Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Rams)
Here we go
Rex Grossman Overall he didn't have a bad game. He was actually quite solid up until the final quarter, including a nice TD pass to Moss and some nice throws to Gaffney. And the first INT along with the dropped Hightower pass on 3rd and short were not even remotely Rex's fault. All that said for the second week in a row he faltered when it was "clutch time" Very poor decision on the Laurianitis INT and a poor throw to Moss on 3rd down late in the 4th quarter. Rex can't keep making those mistakes. Still..."We're 3-1 inspite of Rex" is an argument I just don't buy...at all. Brandon Banks No idea what you're doing dude. Actually I suspect Banks thinks (perhaps with reason) his job is hanging by a thread so he needs to bust out a big return to justify his spot on the roster. But you're killing the team with some of these returns. Penalties We played sloppy today. What did we have 10 penalties? More? We had 10 the first three games of the season. FOX Sports Broadcast Not a good effort. Feed kept going in and out. Crazy aerial camera angles...on running plays. No sideline reporters. Not like FOX Kyle Shanahan In my opinion one of the brightest offensive minds in the NFL. But he doesn't have to remind everyone of it all the time. Keep it simple stupid |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Rams)
Jim Haslett's zero cover blitz in critical situations has been a big wrinkle on an otherwise great performance by our defense.
|
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Rams)
The zero blitz on critical 3rd downs. I don't like it.
And the lack of any sort of sideline reporting was puzzling. You're in the media, SS. What do you think that was all about? |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Rams)
LOL....you're dissing on a network?
Yea, those dang network guys almost cost us a win. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Rams)
Kyle- I dont get it. No excuses in the 4th quarter to call the game the way you did. U did last week, ok we learn, but to comeback and do it again. Sorry I cant accept that. Very poor job.
Rex- How the f*ck are you so reckless with your back up against the goaline? You did it last week and comeback and do again this time at a key point in the game. No excuses. D Hall- I can deal with ya getting beat or a PI call every now and then. But the stupid ass penalty was bush league. Cant do that and be a captain on the team. Saw it in the preseason with the fieldgoal delay of game call, last week blastin the coach, and this week with another weak penalty...not gud. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Rams)
I'm going to go look this up but I'd be curious to see how often Banks makes it back to the 20 on kickoffs -- it seems that on ever return he gets stopped between the 15 and 18 yard line.

Sam Huff- I'm listening to post game right now on 980- how on God's green earth is he still on the air? He's literally fully senile and has no idea what's going on. It's embarrassing.

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Rams)
Again, agree with all of the above, although I couldn't watch the game. Glad you threw in BB this week. He could lose his job to Buchanan
I'll add in the nimwits who are calling for Beck too. I hope that everyone that thought the Skins would dominate this game have now come back down to earth. The Rams aren't very good, as expected, but the Skins are not a complete team either. Long way for this offense to go - including the play caller. Special teams, except for the punt team (SAV) is not too good either. If it wasn't for our D, this team could easily be 1-3. Good news is Detroit and SF came back and beat Dallas and Philly...LMAO. |

0 blitz rules! Don't be a girl. Real men use 0 blitz. Yesterday I was in a bar trying to pick up a chick. Rather then walking up to her and simply saying "hi" I said "I want to f**k you." 0 blitz for the win! Also I wanted a raise from my boss so what did I do. Ran into his office, tackled him, and demanded a raise! 0 blitz FTW! Also I wanted to get a game free from Gamestop so after I got out of jail on bail I ran to my local shop jumped over the counter and grabbed a copy of Wii Fit. 0 blitz FTW |

Banks: 2nd straight bad game. KR'S aren't even getting to the 20, and muffed a Punt. Don't know whats going on.
Agree w/ SS. Fox Sports was bad. The camera man was fooled on play actions, wierd camera angels, short blackouts, and late getting out of breaks. Penalties: Most of them were BS. Anytime a Punt Returner doesn't fair catch (TWICE), you're asking to get hit. Not worried about those. In general, the NFL is becoming a soft league. If it looks bad, It's gonna be a flag. Rex Grossman: Delay of Game is on Grossman, and that can't happen. Hightower and Moss dropped catchable 3rd down passes, but that last pick cannot happen against a good team. Rams didn't take advantage, but those picks (and near ones) you can't have. |

For one drive he did :) |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Rams)
Rex: As has been said, for 3 quarters today he did just enough to win. But he had a bad 4th, what with the bad throws, 1 for a pick and 1 on third down. But when it was all said and done he had another average day today and his bad spots came in critical moments. I don't think a qb change will solve anything but he's certainly not playing consistent yet. We're just going to have to put up with this all season, and hopefully next year we'll have our franchise quarterback.
Special teams, minus Gano and Rocca. Perry Riley and Niles Paul, both of them need to learn you have to give the returner the opportunity to field the ball before you light him up. We know they're going to call the defenseless receiver this year if you don't give them the opportunity, and both of them were just too eager to light the guy up. Love the enthusiasm but they gotta slow their role a little bit to give the returner time to catch him, then they can light him up all they want. Also concerning special teams, Brandon Banks. I think partial blame needs to go to our special teams for their ineffective blocking, but Banks needs to know when it's time to return it and when it's time to fair catch it. He's had a serious lack of big plays this season, and it minimizes his value considering that's all he brings to the table. Also we really shot ourselves in the foot with all the penalties today. I know the fans are going to jump on D.Hall for his penalty down in our red zone, but that was another bad call by the refs. Both D.Hall and the Rams wideout were playing like they both thought the Rams' wideout didn't step out of bounds, so what was D.Hall supposed to do? Just let him go? Come on refs, that one's not on D.Hall. But the bad calls by the refs went both ways today, especially on the punt that they downed inside our 5 yard line that was called a touchback. But our sloppy play today definitely could've cost us. Tim Hightower: Don't wanna pile on too much here, but given the way Torain really came out and seized his opportunity today the more inneffective he is running the ball the less PT he's gonna see. And finally, the playcalling. Specifically, the 0 blitz on defense and the bootlegging on offense. We get it, you like to run the bootleg Kyle S. But it's not effective when you keep running it all the time. And the 0 blitz has been effective, except when it's obvious it's coming on 3rd down. We shied away from it at the end of the game today, but like the bootleg it's only useful in limited application. |

Someone should tell Kyle Rex can't win games for you by throwing the ball...this is specially true when you have the lead.

This. Kyle doesn't get it, QBs aren't interchangeable -- Rex is not good enough to win the game for you (or even come through in clutch situations). You can't put the game in his hands, he'll kind of, sort of be able to manage it but that's it. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Rams)
i personally dont trust rex' decision making on 3rd downs. i think it was 3rd down with 6:23 or so to go in the second quarter, rex got some pressure scrambled alil bit and threw a ball to moss who was heavily covered barely missing an int. even if moss had caught it, it was short of the 1st down marker.
i know rex said he threw some balls away on the 1st half and that contributed to his low completion percentage but on 3rd down i think he forces things, even if its to a guy double covered short of the 1st down marker . . also this is 2 weeks in a row he threw a ball right to a linebacker who had dropped back into covergae (lee last week). he said on his 2nd pick today that they did a staple PA pass and the mike lb bit hard and even though the mike lb hit hard he has to be aware that the mike lb could be fast enough to get back but still, 2 weeks in a row he doesnt account for a lb dropping back also should he say what plays are a staple of our offense? its only week 4. reminds me of zorn where he would lay out his total thinking and philosophy on specific plays during his postgame the first few games he was here |

I'm still pissed Spags didn't want the Redskins gig. What a terrific head coach he's turned out to be. Just another missed opportunity by our moribund franchise.

Really? I'm not. We took one lame duck head coach over another. Hard to be mad about it considering we got our revenge today. |

Rex really has a problem when it comes to reading the underneath coverage. He gets fooled too often on basic stuff.

Cardinals beating Giants now 20-10...this could turn out to be a great week for the Skins.

At the very least if they're going to loose I don't want them to start until hockey season. Dealing with a loss for an entire week sucks when you have nothing to watch in between. |

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Rams)
I dont like how KS continues to shy away from running on 3rd and short.
We had a huge lead with time our only enemy. Down in FG range...he dialed up a pass, when we had a guaranted 20-0 lead...of course, it was a pick, easy to predict. Then at our own 20 or so, with a 3rd and one up by 10 with like 8 minutes left, he call a pass again...with Torrain tearing it up...I just don't get it...I really don't...of course it was incomplete, stopping the clock, etc. This crap may work with some teams, but sooner or later, we won't be so lucky with our defense. We need to learn to run, run, run with a lead, and there was no evidence it would fail, we were starting to dominate. I don't buy all the balanced crap at the end of the game, the first 5 plays of the game were all passes, it became hard to establish the run until we had the lead then we threw Torrain in. Yes, we have red zone issues, I believe the solution may be Torrain 3 times straight. I frankly don't care if we don't get a TD...but at least we will get 3 instead of equal shot of a TD pass and a pick. We need to establish a power running game and our only shot is Torrain. Why we didn't pull a Gibbs at that point and punch them in the mouth when they were taking body blows is beyond me. Like I said, this may work with poor teams...but we need to run out the clock with power rushing if we want to win in the NFC East...some things never change. on the other hand....we WON and I did not expect to be 3-1 at all Go SKINS! |

Or was it easy to predict that it was 3rd and long and we were on the outskirts of field goal range so they knew they had to pass to keep the drive alive? As said on ESPN, come on man. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Rams)
Moss & Hightower both dropped catchable balls that killed drives.
