Fletcher to HOF?

I don't see how he won't eventually make it despite never making the pro bowl as anything other than an alternate. Since tackles have been a statistic in 2001, London leads the all time NFL in tackles (beating ray lewis by 266 tackles). Since that time period, he also has more sacks than Ray, and more forced fumbles. He has been great in coverage as he has 18 career picks, he is a great leader/captain, and the cherry on top is he won the walter payton man of the year award. I can't say this for sure, but I'm pretty sure he has always lead his team in tackles every year since he's been in the NFL.

Is he retiring?

I think Fletch will end up with a Hall of Fame career, but he may be overshadowed by Ray Lewis, but who knows.

If your not gonna have a link confirming his retirement then this thread doesnt need to be opened in the first place.

He is going to be another Art Monk when it comes to the Hall Of Fame. He first has to retire.

One of the first stats they are going to look at is number of Pro Bowls. I am willing to bet you won't see a modern era player go into the HOF with only 1 trip to HI.

In 8 years. He'll play 3 more for us!

Re: Fletcher to HOF?

Never said he was retiring, I just saw his stats, it blew my mind and I did some research. Nobody has produced like he has over the time that he has. Ray Ray is the only ILB on his level from a career productivity standpoint that remains in the NFL today.

Was a pro bowl alt every year, except 2. How bout that for a crazy stat. One of the years he wasn't is because he got picked for it:soapbox:

Alt is not something that is not really looked at. Don't shoot the messenger.

The Redskins should pray that London Fletcher plays 3 more years in DC.

However, if that happens and he retires after those three more seasons, your timetable has him as a first ballot Hall of Fame inductee. That is HIGHLY unlikely - - but he will probably get in eventually.

Re: Fletcher to HOF?

I think he gets stuck in the Hall of Very Good. Sportswriters who make the decision often consider if a player was one of the best at their position during their era. I think, fairly or unfairly, he will be ranked below Ray Lewis, Patrick Willis and Brian Urlacher when compared to his peers. Not that I agree with that, but I can easily see that keeping him from the Hall.

Hall of very good!

The plumb-line is whether a team gameplans around an opponent. I don't think any other team gameplans around LF, if truth be told.

Re: Fletcher to HOF?

The fact that he is still a free agent shows the reason he will not make the HOF.

Pro-bowl isn't the defining skill level of a player. DeAngelo Hall was voted in the pro-bowl and was the pro-bowl MVP two years ago, yet he ranked the 3rd worst CB in the league that same year. This is a fan/popularity event.

Now, "All-Pro" is a different story.

I agree, he's good but not HoF material. If he's gonna keep playing in DC he's gonna do it cheap because there is zero interest for him elsewhere.

I just hope he makes it back to the Skins. IMO he is one of the best in the NFL and he could play on any team the Skins have ever had.

Re: Fletcher to HOF?

He should absolutely make the HOF

1) Numbers very similar to Ray Lewis
2) Won a Superbowl
3) Known as one of the best leaders and locker room guys in the NFL today
4) The story of an un drafted guy from a small college who's "too small" to play in the NFL, which leads to...
4) And the biggest reason is his consecutive games played streak. Playing in 224 games in a row at MLB is absolutely incredible.

Ruhskins 03-21-2012 12:35 AM

Not to take anything from Ray Lewis, but I think Fletch has never had the same defensive supporting cast that Ray always had in Baltimore. Yet Fletch has managed to have comparable stats.

You know, I actually think it could be Urlacher who keeps him out. I could see him getting in as the second best MLB of his era, but being viewed as the 3rd would be a big problem (Willis is a lot younger, so I think he's kind of a different era player).

Doesn't matter. A 1 time Pro Bowl alternate will not be in the HOF unless something DRASTICALLY changes. Don't shoot the messenger.

sure why not. hes been dominant his whole career he just never had the most talent around him... like a ray lewis. i say Fletch for HOF his career consistency and league leading efforts year after year make him AT LEAST on the ballot.

Re: Fletcher to HOF?

Yes HOF. IMO. Probably the most underrated LB I've seen. Any time you see an athlete able to compete at his level at his age with athletes in their primes is because he really is that great. Not a really good LB - a great LB HOF.

Meks 03-22-2012 12:18 AM

Re: Fletcher to HOF?

The guy leads the league or top 5 in tackles nearly every year in recent memory...
IMO it would be one.of the biggest snubs of all time

imaskin4life 03-22-2012 12:23 AM

Re: Fletcher to HOF?

Also, among active players (all positions) he second in the league in consecutive starts -- and he plays LINEBACKER! Think of all the tackles he made, the blocks he had to shed, the collisions, the players he concussed--there is a lot of contact at that position. Just to last that long, especially at LB is special. He not only lasted, he thriving --the man led the league in tackles last year at age 83! HOF.

BabyLuku 03-22-2012 05:32 AM

Re: Fletcher to HOF?

If they look at him fairly and don't try to look for something negative (such as pro bowls) just to discount him, I don't see how he doesn't make it.
Most think he's a great lb but even that is underrating him, this guy is one of the best tacklers, ilb players, and defensive leaders of all time in my opinion.

No, just you were wrong. Matty is right.

Has been named a Pro Bowl Alternate eleven times. He made his first Pro Bowl after the 2009 season via replacing Jonathan Vilma, due to prepping for the Super Bowl.

Also played in 2010 and 2011.

The source quoted says 2009 & 2010. It does not say 2011. I have to be honest, I so didn't pay any attention at all to the 2011 pro bowl, so I have no personal knowledge.

I do see a conflict though. Wiki says he was also on the 2011 team as an alternate.

I don't see him making it. He has a tremendous body of work, but was never the best at his position.

No first team all pros, no defensive mvps, not enough probowls. He's an amazing player that was always among the best, but that doesn't get you in the hall.

Re: Fletcher to HOF?

I think Fletcher is one of those good but never great players. He has a solid career but I don't think he's a HOF
