle the preseason the way they always have and let the chips fall where they may. |

In the past they were more important for evaluating your backups and bubble guys. Now they're going to be more focused on getting your starters tuned up and ready to play. |

Re: 2011 NFL Free Agency Thread
Any predictions on where Reggie Bush would end up?
Reports are that the Dolphins are interested, but I think he'd be dangerous if he teamed up with Peyton Manning on the Colts. They're probably losing Addai so they could use another RB and could line him up all over the field as a RB, slot WR, etc. If he wants to make a big impact, I think he should go there. Manning has Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark already...and Harrison was consistently reliable before them, but he's never had a player that explosive to give the ball to. It could be fun to watch. |
Re: 2011 NFL Free Agency Thread
From what i hear Dolphins are the only major takers of Bush. May make Henne better with having one of the best third down receivers (Devone Bess) and Bush plus Marshall again. Also may prevent Daniel Thomas from being severely over worked.

I doubt they would pony up anything to draft someone like Bush. I think there will be plenty of FA RBs for them to acquire to replace Addai. |

Any predictions on the QBs? Here's mine based on matching a player to a system or scheme: Hasselbeck (WCO) to the Bengals Jay Gruden (WCO) Derek Anderson (best/only good season under Chudz) to the Panthers Chudz gets a mentor w/ scheme knowledge for Newton Tarvaris Jackson (WCO) to the Seattle w/ his OC from the Vikes Bevell McNabb (WCO/Mike Shanahan WCO) to the Titans Chris Palmer is keeping 50% of the old playbook ran by Heimendinger who coached under Mike Shanahan Jimmy Clausen(Erhardt Perkins) to the Cardinals (Wisenhunt Erhardt-Perkins) Kyle Orton(Erhardt Perkins) to the Vikings Bill Musgrave (Erhardt Perkins) Kolb stays in Philly |

I think McNabb goes to Seattle, the vikes old OFC is there now and will probably be running the same system.
Jimmy Clausen(Erhardt Perkins) to the Cardinals (Wisenhunt Erhardt-Perkins)
Claussen will be staying in Carolina. He'll be starting the season for them. Cam Newton has had no training camp is isn't going to be ready in Week 1. We may not see him for a month or half the season. I predict around Week 5-6, Newton will take over. |
