Redskins sign WR Donte’ Stallworth to a 1 year deal

Didn't see this coming |
Re: Redskins sign WR Donte’ Stallworth to a 1 year deal
Wow. Talk about out of left field. I wonder if this means they gave up on Edwards and Holmes?
|
Re: Redskins sign WR Donte’ Stallworth to a 1 year deal
I think the Jets are pretty serious about keeping Holmes.
Not sure if this move means a whole lot though. Could just be a low risk/high reward type of move. No guarantee to even make the team. |
Re: Redskins sign WR Donte’ Stallworth to a 1 year deal
Well that must mean Holmes and Edwards are gone.. Dang
|
Re: Redskins sign WR Donte’ Stallworth to a 1 year deal
uggghhhh why do we sign old aging vets at positions that aren't our biggest needs
|
Re: Redskins sign WR Donte’ Stallworth to a 1 year deal
I think Edwards is still a possibility
|
Re: Redskins sign WR Donte’ Stallworth to a 1 year deal
Strange. Like Matty said- he may not even make the team.
|
Re: Redskins sign WR Donte’ Stallworth to a 1 year deal
We need to have 90 players, competition is a beautiful thing.
|
Re: Redskins sign WR Donte’ Stallworth to a 1 year deal
he's only 30

Re: Redskins sign WR Donte’ Stallworth to a 1 year deal
I like it, the more talent the better folks.. Go get Edwards for a good price then focus on OLINE and Jenkins.. Grab a CB and we will be ok
|
Re: Redskins sign WR Donte’ Stallworth to a 1 year deal
The Vinny era Skins fan in me is like: boo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But the Allen Skins fan in me is like this make sense. Low risk/high reward. |
Re: Redskins sign WR Donte’ Stallworth to a 1 year deal
I don't like this signing. Why did we spend so many draft picks on WRs if we were going to fill the roster with veterans. Unless we plan on keeping 8 WR there are going to be a lot of young WRs getting cut without ever getting a chance.

I agree with ya ..... But I'm worried that we are too laid back in signing bigger names. Jenkins is talking to the cowboys which would really piss me off if we miss out on him. Im not sure I like their approach.....wtf. Let's atleast start cutting guys. GIVE ME SOMETHING. ..... |
Re: Redskins sign WR Donte’ Stallworth to a 1 year deal
I totally called this
http://www.thewarpath.net/redskins-locker-room/22378-official-donte-stallworth-pure-speculation-thread-2.html#post417502 Seriously though, didn't see this one coming from a mile away. Didn't even realize he was available. I thought it was Houshmanzadeh that was available from the Ravens. But this makes sense for Stallworth as far as proximity for his family, and makes total sense for the Redskins. They get a veteran, low risk, low cost WR. Much better than breaking the bank on a Holmes. We all want Austin, Hankerson, etc. to step it up but thanks to the lockout they're behind the curve so we need to temper the expectations this year. I like this move...but I also liked the Roydell Williams move |
Re: Redskins sign WR Donte’ Stallworth to a 1 year deal
any news on Edwards SS?

...let me guess you were in favor of signing Moss though even though he's 2 years older? |
Re: Redskins sign WR Donte’ Stallworth to a 1 year deal
Holmes still on our radar
|
Re: Redskins sign WR Donte’ Stallworth to a 1 year deal
Its almost like having two Santana type players on the team..... Ehhhh , better than Galloway I guess
|

yes, he knows our system and is more respectable. Just as fast, and better hands. |

Where are you hearing this. ? I'm hearing Jets are basically locking him up today. I want Holmes but can't see the jets letting him go. Rex loves him. |
Re: Redskins sign WR Donte’ Stallworth to a 1 year deal
Well it's not like Hankerson, Paul, Robinson, Austin and Banks won't get a shot to show what they have in training camp and in preseason. Shanahan will give them a look and see what they've got; if they don't look promising then practice squad or peace out. Or if they beat out Stallworth, even better.
Stallworth has speed and lots of it. You can't hate that. |

Keeping Stallworth is going to make us give up on someone prematurely. Everyone other then Hankerson & Moss could be out on the street from this signing. Hopefully we win some games along the way...but this is a rebuild and i don't like keeping 30 yr olds over 23 year olds unless the 30 year old is great and Stallworth has never been in that category. |
any news on Edwards SS?
I don't understand why you're so keen on Braylon Edwards. Trust me, if we sign him, the more excited you may be about having him on the team the more you are going to hate him when he starts dropping sure touchdown passes. Do you remember former Redskins WR Rod "50/50" Gardner? He drove fans insane with all of his drops. Personally, I can't stand dropped passes, so I don't want Braylon "50/50" Edwards. |
Re: Redskins sign WR Donte’ Stallworth to a 1 year deal
I dont like having him on the roster at all. Lets not forget that he killed someone with his drunk driving and spent only 30 days in jail for it. Not that that effects his ability to catch a pass but I still dont like it.

Re: Redskins sign WR Donte’ Stallworth to a 1 year deal
Keep in mind Stallworth didn't play in 2009 because of the whole DUI thing, and last year he played in 8 games and had only 2 catches.
In 2008 he played in 11 games for the Browns and had only 10 catches. So not only is it possible he won't make the team, I think it's quite probable he won't make the team. |

I would expect to see a few WRs on the practice squad. |

Well we can have 90 players in camp so that's more than usual, and it probably means we give up on someone like Roydell...or maybe Malcolm Kelly...or maybe someone like Banks or Robinson goes on the PS. Either way, i think this is less "damaging" than say bringing in Rice, Holmes, or Edwards (who incidentally is getting a bad rap in my opinion, re: drops) |

in fact last year Reggie Wayne and Miles Austin had more dropped passes
|
Re: Redskins sign WR Donte’ Stallworth to a 1 year deal
The roster needs to be at 90 for camp, guys. Signing Stallworth doesn't mean we're out of the running for other free agents (he's on a one year, low cost deal, which screams "camp body" to me), nor does it mean the rookies don't get their chance. It means we need 90 bodies for camp, and Mike doesn't mind giving vets a shot to make the team...but even with that, I don't think he'll make it.
It's a one year deal for what is essentially pennies and Stallworth is a veteran in a season where they're trusting A LOT of rookies to come in and compete. Let's not panic, here. |

I respectfully disagree. Stallworth has played 2 seasons in his last 3 years. With the browns (before he took his year off) he played 11 games, and started 7 yet only amassed 170 yards and 1 td. Last year with the Ravens (after his year off), he played in 8 games, started 0, and had 2 catches for 82 yards and one of them he fumbled. I'm not expecting much out of him considering he's shown nothing for 3 years straight. Hopefully he'll be a nice surprise though (him and malcolm kelly). edit: I don't think signing stallworth is going to impact us signing or not signing any other wr FAs. |

Re: Redskins sign WR Donte’ Stallworth to a 1 year deal
just updating all the WR threads:
no Holmes to Skins: AdamSchefter Adam Schefter Filed to ESPN: WR Santonio Holmes reaches agreement with Jets on a five year deal. 28 seconds ago |
Re: Redskins sign WR Donte’ Stallworth to a 1 year deal
Not sure why everyone is so worried about our WR's because I'm not sold on any of our QB's capable of getting them the ball or a O line that can give a QB the time to throw the ball.

Probably because they had more targets? |
Re: Redskins sign WR Donte’ Stallworth to a 1 year deal
Hey why not.
Besides Santana & an unproven Rookie in Hankerson we really had nobody. |
