I say we "Dive for a Top 5"!!!!!
With the season looking like it is over at just over the halfway mark, do you think we just let the youngsters play on the "playground" and take the dive for a top 5 pick?
|
Re: I say we "Dive for a Top 5"!!!!!
Not yet. Five losses is too soon to give up. It sends the wrong message to players.
Soon though. |
Re: I say we "Dive for a Top 5"!!!!!
Only if you will write buttplug on your forehead with lipstick for the next 56 days.
|
Re: I say we "Dive for a Top 5"!!!!!
Instead of taking a dive, I say start Hankerson and Paul along with Moss when he comes back, keep starting Helu and hurt and let's give Markus White a chance at LB.

Re: I say we "Dive for a Top 5"!!!!!
So much for not cluttering the board with useless threads.

Re: I say we "Dive for a Top 5"!!!!!
I say if you are a pro athlete, it would be extremely embarrassing if at any point you thought about not giving 100% on the field, especially if you are getting paid a lot of money to do so.
I also say it's pathetic that as a fan you would actively root for this team to lose games for a higher draft pick next season. Name one instance, in the entire history of the big 4 sports leagues in the US, where a team that looked like it was tanking the season actually landed the higher draft pick next year that brought the team good fortune, meaning championships and not just regular season wins, for the next decade. |
Re: I say we "Dive for a Top 5"!!!!!
Well.. you don't intentionally use.. but you find out who you want moving forward

I have no problem with that, if the season is heading downwards and you have young talent on the bench waiting to be used, by all means let them play, so you can see what you have going forward next season. I draw the line at, hey let's actively tank the season so we have a better chance at getting a higher draft pick for next season. History has proven time and time again it doesn't matter what draft pick you have, it matters how you use it. |

If you really think about it Ruh, 90% of these threads are useless. I mean, what do we do in these threads, but just state our opinion about a football team that gives us some distraction from our boredom. Do any of our opinions ultimately matter? No, so in reality these threads are mostly just a distraction, and nothing more. |

Nope this is useless. |
Re: I say we "Dive for a Top 5"!!!!!
Don't ever quit. If we lose, we lose. But don't just throw in the towel.
|
Re: I say we "Dive for a Top 5"!!!!!
OK so we hit like the 8-9 loss mark and we should do the dive? I don't think we dive on purpose, because at this point we are getting to the nasty part of the schedule anyway, so we might take that nosedive regardless.

If you lose 12 games in a season, so be it. As long as you know you went out there and gave it your all, then let it be. Sorry for the cliche and everything but when you say dive, you make it sound intentional. I just can't stomach the thought of the team that I love going out there and intentionally laying an egg for a draft pick that may or may not help the team. |

True, but then again you go and look in the thread archive, and tell me this is the only one of recent memory that is useless. |
Since we can't suck for Luck, are you asking if we should start, "Whiffin for Griffin?" I just trademarked that.

This thread is as useless as your Gus Frerotte's references and as useless as any of your responses to my original post. |
Re: I say we "Dive for a Top 5"!!!!!
I love that we have some really tough teams coming up. The young guys will get to play and learn against some of the best in the nfl. We will most likely lose most of them so have a good shot at a top 5 pick. And maybe a team like the Rams will get #1 and if we are top 5 it wont cost us our next 3 drafts to move up to get Luck. I will take losses for valuable experience for rookies like Hankerson,Helu and Paul. I just want to see improvement from week to week. And will also get us that guy at Qb where its so obvious we are lacking.

LOL. This thread gets to stay open just so people can enjoy your post. |
Re: I say we "Dive for a Top 5"!!!!!
without a run game, i dont see us being remotely competitive anyways so i dont think we will have to try at losing.
just a few games ago everyone was talking about no less than a 10-6 season . . . . |

You should rename it "Whiffin for Griffin" LOL. |
Re: I say we "Dive for a Top 5"!!!!!
I think starting 3 rookies on offense, all of whom were picked in the 3rd round or later, is the beginning of the "rebuilding" mindset of this team manifested on the field, at least as far as offense goes anyway. No coach will ever use the words "rebuilding" mid-season, but at this point it's clear we need to find out what we have in certain areas.
What will be interesting is how The Shanny Brain Trust handles the QB sitch. IMO Beck looks way in over his head. Badly really. But at this point switching back to Rex is a flat out admission by the staff that we don't have a QB. Even though everyone already knows that, the coaching staff has "staked their reputation" on these guys. It will be interesting to see if, or when, they actually admit we're nowhere at the most important position in the game. All that said, the notion that teams intentionally tank is dumb. |
Re: I say we "Dive for a Top 5"!!!!!
Just a fun fact. Andrew Lucks number is 12. Maybe we can squint our eyes real tight and pretend its net year and we have Andrew Luck not John Beck

Yeah, Luck is like the Ferrari and Beck is like the ghetto Yugo. |

Why not say we don't have a QB, but we think we have some receivers and running backs and they would benefit more right now from Rex throwing them the ball than Beck. Or heck, just start Crompton already |

Why should we start whiffin for Griffin, when we can smell the allure of Moore. |

Yeah, there's a difference between "We're not making the playoffs, let's give the youngsters experience" and "Let's lose!" The first strategy is smart, the second is disgusting and dumb. |

Feenin for Weeden

Re: I say we "Dive for a Top 5"!!!!!
We should. I would really monitor the Rams for the rest of the year skins fans.
If they have the first overall pick our chances of getting luck just got somewhere. |

There's still too much football left to play. The Redskins are in last place in the NFC East, but are a game behind Dallas and almost tied with Philly. Anything can still happen. The Redskins do need to play their young players regardless of what their record is. But the veterans on the team are still the leaders of this team. Coaching and level of play on the field will determine the outcome of this season. The Redskins can end up 7-9, 6-10, 5-11, or 9-7 and maybe 10-6 if they get on a roll and start playing some solid football. One thing is certain though. The Redskins need a QB. If they do end up picking in the top ten for a third straight year, then they will have to execute a trade to get Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, or Landry Jones. All of them are super upgrades over Beck and Grossman. |
Re: I say we "Dive for a Top 5"!!!!!
Nobody is going to "take a dive" in the sense of losing on purpose, but I'm all for continuing with getting the younger guys more playing time to really evaluate what we've got.
I don't think we're gonna have to try too hard to get a top 5 pick with the way things are going. |
