Emmitt Smith To Announce Retirement...Buy Vikings?
http://www.twincities.com/mld/pioneerpress/sports/10783556.htm?1c
Look for future Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith to announce today his retirement from the Arizona Cardinals to join Reggie Fowler's investment group that is trying to buy the Vikings. Fowler's group also includes local automobile dealer Denny Hecker.
I'm sort of surprised this is the only place I've read this |
I just heard it on ESPN radio
|
He was the only Cowboy ever that I didn't hate...
Glad he can go out with his dignity |
He was the only Cowboy ever that I didn't hate...
Glad he can go out with his dignity
I agree but I would add akman to the list as both were class acts just on the wrong team. |
In the end, I mainly hated Michael Irvin.
|
It's about time! Emmitt was a great RB. The key word being was! Hopfully Eddie Gorge will fallow his lead.
|
This is 2 years too late, he should have retired as a Cowboy. I heard he might sign a 1 day deal with the Cowboys so he can officially retire with them.
|
Its funny though, I found a news story that said Emmit Smith denies retirement. The news story said the ESPN broke the news of Emmitt's retirement. Leave it to ESPN to be the tabloid sports news network like it seems like it has become. Then again, Smith has reached his twilight of his career. He has nothing left to prove!

Charlie Walters had this item in his column in the St. Paul Pioneer Press yesterday. The guy who owns the Timberwolves of the NBA wants to buy the Vikes but has only offered $475M while Red McCombs wants to sell the team for $600 - 650M.
Fowler has been flirting around the idea of buying an NFL franchise in the past but he hasn't had the amount of money that he would need as the "majority holder" to meet the league's net worth regulations. Another potential buyer of the Vikes is rumored to be the guy who founded Gateway Computers. Now there is a guy who has the net worth to buy just about anything he damned well pleases. Supposedly, he would buy the team himself with NO partners at all. Stay tuned for lots more stuff on this front in the next year or so. |
I don't think the NFL would mind if Reggie Fowler got the Vikings because it would make him the league's first minority owner
|
There are rumors that the Vikes may move once they are sold, them or the Saints are potential targets to move to LA.

Yeah, LA should get a team, but I defintley dont think the NFL should expand anymore. I have always thought the Vikings would be the team to move. |
I just want LA to get a NFC team so I can see the Skins more often!! :httr: The Vikings would work, but I like them in Minnesota.(They just need to play out side again.!) I think LA should get the SAINTS.
|
Hold the presses, Emmitt says the rumors of him retiring are false...
|
yeah I think that's what skinsguy was saying right?
Apparently he spoke today with the Dallas Morning News, "Did you see my year last year?" Smith was quoted as asking on the paper's web site. "Do you think I'm ready to retire?" I thought he might try for 20,000 yards but that's another two or three years at least away. |
he definitly played much better last year than he did the year before. And I am talking about before he got hurt.
How many yards did he end up with? whats |
He had 900 and change and 9 TD's

Vikings have a lease on their stadium through 2010/1011 season so moving them before that could be dicey.
IF the league really wants a team in LA, they ought to be able to handle this prior to the 2011 season. Personally, I think the league really does NOT want a team in LA. They want LA to be that "big market where a stadium might be built to take a team " and use that as a lever to get new stadiums built for existing teams in places like Minnesota and Louisiana and Indy (already done) and Arizona (already done) and San Diego (already done). |

LA is to the NFL as Washington was to baseball - the threatened move of any and all teams looking to extort taxpayer funds for a stadium. The collapse of the Expos made DC almost impossible to say no to, but opposition to Vegas as the new "dream location" is fading as we speak... |
LA is just too big of a market for the NFL to ignore. They want a franchise in LA to SUCCEED, which going by history isn't likely to happen no matter how hard they try.
|
I'd love to see Vegas get some professional sports teams.
|
Speaking of Vegas I'm getting married there in April, first time to Vegas. Any hot spots you guys recommend? Sights to see, etc.?

Pussycats, ask for Jade....you might want to see her before you get married, don't want you getting into any trouble with Mrs. Warpath |
Crazy as it may sound I'm looking for hot spots that don't involve strippers, just not in to that scene anymore.
|
You'll have to let me know how it goes, my girlfriend and I have been thinking about that as a possible wedding location.
|
They have great deals for weddings, a heck of a lot cheaper than doing a traditional one.
We're bringing our close family and friends and we're going to make a big party out of it! |

Jade is not just any stripper....but if you're looking for something else it's kind of cool to check out the old strip,Ballys Las Vegas has some decent blackjack tables, Paris Las Vegas is a nice hotel with a good brunch. The New York-New York Hotel and Casino has some rides on the roof, I think. And if you like Laser Tag, there's a LT park just outside Vegas, near UNLV if I remember right. |
Yeah, I'm looking for something non-traditional too. Our family is a big group of party animals so we have to do something involving debauchery.

I agree, but this litte mention from the St. Louis Post Dispatch is interesting, though it seems really farfetched:
Here's a peculiar nugget from Tom Jensen's NASCAR column on SpeedTV.com: "And speaking of stick-and-ball sports, the official Media Tour Rumor That Refuses To Die is that NASCAR Chairman Brian France is trying to buy an NFL team. Specifically, multiple sources close to the situation claim France and Rupert Murdoch's son are trying to buy the St. Louis Rams and move the team back to Los Angeles. "Asked about it on the opening day of the media tour, France's comment was, 'We've got a deep-structured team anyway, but I'm not planning to go anywhere, and that's really the extent of anything I could comment to.' Many in attendance took that as a blanket denial, but we'll have to wait and see. Right now, it's a rumor, but it's coming from so many different sources and different directions that it's hard to believe there isn't at least some fire where there's so much smoke.''
|

Well now you've done spolied my plans! |

Just checking out the casinos each with it's own unique theme is fun............ Make sure you place a bet for the Redskins to make the playoffs......it will then make it extra special if they do.......... |
One thing that always irritated me about Emmitt.......he would be on the field and an injury would occur.........he would lay on the ground wrathing in pain and you thought uh oh serious injury.......then after Emmitt had his little rest, he'd jump up, a miraculous recovery......he wasn't injured at all.......just catching a cat nap I guess....SHEESH!!!! I never saw Riggo do that........Emmitt couldn't take it as he got older...........
