How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
I'll say he starts 13 games, finishes 12.
|
Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
I think he makes it the season. He'll have three catastrophic games - but not in a row - and Shanahan will simply keep plugging him in.
Beck only plays (starts) if we have a losing record by midseason and 3 of the losses are directly attributable to Rexy. If Rex makes it to midseason, I think he is in for the long haul. |
Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
Beck only starts barring a Rex Grossman injury. I think Rex is going to play solid this year with the talent around him. I as re-watching last year games and preseason this year, and he has a hard on for S. Moss. He always knows where Moss is at and they have a connection.
S. Moss might have a pro bowl year |
Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
Wrecks makes it through most of the season until Shanny just can't take it any more. Beck starts in December.
|
Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
Barring injury Rex is the guy for this season.
I could see Beck playing if the team is tanking, but that's it. Rex will stay solid enough to hold the job. |
Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
I put my vote for 11-16, but I think it'll be closer to 11 than it will be to 16. I think he'll play 3 quarters of the season, and then if we drop out of playoff contention Shanny will see what Beck has. And in the event we stay in playoff contention the whole season with Rex at quarterback, then the games he'll miss will be because of injury (Somewhere between 1-3).

Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
I think Beck leads this team into a WC game due to Rex being benched in early Dec

Shanny didnt name Rex starter to pull him after week 3 because it would make Shanny look like he made a mistake picking Rex and Shanny doesnt want that. Rex will have to tank really bad to be pulled. |
Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
I don't know.

I think he has a good 5-8 window to bench himself. |
I think he goes the season. We should be pushing for a playoff spot even with a difficult last 5 games. Jets, pats, giants, Vikings, and eagles.

Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
RG aka the "R"ight "G"uy plays the whole season (supporting who our FO picked to be QB).
|
Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
I think alot of people not counting on the fact that Rex can bench himself pretty easily. if we go into the early break playing poorly on offense, I bet Shanny and Kyle revisit the idea of Beck starting after the bye.

Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
11 games
|
Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
I'm hoping he stays healthy and starts all sixteen. The only way he won't is.....injury or poor performance that forces the coaches hand. Shanahan has made his decision now he must stick by it.

Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
19 games. Book it now.
edit: BOOM goes the dynamite! |

I could see Beck playing if the team is tanking, but that's it. Rex will stay solid enough to hold the job.[/quote] I tend to agree. I think the whole John Beck thing is pretty silly. The Shanny's endorse him as a player (but never said he was a starter), then Beck starts talking to the media like he's the guy, and at the end of the day, Grossman beats him out like we all should have expected. If Rex stays healthy (which could be hampered by our average at best O-line and lack of O-line depth), he'll start all year. You know what could happen though- it could be a repeat of 2010 with Rex in the McNabb role, albeit with less controversy. Rex's play is up and down, we're out of the playoffs, and Beck gets a 3 or 4 game test drive to see what we have... |

Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
I think he'll start every game he's healthy until a long term replacement we draft is ready to take over

Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
I'm playing the percentages and saying 1-5. I have no idea what is going to happen at the QB position, but when you balance the risk of injury with John Beck lurking, there's too much that can go wrong.
By far the best chance of a burgundy and goal postseason is that Rex hits the ground with a 3 TD day against New York and holds the job most of the season starting 13+ games and relegating Beck to second team and spot start duty all year. This is a best case outcome: Rex plays well and Rex plays often. But too much can go wrong that results in Rex starting 5 or fewer games. The QB debate isn't over, even though I just don't see anyway I'm sitting at the end of the year wondering why I never believed in John Beck. |
Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
Rex starts 16 games unless he gets hurt. Even if Bad Rex shows up a few times during the season, Grossman will be consistent enough that Mike won't feel the need to bench him the way he did McNabb.
|
Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
11+ unless theres a major injury or terrible QB play, he's in. both guys are seat warmers for the starting QB we just don't have yet though.

Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
Considering Shanny benched a franchise, Pro Bowl caliber QB w/o much hesitation my intuition is Rex doesn't have much of a leash either. I think if he sucks it up in two of the six early games Beck will get a shot. Worst case scenario is the starter changes more than once during the season, which I could see happening given Shanny's ego and penchant for throwing curve balls at his players.
Honestly I don't see much connection between Mike and either QB. Don't forget Mike has never developed a QB. Elway was already, well...Elway. Cutler plays at about the same level regardless of coach or team. We're sitting on a guy in Beck who needs a coach like Peyton to mentor him. Rex needs...I have no idea what he needs lol. I hope we can run the ball all season!!!! |

Twelve.

Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
I hope 16+
|
Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
I say 19~ :headbange

Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
I would hope that if Rex starts throwing a bad game Kyle will change up the play calling to relieve some of the pressure with runs, screens and short dump offs. I know we'll see some INT's no matter what but Rex has been around long enough no to get too frazzled.

Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
Is the real question, "How many games will the OL will allow Grossman to start before he's hurt?".

This. I think next year's qb of the future is currently residing on an NCAA roster somewhere. |

Matt Barkley anyone? :) |

Anyone opposed? Beats the hell out of Rex and Beck. |
Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
I think the Keim article with the scout's (Razzano) opinion sums up my feelings on the Rex situation. I think Rex gives us the best chance to win now, but we know his ceiling. We dont know Becks ceiling, was hoping to find that out and I think we still will.
|
Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
I put in 11-16 and think it will be close to the full 16. I think if by game 10 we have a horrible record (something like 2-8, 3-7) we make a change just so we can see what we have in Beck, but as I think we will be closer to 5-5 or maybe better I think Rex will be the Qb for the entire year.

wish the thread title had been:
How many chucks will RG chuck, if RG could chuck chucks!! I said 11-16, don't see him pulled unless or until playoffs are out of the question. |
Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
Grossman is on a short leash...if he stinks the first two games he will be pulled. I dont think he will cause the running game will be killing it.

Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
See Griese v. Plummer in Denver. Shanny went back & forth w/them for a while. He's not hesitant to bench anyone, that's part of his coaching MO. I Rex will start most (2/3) but he will get benched.
Unless he really has no confidence in Beck, Shanny will bench Rex as soon after he feels things aren't working. We saw w/McNabb last year that he will bench a qb & deal w/a lot of questions. I don't see nearly as much scrutiny coming to such a decision w/Grossman. I see him being benched a few times this year w/the caveat that in at least 1 case the game will be near over. |
Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
Let's start with the assumption that Rex plays a full season...
--History of injuries (minus 4 games) --History of inconsistent play (minus 3 games) --Increased risk of injury, age-related (minus 2 games) --Increased risk of benching due to capable backup (minus 2 games) --Increased risk of benching due to coach with history of benching QBs quickly (minus 2 games) --Increased risk of benching due to Skins' being out of playoff contention (minus 2 games) So I'll say 1-5 games for Rex... |
Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start
