Redskins Receivers Rotation
Tried to make the title alliterative per JoeRedskin's request.
With three WRs added in one day, figured it might make sense (again per JR's request) to have one thred dedicated to all of them. This is certainly one of the more bizarre days I can remember for Redskins moves. I also don't think Stokley will even make the final roster and probably doesn't merit his own move. Anyhow, let's discuss the WR situation here |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Reminds me of last years RB situation. Bring in a bunch of knowns/unknowns and let them compete in training camp. I like it.

Maybe we're stockpiling mediocrity with the hope that we can build all these guys into one giant, super good receiver? :) |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Reminds me when Vinny drafted 3 pass catchers in the 2nd round.

Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
I think it will be:
Moss Armstrong Austin Stallworth Gaffney Hankerson PS Robinson Gone Paul (he may come back later to the PS) Kelly Stokley Banks |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
i heard we signed todd heap,,,,we need more TE's to add to the WR corp.
jooooke |

Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
It's simple. KS realized that McNabb was right and no qb should wear a wrist band. So every down we will send in a full set of QB/WR's so that they all know the play ahead of time.

Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Good point by Matt Bowen:
"Matt Bowen Understand that Shanahan wants to create competition for jobs in camp, but #Redskins bringing in older talent at WR isn't a solution." |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
I predict by week 8 the following rotation:
Braylon Edwards Leonard Hankerson Santana Moss Anthony Armstrong Gaffney/Paul Everyone else is released |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
What the heck are they smoking over at Redskins Park today?

If I remember correctly they gave Austin a look as a return man last year. I still think we may end up signing one of the other receivers out there like a Breaston or Jones. But man, Stokley, Gaffney, Stallworth all on the same day? Bizarre indeed. At the end of the day, I'm more excited for Hankerson than anyone else. |

Eh, who needs competition among the offensive line...

Vinny Weeeeeeeeeeeeed!!!! Actually, if this were true, we would have traded our 1st and 2nd rounders for Kolb. |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Ok so the key detail is one year deals. Have of them will be gone. No big deal

Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
I think people think, erroneously, that we're making moves to acquire WRs instead of other moves. Like we're sitting there saying well we can either sign Stokley and Stallworth or we can re-sign Jammal Brown and get Cullen Jenkins. It's not like that at all. The more complex moves are still in play, but while those are being worked out shorter, simpler moves are made.
That said, the move to get Stokley I don't think was necessary |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Redskins took a non-existent issue: the lack of competition among-st wide receivers, added a dose of veteran and shot it in the face four times today.
|
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Hey at this point we might as well sign Derrick Mason.

[YT]XbSZRFBi9Mg[/YT]
Offensive line? What's that? I've never heard of that football position before. Did you mean to say tight end or wide receiver? |
Hey at this point we might as well sign Derrick Mason.
Would be the best player we've added this week, sadly. No, not including Cofield in that.

Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
I like the moves of bringing in some guys to compete for playing time. We will see what Austin and Kelly are made of by bringing in the vets to compete for playing time. Stallworth , if healthy , can bring another down field threat to the team ala philly with Desean and Maclin. Stokely is one of those guys that can produce, again if healthy. I am hoping Kelly really steps up this year and plays because he has the size and ability to be a really good reciever. We could have a very good corp of recievers if Moss, Stallworth, Armstrong, Kelly, Austin, and Stokely are all healthy.

No big deal at all. Still funny, though. The bummer to me is parting ways with Jarmon. Granted that was a Vinny move, but he was a 3rd round draft choice just a few years ago (supplemental, but a 3rd round pick nonetheless). |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
This reminds me of a time I saw a highlight of a weird formation done by the Packers. There were only three linemen, with Sterling Sharpe as the QB, and the rest of the players were lined up as WRs. Unfortunately I can't find a picture or footage of it.

Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Well, if it makes us feel any better, they did this last year too.
And decided to keep AND START Joey Galloway. |

Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
If someone were to tell me that Keenan McCardell is coming out of retirement to play with the Redskins, I would probably believe it.
|
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
It dosn't even matter if Stokley makes the team...to me every rep he gets in camp is one less rep for Armstrong, Austin, Hankerson, Robinson, Paul, Kelly or even Banks. I know they need bodies but I don't get this at all. I still trust that Shanny & bruce know what they are doing...I just wish I did to.

Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
From Chris Russell:
A #Redskins official when I asked if they were going to sign any more WR's "Maybe a few more. We're going to run 7 WR sets." Joking, I think |

Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
I have a guess right now:
Moss Kelly Armstrong Gaffney Hankerson Banks Robinson Which means no... Niles Paul Donte Stallworth Terrence Austin Brandon Stokley And just two QBs on the roster. |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
My problem, if we have a plan, why waste draft pics on wide recievers if we are going to go out and sign guys like we have today to take their roster spots?
|
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
I have a theory on what is going on.
The NFL moved up the time that teams are allowed to sign undrafted free agents with no notice. This caught a lot of teams by surprise. If you notice some teams have 20 plus UFAs signed and others have like two or three (us). One NFC GM said he even had gone home for the evening in order to get an early start on a busy next day (may have been Allen - they didn't say). The plot thickens - according to the new CBA teams now are required to bring 90 players to camp! That is way up from last year. To make a long story short, I think the teams that got caught napping on the UFAs are going to be in need of bodies to fill out there camp. So we figured why not bring in several players and let them compete. I do not look at this as an overhaul of the wr position. Just a free for all to see who sticks. The fact we traded for Gafney gives him the leg up (albeit for a player we were going to probably cut anyway) but I think we keep either him or Stallworth and stick with the youngsters. I really hope we don't get rid of Banks! He gives us a dimension that we haven't had since B Mitchel. |

backup, just because we drafted some wr's doesn't mean we have wr's on our team. wr is a hard position to draft and we are in need of a few good wr's, let these guys have a shot and if all the rookies suck ass we have a few guys that can catch some balls. i'm with gm though i just can't wait to see what hankerson can do, especially with the guidence of santana, i think hankerson has the potential to be a game changer. |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Opening day roster will probably have:
Moss Armstrong Kelly Stallworth Hankerson Paul PS Austin Robinson The rest cut. |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Edwards is saying he doesnt feel wanted by the Jets.
This WR spree isnt over yet. |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Kelly could be our Wildcard
