Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
I know it's been discussed in other threads but new signings get new threads so....

Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
At what point are we over quota on Griffins?
Next signing, Peter Griffin? |
Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
I hope Raheem Morris can help him, it doesn't bode well that Leslie Frazier couldn't.

Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
Guessing that means no Aaron Ross.
|
Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
I like this signing. He came cheap (2.5M) and could be a high reward player for little risk. There's a chance he's still not completely healthy, but we'll see.
|
Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
Ross is still coming in to visit. Not totally out of the realm of possibility they sign both.
I know two current DBs are barely holding onto their Redskins jerseys Also, Griffin could play safety |
Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
He's an experienced body for the secondary who is better than Byron Westbrook.
|
Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
The signing isn't official. He supposedly hasn't put pen to paper, and after Eddie Royal I think we all should wait for more than just the WP to report it as an official signing.

Wrong. We still are having Aaron come in and visit today. He lands this afternoon. But it could mean no DHall. Also as others have mentioned Griffin was looked at as a possible FS. |
Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
That's why I said guess.

Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
Daseal, did we really give Cedric Griffin $2.5 million? I haven't seen it reported anywhere, so that's why I ask.
Philip Buchanon had one really good year here, and Griffin is at the same point of his career that PB was when he had that career, so this seem like classic bargain hunting. |
Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
Nothing wrong with this deal. He competes for a job and we see what happens. If he's healthy again and in shape, he might be able to help us.
|
Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
Gtripp,
According to multiple twitter sources, I'm seeing 2.5M. Could be wrong. John Keim @john_keim Reply Retweet Favorite · Open per @RavensInsider Griffin signed a 1-year, $2.5 mill deal. Bring to camp, see what he's got. low risk. has helpful skills. #Redskins |
He adds more help I suppose
|
Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
Brings more competition.
|
Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
C Griffin is horrible
|
Ilk admit some signings I'm not happy about but dang some of u just trash everyone we bring in. Well who else we gonna sign at the position? Griffin isn't great but he's not the worst either.

he's close |
Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
Take him to camp and see what he's got. No harm in that.

its good depth if nothing else. of course i wouldve liked to go out and sign brandon carr to a deal but we dont have the money. we are making smart signings. theres no risk in this |
Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
Some folks seem to think that CGriffin and Ross are signings for starters and criticize the deals on that basis. IMO we are signing one or both of them as #3-#4 corners.
|
Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
Yeah, nothing to get into a lather about here. Low risk depth signing.
|
Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
Cedric Griffin has two torn ACLs the last two years. He's definitely prone to injury. But there's not much difference between he and Fred Smoot when it comes to ability, I'm afraid.

That's not very reassuring. I hope he doesn't make it out of training camp honestly. |
Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
I'm fine with bringing in a cheap player that can play both CB and Safety. No harm in this signing unless you stop looking to improve.

i hope he does, and is able to bounce back and able to contribute for such a low price. |
Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
We got Terry Allen from Vikes after two ACL's and he came here and rushed for 1,300 yds and 10 Td's. Stranger things have happened.
We need 6-foot, 190-pound Aaron Ross and throw in Eric Winston. |

Rather use a draft pick on a DB. |
Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
Aaron Ross Aaron Ross Aaron Ross!
|
Aaron Ross Aaron Ross Aaron Ross!
Did we sign him? Obviously, I'm too lazy to look for myself. |
Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
2.5 million is a lot to pay for this guy; we need the help, but I can't help thinking there are unsigned, undrafted players out there with a lot of upside who have two fully functional knees and who wouldn't command $2.5 million.

No... :( I just want us to. |

Can't be any worse at SS/FS than Reed (The Witness) Douty, or DeJon (They're Gone, Gone) Gomes. |
Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
As long as we get the other Griffin too, I'm OK with this... he had a pretty decent year last year, despite recovering from the ACLs. I don't think this rules out of the Ross market either, even though I think he (Griffin) is a better CB.

Very true! I'll give Gomes the benefit of the doubt, he was only 21 years old. |
Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
The Montgomery restructure and Griffin deal create a net cap difference of virtually zero. If you want the math, it's:
cap = 6.5 million - 2.5 mil (player salary) + 390k (r51) + 2.06 (Monty restructure) = 6.45 million That 6.5 was a rough estimate, but the work shows how today the Redskins didn't change their cap position in 2012 (and only slightly in 2013). |

No D Hall I would say is a probability at this point. De angelo had some nice picks, but his mouth and soft coverage is detrimental. I like what we are doing in FA thus far. Very nice. I still wish we didn't have to break the draft bank for RG III. Using FA and the draft to build would have sped our rebuilding up. It might be not til 2014 til we are really ready to tear up the NFC East. |
Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
Griffin sure looked like crap in that youtube video on the free agent thread. No way is this guy a potential started of anything....we need a legit #3 corner and #2 safety.
But I am way more concerned with Fletcher and oline....we can arguably support the oline with mid round picks, but we are likely running out of cash for free agents |
