Antonio Brown runs the 40 in 4.18
We haven't said anything about Chad Morton, but you would have to say it's that he is going to be trade bait and won't play again for the Redskins.
Found this on another site: Antonio Brown was clocked at 4.18 seconds in the 40 yard dash when he played for Gregg Williams at Buffalo last year. You can read it at this ESPN archive: http://games.espn.go.com/cgi/ffl/playernewsarchive?statsId=6605 His opponent in the 40 yard dash, Devin Hester of the Univ. of Miami, was allegedly clocked at 4.29 in the 40, a slowpoke compared to Brown. Jan 29th, 2005 Miami,FL- Redskins WR #86 Antonio Brown, edged out UMiami Kickoff specialist Devin Hester in a 40 yard race. $2000 and bragging rights where on the line, as a crowd of 1000 people gathered around just before the two played each other in a flag football game. Antonio edged out Hester by a 1/4 step but as he was crossing the finish line and looked back and snarled at Hester mocking him. http://www.flagmag.com/ |
That is pretty damn fast!!! Anyone know what Green's fastest 40 time was?
|
Does anyone know the specific details of Morton's contract? I know it was a five-year deal with the last two potentially voidabe if he reached minimum participation marks. Since he was injured for a good portion of the season, I think there is a solid chance that he did not reach the required number of snaps and the final two years of the deal will be triggered. If the final two years are voided, however, then I think he's good as gone. With the last two years being voided, he will occupy a nice little sum of cap space in 2005, and I don't think we are going to spend that on a backup kick returner (assuming we keep Brown.)
|
he definately looked fast on punt returns. but speed(which i love)isnt every thing, remember albert connell...
but you definately got to give the guy a look at WR and ST. we should use him for those crappy WR screen passes. |
Coles was clocked at 4.16 coming out of Florida state. Was the 40 hand timed or electronic? 40 times are VERY subjective to what they're running on, and who's doing the clocking.

Daseal:
I don't remember which agent did this back in the 80s, but one of them had access to a track that was ever so slightly "downhill" but unless you put a level on the track you w0ouldn't notice it. So he had his prospects timed on that track and they did very well. "40 times" need to be recorded under standard conditions if you want to compare them. jamf: I suspect that the Skins' coaches already know that Brown is very fast. So the question now is why he wasn't in the games as a WR since he is so fast. Possibilities: 1. He can't catch a cold? 2. He can't learn the patterns? 3. He can't/won't block? 4. It wouldn't matter because the OL won't allow the Skins to throw deep very often? 5. The coaching staff is as dumb as a box of wrenches? My guess is #4 with a little of #1 thrown in... |
SC - that's what the combine is for! All on the same surface and electronic!
Remember the coaches liked having just a return guy. When they were using Thrash they kept him out of the game at WR for most of the game. Plus Brown wasn't on the team the whole year was he?? Probably didn't know crap about the offense. Hell the guys who had been there the whole year didn't look like they knew the offense half the time. The last thing the coaches needed was another dolt out on the field. |
I won't be surprised to see Morton gone this offseason.

Jeezus, that is blisteringly fast.

Why he's our cheerleader, our mascot, our wonderfully optimistic booster of spirits. He's the anti-Bill O'Reilly, anti-Dennis Miller, anti-Bill Maher, anti-Dennis Leary, anti-cynic....in short, he's SC. :biggthump |
Bottom line, Brown is fast.

get rid of morton, he hasnt done anything and hes way overpaid
|
I mean, Morton has had excellent blocking his whole stay in Washington... oh, wait. He didn't have any blocking last year and didn't get a real chance this year! Morton is still a great return man - this is one decesion I wouldn't want to make. What are the cap implications of letting him go as opposed to keeping him, anything?

Could we get a draft pick for Morton? Or, do we just release him? |
Why not have them both back there? Maybe run a little trick reverse every now and then. While we've got them both, we may as well put them both to use.
|
So if we have picks in the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th rounds, and we're expected to get another 3rd rounder from the Gardner trade, I'd like to see us do the following:
Move down a few notches in the 1st round, picking up a 1st and a 2nd/3rd rounder. Trade two third round picks (maybe even toss in a 5th rounder) for a reasonably high second rounder. We can then get two quality players who can step in and contribute immediately. |
Brown isn't just fast he can stop and go on a dime, the guy defiently has moves and that's the biggest key the ability to make people miss and not just out run them, the first time I saw him run I was shocked I couldn't believe we were able to pick this kid up for nothing, I also knew it was by, by, Morton, he doesn't need to be a WR he just need's to return kick's, if he eventually work's his way into a wr great but the first time I saw him run I said sign him fast this kid is the good's.

Chad Morton is a Kick Returner. Bottom line, he's not a punt returner, if my memory serves me correct, I dont think he ever did punts in NY. I dont know what the cap issues are, but if Morton dosent save anything, I say we keep both of them back there on kick returns and let Antonio Brown do the punts. Now that would be a dangerous KO return team right there. |
Exactly. And like I said before, run one of the fake reverses every now and then to keep the other teams honest.

Darrell Green's 40 time
Someone wanted to know Darrell Green's time in the 40. I read from a tract at my church that Green ran his 40 in 4.17 seconds. That's pretty darn fast, although I've heard of better times (like 4.09 for Alexander Wright, a KR/WR for the Cowboys and Raiders in the mid '90s). In addition to learning that he won the NFL's fastest man competition three times, I heard from a source (whose accuracy I can't confirm) that Green actually beat Deion Sanders in a 40 yard dash when Sanders joined the team '99.

Ramseyfan:
Thank you for giving me such exalted status here... :biggthump Folks, up until this year we had a guy on the roster named Cliff Russell who was a speed burner (fastest in camp) and he never saw the field because - even when he was healthy, he could not catch the ball. Venus de Milo has better hands! Maybe - just maybe - Brown has the same kind of problem? We don't know because we haven't seen him have to make a catch yet - but sometime in practice the coaches have to have see that. Many years ago, the Eagles drafted and signed a guy named Frank Budd. He was the NCAA 100-yard dash champion AND he won the Olympic medal in the 100-meters. He was the world's fastest human at the time; he beat Bob Hayes world record. Did you ever hear of him as an NFL player? I doubt it because he only played in a handful of games. The reason he could not make it in the NFL was that the only way he could catch a ball was if it got jammed in his faceguard. Speed is very, very important for a WR. That is why I continue to be worried about Coles and his future as a #1 WR. But speed alone is useless - - just as great hands would be useless on a WR with the speed of a Derrick Dockery. |

I think DG won four times. That fastest man competition was quite an event back in the day, televised even, with Green, Willie Gault, Herschel Walker, among others. |
I Remember A Competition A While Ago That Green Won. I Beleive It Was The Worlds Fastest Athlete. It Had Baseball Players, Track And Feild Athletes And Football Players. It Had Events Like Base Running And Sprints With Football Pads On.i Dont Think They Do That Kind Of Stuff Anymore

I would just like to add that Hester runs faster than a 4.29, I can assure you or this.
Morton is probably gone, and hopefully Brown can step up and make plays. Speed isnt everything but it sure helps with a returner. |
at art monk camo one year. someone asked darrell green what his fastest 40 time ever was and he said just under 4.1 And yes he did beat deion sanders in 99 along with the rest of the team.
