Heisman winner to give defense another try
How many chances is this guy going to get??? I mean come on, what this is like his 3rd NFL team and he still hasnt even played a regular season down yet. This is crazy!!!

i have mixed feeling's about him i loved him in college but i hate that he keeps retireing when it gets tough
|
don't know much about him...but it looks to me like he peaked too soon...
|
You know what - the Chiefs defense couldn't get any worse, so they're trying to find someone, anyone, to help it out. Looks like he came fairly cheap.
|
Will this guy make up his mind already or what! What a joke.
|
Daseal:
You got it right. He costs the Chiefs nothing; he is obviously a good athlete; the Chiefs' defense is awful and needs help wherever it can find it. So they give him a shot and if it doesn't work out they cut him and move on. Is he likely to be the defensive rookie of the year next year? He has the same chance at that as Ashlee Simpson has of singing Aida for the Metropolitan Opera Company... |
The Chiefs must be really, really desperate.
|
Trying to make it as safety?! HA!
|
I know this might sound crazy but I'm predicting he'll retire sometime in training camp.
|
Doesn't sound crazy at all.
|
Matty:
He probably will not make it as a safety and he may retire during training camp yet one more time, but so what? The Chiefs defense is horrible and they have finally figured out that it isn't the defensive coordinator that makes it horrible it is the players. So, they are bringing in some new meat to see if they can upgrade the talent there. Will this move work out? Probably not. But it's a start... This move is no worse than signing Mark Carrier at the end of his career. Neither move will prove to be critical to truning around a pretty miserable unit. |
This guy is a joke. He doesnt belong in the NFL. Everytime a team wont play him he cries like a little baby and quits. So I say leave him be. Damn Miami might be able to use him or even Oakland. But oh well.

Has anyone welcomed you to the board yet? If not, Welcome! |
nope nobody has yet. and thank you
|
At least Carrier was a proven player, Couch can't even decide if he wants to play or not.
We all know the Chiefs D is hurting, but if you're turning to someone like Couch for anything more than a warm body in practice you're in trouble. |
What I don't understand is why the Chiefs would want him in the first place when the QB they have now is a good QB. Now if thier dfence would do something
|

He's not a QB anymore, he's converted to safety. |
Nobody welcomed me... sniffle. :(
:Flush: |
Ok well welcome back then.
but anyway I honestly didnt know he switched sides. damn reciever QB now saftey. oh hell he isnt going to play that pos he couldnt stand gettin hit being a wr. Now saftey you have got to be kidding me. Damn that is to funny |
"Hey guys, look at me, I can play Safety, I promise! Come on coach, just put me in!!"
What is this, 6th grade?! He's going to have to get over the fact he just isn't going to cut it in the NFL. |
Matty:
I might argue that signing Carrier was far worse than bringing Couch in for a look. There is a low probability that Couch will make it as a safety; I grant you that. Carrier on the other hand was a "proven player" and what he had actually "proven" was that he was through/finished/kaput/over/done/take your pick here. There was really no chance he would be a significant help to a decent team at that point of his career. I am not saying that Couch is even part of the answer for the Chiefs' miserable defense; he isn't. But he is a zero cost option. He's sort of like the guys that the Redskins signed just after the season was over and they could expand the roster. Most of them are longshots to do anything more than act as cannon-fodder for special teams' practices in training camp. But they don't cost anything... |
All pawns in Gibbs' twisted game... muahahahaha. :)
|
welcome anyone that wasnt properly greeted.
Ya never know, mabye he will be a decent cover safety. Doesnt hurt to try. |

Couch was a hell of a talent coming out of college, and how many players do you think may have failed in the NFL if they weren't put in the situation they fell into? Tom Brady? Kurt Warner? Both QBs. Both put into perhaps the greatest situations ever. Tom Brady on a strong offense, with a great defense. Kurt Warner had the ability to lob a ball 40 yards, Bruce or Holt would run under it.
I feel that Couch could start for KC starting next season, at safety. Probability? .05% He's on a team that certainly has the offense to win, in turn making him look better. You play the Cheifs, you could get down quick, causing lots of passes, meaning lots of chances to INT. This is obvious to most everyone. If he's even close to the athelete he used to be, then he has a shot to make it. As far as mentally, that's yet to be seen. I personally believe Ryan Leaf may have been a good QB in the NFL if he were a bit older/mature when he came in. I think physically he was ready, mentally he fell apart. (that won't cause any riots here...) |
slightly off topic for a moment, but in other QB news-I hear that Gibran Hamdan has signed with the Seahawks
|
oh yea, interesting. I wish him the best, he wold have never really had a chance here anyways.
|
But havent they already tried him at safety in St. Louis and Green Bay?
I could of sworn the he played WR. fo ST. L, and greenbay I thought he was a backup QB that why he came back in but I cant remember. Since that he has droped out so many times. That I have forgotten. Whats his name again? |
Initially he did try to convert to WR with the Rams. Then he retired and resurfaced with the Pack trying to play safety. Then he retired again. Now he's back with the Chiefs.
|
was he with cleve also?
|
Tim Couch was with Cleveland, not the dude we're talking about here Eric Crouch
|
Duh my bad

I guess he'll be playing some arena football first http://www.laavengers.com/pressreleases.php?id=259 |
Can someone explain to me why this guy (Crouch) wasn't considered an NFL prospect at QB even though he had just won the Heisman at that position? This all happened during a couple of years when I wasn't able to follow the NFL too closely.
|
Why won't he just play QB?
|
it's gotta be tough for a kid coming out of college, who's played QB his whole life, to be told you aren't going to play QB...you're going to be a wide out, on a team where you'll be a practice squad member at best. When he first came out, he would have been no higher than 5th on the depth chart...I'm not saying what he did was right...he did what he felt he had to do in order to play QB.
I believe he's finally seen the writing on the wall, and he'll be a backup for the Chiefs. The kid is incredibly athletic, and if he's determined and focused, he could really excel. Guess we'll wait and see... Scott Frost was another Nebraska QB who was coverted to safety, and he did ok when he played. Crouch wasn't recruited to play QB because he was from Nebraska's Option Run offense. The NFL saw him for his speed rather than his arm (which is non-existant), so they tried to convert him into a WR. That didn't work, so he's now trying the other side of the coin. |

He was never much of a passer in college, he was a great athelete playing QB. He did his damage with his legs. |
