London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
Don't see him going anywhere, but interesting read nonetheless
Marvez: LB London Fletcher won't be afraid to leave the Washington Redskins if he doesn't get the deal he wants - NFL News | FOX Sports on MSN |
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
If we let him go, which I don't think we will, it would have a beyond Antoino Pierce like effect on productivity

I agree, but I've heard the Eagles are interested in him. |

That would break my heart. I think London will stay, I wouldnt be mad at him if he ended up leaving to go to a team where he thinks he can get another crack at a Super Bowl Ring soon... I mean he's gotta fall off at some point... THat being said, I really hope he stays in DC. One of the best guys on the team right now. |
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
London's camp has been hinting at their dissatisfaction with the contract talks for a while now. I think the real issue was the lack of seriousness of talks during the season. I don't think he WILL leave, but I do think the FO has rubbed him the wrong way.
|
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
That writer needs to check his facts, Cullen Jenkins signed with the Eagles. As far as Fletch goes though, I want him back, absolutely. I wish a deal had been done by now but I think this FO knows how big of a priority he is. At least I hope so. If it gets to the point where he signs with another team, this FO deserves all criticism it gets.

Well he's got a new camp now. Fired his agent, according to Jason La Canfora and others |
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
GW is in St. Louis. Fletcher has followed him just about his whole career. I wouldn't be surprised if he looks that way if things don't work out here.
But I think they'll work out here. We've got a ton of cap space, there's no reason we don't get it done with him. |
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
Well he's got a new camp now. Fired his agent, according to Jason La Canfora and others
Yeah I just saw that. London is playing hardball with the Redskins right now, which I don't think they (or anyone) anticipated.
A lot of time for this to get done still, but from Fletcher's perspective, the Redskins had years on years to give him security in exchange for a discount, and they wanted (justifiably) to make sure his body would hold up. |
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
And I'll give the Redskins some credit: this must be a frustrating situation and they have at no point gone public with any of their frustrations.
I still want to see the results though. For every bit of praise that Bruce Allen deserves for being great at writing contracts, I don't know if he'd ever get a free pass on Fletcher going elsewhere and having even just one last strong season. |
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
just get it done, he's irreplacable.

Are we really that desperate that we're calling a 36 year old LB on a 5-11 team irreplacable? As much as I like Fletch, we need to start looking in another direction. Let's get another young guy in there that can go with Riley for the next several years. |
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
He's truly the only good consistent player on this team. Sign him. Give him what he wants he deserves it.
|
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
You can get that other young guy and still keep Fletcher. No young guy is gonna play as well as Fletch right out of the gate so he is very much a necessity. Not to mention that Riley benefits from having a great veteran like Fletch playing right beside him and teaching him the ropes.
|
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
SHOW him the $$$$$.
|
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
At one point he was 11 pro bowl alternates out of 12 years, what a smack in the face that has to be. Anyways, no one better for younger players to be around, he should be kept for that alone.

This is a smart response. |
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
A few tweets from a ES insider.
Jsteelz @Jsteelzextreme Adam, London, Landry, none of them close at this time @LL56_HTTR called it a game of chicken, and thats on point
From various other tweets, seems London is trying to max out on this contract since it'll be his last one. Looking for a Ray Lewis type of deal around 3years/25million. |

could not agree with you any more. london is a must sign, he has shown no signs of aging and isn't prone to injuries, why the hell would we not sign him? because he is older? i look at is a battle tested, i'm not entirely sure but isn't he the only current redskins player with a ring? so if we let him walk we are letting a super bowl champion, and pro bowler(one of our only ones lately) and a guy who has never missed a game in his career just walk out the door cause he is 36? i say sign him to a solid 3 year deal keep him happy let him end his career here and find a guy to shadow his every move for the next 3 years. |

Yes.
We've got a ton of cap space, there's no reason we don't get it done with him.
Agreed. Fletch knows this is his last big contract so he's not gonna get shortchanged. But he doesn't strike me as the type to play hardball. And for the Skins this is no time to nickle-and-dime. Market value or pretty close should get this deal done.
I agree, but I've heard the Eagles are interested in him.
Don't even go there. I'm still sick we let Pierce go to the Giants. |

Actually, he is playing hardball. He fired his agent because he wasn't getting the contract figures he's expecting (think Ray Lewis). Hate the break it to him, but if he's wanting a Ray Lewis type of contract, then somebody needs to drive him to the airport. Salary cap be damned. You don't pay a 36/37 year old aging LB that type of money. In fact, I would LOVE to see him get any type of contract near that on the open market. Not happening. |

Well if that's really the case and he's expecting Ray Lewis money then I agree with you. Whatever offer Fletch gets from another NFL team (unless totally absurd), the Skins should match/beat that offer. |

I agree, he's a $7 million / season kind of guy 3 years 21 mill. is my max contract I'd give him. |
He deserves 3 years 30 M in my book

$6M+ cap hits for 3 years?? Sounds reasonable to me. Especially if we're willing to keep DHall and his $6.8M cap hit. :vomit: |

Fletcher could get between 3/20 and (a backloaded) 3/25 on the open market. I don't think he's going to get $9 mil a year, but he probably can do better elsewhere if he's really just going to look for the biggest contract he can find. |

I dunno..I'd have to say that London is a better athlete than Ray. Ray was a major Liability in coverage for his team this year. London was still good enough to cover TEs and RBs. 2 years ago Ray Lewis was like that. Now Ray Lewis isn't but another good MLB. Londons still Great. I know the term ageless gets tossed around a lot, but London really is ageless, he still is playing the same as he did day 1 here. I still have to say he's the greatest Redskins signing of all time. Even would go as far to say he may be in the top 5 of Greatest skins of all time... |

7 million a year is fine, for a Pro-Bowl MLB. Obviously you wouldn't guarantee the three years -- hard to imagine the ageless wonder playing out the contract at this level. |
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
either we will step up or he will retire a ram.
|
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
They need to keep London! This guy is a team player and a leader of this team. Losing him would be a HUGE loss!
|
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
Guys like London bring so many intangibles to the field. We just don't have anyone else like him to fill those shoes.
