We've cut it real close two weeks in a row
Last week, we had a critical 4th down conversion to Moss early last week against the Giants. We went on to score on that drive.
This week, we scored a touchdown with that throw from Grossman to Moss in the 4th quarter. I guess one can say that Grossman can suck ass for a portion of the game, but he is ALWAYS capable of making a critical throw to help his team as well. This is something that has been sorely lacking from most of our previous QBs. |
Re: We've cut it real close two weeks in a row
I like our swagger. Unlink last year where we lost 5 games by 4pts or less we are winning the battles and finishing. Great comeback.

Re: We've cut it real close two weeks in a row
Watching the game today, I was on pins and needles for a portion of it because I wondered if Shanahan was going to put in Beck, after the two INT's in a row, I just thought Grossman wasn't there today mentally.
But he recovered and played a great game. I think the difference in this team vs previous redskins games is that this team found a way to win today, everybody stepped up. The redskins of old would have for sure lost this game. They used to always lose the close ones. One good thing about Rex is he keeps doing his thing and trying to make plays and win the game. Other QB's we've had, especially JC, would kind of regress after a boneheaded INT or something like that, and they wouldn't be any good the rest of the game. I like what i've seen so far. The team is struggling but they are finding a way to win, something we didnt' have before. |
Re: We've cut it real close two weeks in a row
Yeah, I am very impressed by Rexy today -- one of the picks wasn't his fault but his going for Santana in the endzone on a fourth down is big time. Also, I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but some of his throws are like 20-30 yard lasers -- I had no idea Sexy Rexy had, dare I say it, kind of a cannon for an arm.

Even though i was throwing sh*t and in an emotional rage, I still felt like we had a chance to win. After we won, I felt a little bored. This team is much better, poise-wise |

I remember when Rex was coming to the NFL there were a lot of people comparing him to Jeff George in terms of arm strength, and unfortunatley at times during his career, he resembled Jeff George in brain too. But no joke I always knew his arm was huge and I think that kind of got forgotten when we had the "good rex" and "bad rex" moments during 2006. But i can't seriously remember the last time we have had a QB with a rifle arm and willing to take shots downfield. Mark Rypien had a cannon for an arm, I don't know who else recently besides Jeff George in 2000. Brunell could throw bombs when he was healthy. JC had a big arm but was afraid to throw downfield. Good to see the redskins throw some deep passes after so many years of run, run, run, punt. |
Re: We've cut it real close two weeks in a row
I don't consider Rex's arm to be in elite company strength wise. His ball velocity does not compare to a Cutler, for example. That throw to Davis could have been even more productive if he got some more mustard on it. What compensates for this is his decisiveness with the ball.
|
Re: We've cut it real close two weeks in a row
I hope we can stop hearing about this good Rex/bad Rex stuff soon. Yeah he makes mistakes at times, who doesn't? He doesn't get down and he just keeps plugging away. He's a great fit for this offense. He's definitely matured from his time in Chicago.

His arm definitely isn't all that great. He tends to lob some up at times, and his deep throws leave something to be desired, but overall he's got more than enough arm to get the job done. |

I think so too. I won't lie, I was a bit worried the picks may keep on rolling. Rex showed a lot of poise against an improved AZ defense. I think one thing people forget to mention is our pass-pro doesn't seem to look the best. They looked a bit better this game, but overall they have struggled over the last two weeks. I am more concerned about the oline play than Rex, especially against teams like the Jets. Twilliams looked a bit better, however. |
Re: We've cut it real close two weeks in a row
I thought the pass pro was pretty good today, especially with how blitz happy the Cards are.

You took the words out of my mouth. The good Rex/bad Rex thing is so played. Everytime he throws and int it's supposed to confirm something bad. It's beyond silly. All Qbs throw interceptions. He's clearly a different QB. |
Re: We've cut it real close two weeks in a row
Rex has gotten better, but he still will make a dumb throw every now and then i.e. the forced throw the first drive of the game.

He's more efficient I would say. And one of those ints wasn't on him. |
Re: We've cut it real close two weeks in a row
props to the dragon today his two picks sucked especially down inthe redzone, but he was under alot of pressure today and hurried...i was impressed overall with how he dealt

Just sorta seems like you're nitpicking when you call out one int. |

I would think him throwing the ball too high was his fault. |

People seem to forget Patrick Ramsey threw for the 3rd most amount of yards in his 2 first career games in NFL history. #Henevergotafairshot |
Re: We've cut it real close two weeks in a row
Rex might make some bad plays, but like I said in the gameday thread that he will lead us back and make plays for us
|
Re: We've cut it real close two weeks in a row
who cares if we've cut it close? in case you haven't noticed this isn't a great football team. we're not going to walk on the field and blow people out. most likely every game is going to be close.

Sorry bud, this is not the same team as last year. With under 20 players from last year being carried over, there is absolutely NO evidence to show that this isn't a great football team. In fact, in the past, we'd be in on the losing end of this due to bungled plays. It matters a big deal because good football teams WIN these types of games. |
Re: We've cut it real close two weeks in a row
Well for the second week in a row I have missed watching the game in real time. I have it DVRed and I will when I get home. I did follow it and have friends texting me during the game, and I have to say it seems as though from someone who was getting there info second hand, it was an extremely tight game.
I love how we came back from 8 down with 10 minutes to go in the 4th, and won for a change. This team is different from the past, and I believe that Rex has something to do with it. You have a bunch of young guys, guys who are looking to win, and guys who are looking to prove doubters wrong. This is a good thing to have as a make up for a team. This could be a winning team this year. I am not making any predictions right now as I am just happy to see this kind of football in DC again. This is a team I am proud of as a fan. There are plenty of doubters, hatters, and people who have no faith in our team, some still believe that DS is still putting things together. I started way to many sentences with this in this post, but I am feeling to lazy to go back and rewrite any of them. I can't wait to watch the game next week in real time! WE WANT DALLAS!!! |
Re: We've cut it real close two weeks in a row
We beat NY by 14, shoulda won easily today. Once this offense gets rolling I think we'll win a few blowouts.
We beat NY by 14, shoulda won easily today. Once this offense gets rolling I think we'll win a few blowouts.
A good team does beat the Giants by 14 and then beats the Cardinals by more than that.
This was not a very good team today, but the Cardinals are an opponent who were ripe enough for the picking so that the Redskins could play a lot of losing football and still be in the game at the end. I don't feel as good about the future prospects as I did going into today. But at least with the past results...they can't take those away from you. And 2-0 was as perfect as the Redskins could have been on this "homestand." We accomplished our stated goal, but that was ugly. |
Re: We've cut it real close two weeks in a row
Seems as though this offense, once we start scoring TDs in the Redzone, we were 2-7 in the RZ today, we are going to be a great offense. That loss would have really stung had we not pulled it out. To out gain a team by 235 yrds in a half and only come away with 10 points with 5 trips into the RZ, would really have hurt. BUT these guys fight and win. Wow.
Like to see this. |
The packers had tons of close games last year but got it together at the end. This team looks to have some young talent on D and a couple good running backs and some WR and TE talent. If they learn to play through and make red zone plays, we can make some noise at the end of the season.

Re: We've cut it real close two weeks in a row
C, I am not trying to look that far ahead yet. I want to so bad, but I am staying level headed about this season. Not trying to get my expectations high, as of yet. I do like what I see, and this is a team that could pull something like that off, as could quite a few teams this year.
The Packers were my pick last year, and I was completely retreating from the pick in like week 5 or 6, and all the way till the end of the year. I only came back on board when they decisively beat the Eagles in the first week of the playoffs. It seemed as though they had found "it" again. C BTW my daughter just turned 1! (Why I missed watching the game today.) |

THANKS! And yes it did, almost to quick. The wife was a little depressed as the day neared. All is good though, and she realises this is just part of the process.
Sorry for the momentary thread highjack. Back to football! |

I agree, this isn't last years team. But let's not get too ahead of ourselves. After two games we've beaten a beat up Giants team at home and a terrible defensive team in Arizona. I'm not calling this team great after two games. |

The proper title for this thread is:
A. Moss is the Man on 4th Down B. Rex: Erratic Yes, But Don't Count Him Out C. Skins Improving in Close Games? D. Random Redskins Thoughts |
Re: We've cut it real close two weeks in a row
One other thing about Rex that nobody has mentioned: his toughness. We all know our O-line isn't the best, and he's definitely taken his fair share of big shots the last couple weeks. That these hits haven't rattled him or gotten him off his game is invaluable, and are a far cry from our recent QBs *cough* mcnabb. I love what I've seen out of Rexy so far, and especially that.
