Congrats to Roy Helu (Redskins rookie record)

I think a Redskins Rookie record deserves it's on thread. Roy Helu is the first rookie RB in franchise history to rush for 3 straight 100 yard games, this is a traditionally good RB franchise, so lets hope Roy becomes our STAR we have been craving for! “It’s pretty cool,” Helu said. “All credit to the linemen. They did pretty great.” Stand up kind of guy and a TEAM player, I like him more and more. Helu, though, was typically critical of himself afterward. “I need to work on a whole bunch of stuff, being disciplined in pass protection while running and accelerating my feet on contact,” Helu said. “I think today I can definitely look at some game film and improve.” Roy Helu remains a bright spot in Redskins’ dismal season - The Washington Post “I don’t think Helu even has a television. He didn’t get a computer until very late, if he even has Internet access,” said linebacker London Fletcher, chuckling approvingly. “It seems like he never leaves the facility [Redskins Park]. That’s rare for a young man. I appreciate the way he takes care of his body first and stays on top of his job before anything else. |
Re: Congrats to Roy Helu (Redskins rookie record)
This guy is awesome I mean who wouldn't want to block for Helu? This is one running back that gives all the credit to his FB's and OL's. Hopefully we've only scratched the surface with him.

Re: Congrats to Roy Helu (Redskins rookie record)
It's hard to not really like this kid. He's humble, he works hard, and he let's his play talk for him. He's got a really bright future.

Re: Congrats to Roy Helu (Redskins rookie record)
Helu is maybe a bit of a darkhorse for this years offensive MVP with Davis and Williams on the shelf. And unlike last year, that wouldn't be a cheapy award given to Santana Moss because, "well, I guess he didn't disappoint me too bad."

Re: Congrats to Roy Helu (Redskins rookie record)
It is a thing of beauty when Helu plants his foot and accelerates through the hole.

Re: Congrats to Roy Helu (Redskins rookie record)
Yeah I'd give the MVP award to Roy, would have been a split with Fred and Trent but they are clowns so All hail to Helu

he looks like Matt Forte but faster Agree? |
Re: Congrats to Roy Helu (Redskins rookie record)
He compares favorably to Forte when Forte was a rookie. But I think if he had Forte's smoothness and elusiveness and ability to be great in the open field, he would have gone higher than he did.
Helu can create yards where there appear to be none and as long as he can do that, he will be a viable runner in the NFL. I wouldn't call his vision superb, but after watching Ryan Torain mistake the water cooler on the sideline for the goalpost for two seasons, I can live with the occasional missed hole. |

Roy is awesome...but I'm not sleeping on Royster either

Agreed. And I predict that he will get stronger in the offseason so that next year he exceeds Forte in tackle-breaking ability. |

I was actually quite shocked at Royster's burst on sunday. Maybe it's simply confidence & making the read quicker, in the preseason he looked slow even against guys that couldn't make a roster. |
Re: Congrats to Roy Helu (Redskins rookie record)
In related news, Kyle Shanahan will make sure we don't see a repeat of this again next week, as we will pass it 50 times. LOL. I kid of course, congrats to Helu. I think between him and Royster, we finally have the two-headed RB attack we've been coveting.

Re: Congrats to Roy Helu (Redskins rookie record)
Still waiting on that Helu avatar.
Royster did look pretty good too. Maybe, just maybe, we're pretty well set at RB :) |

It's a position where you can never have enough depth. And I think they'll address it in the draft. Not to take anyones roster spot specifically (well, Torains), but to add more talent to the team. |

Can't argue w/ you here Tripp. I hope we don't draft one before round 4 or 5 though...there's just too many (greater) needs. |

Re: Congrats to Roy Helu (Redskins rookie record)
Pretty sweet considering the OL isn't the greatest.
|
Re: Congrats to Roy Helu (Redskins rookie record)
Why didn't we start this thread when Helu set the all time franchise record for receptions in a game? Isn't that greater than a Redskins rookie record?
I kid I kid, but seriously congrats to Helu, it's very well deserved, and I honestly wish every man on the roster, besides Fletcher of course, had his kind of attitude. I think his attitude will pay dividends down the road. |

Although he really would look good plastering NFC East defenders on their backs. |
Re: Congrats to Roy Helu (Redskins rookie record)
Only a blip on the radar. An exception to the rule. A mirage if there ever is one
Rookies can't be trusted. Don't you know that they always have to develop on the bench first? Besides, it's a crime to start rookies. Free agents are risk-free; grabbing them is like going to the grocery store to buy food. Rookies are too risky. They cost you games. Vets like Larry Johnson and Torain win you games. /sarcasm |
Re: Congrats to Roy Helu (Redskins rookie record)
Helu's running is a thing of beauty. That quick burst when he puts his foot down, he's like a shot out of a cannon. And as SS said, I wouldn't sleep on Royster either. He showed some glimpses on Sunday as well. Hopefully the running game will continue to progress. It can only help the passing game much more, especially next year when we all hope we have "our guy" under center.
