I say we trade 2015 and 2016's first rounders for Matt Forte. Or is he already a Patriot (according to incarceratedbob)?

I think they might be waiting for a resolution on this cap thing before they try to bring back Fletch. If that's not the case, then idk.

What do you guys think about them planning to re-sign Hightower? Is he still the starter? How will the carries be distributed between Hightower, Helu and Royster. Do you think they'll draft another RB in the later rounds?

I think we resign Hightower and he remains the lead back (and a vital key on third downs). I also think we'll get some UDFAs or 7th round RBs.
Shanahan plans to have five or six running backs on the roster entering training camp this summer, he said. Roy Helu and Evan Royster capably replaced Hightower last season as rookies. Tailback Tristan Davis is on the roster after finishing last season on the practice squad.
Looks like we're drafting one or two backs this year.

LaMichael James? Terrance Ganaway? Chris Rainey? Jeff Demps? Doug Martin? Lamar Miller? David Wilson?
LaMichael James? Terrance Ganaway? Chris Rainey? Jeff Demps? Doug Martin? Lamar Miller? David Wilson?
None of those guys except Demps or Rainey. If we get a RB it will be one of the guys I mentioned here.
Vick Ballard of Mississippi State and Edwin Baker of Michigan State grade out similarly to Helu. Decent vision, good speed, similar pre-draft grade.

Obviously Shanahan might not be looking for the next Roy Helu exactly but those two seem like candidates.

Other mid-round guys to look out for due to above average vision and one-cut run ability:

Chris Rainey - Florida

Ronnie Hillman - San Diego State

Lennon Creer - Louisiana Tech

And the highest rated vision among potential Shanahan Backs

Tauren Poole - Tennessee

The following backs all are reported to have very good vision but are considered a risk to go undrafted. All are falling due to durability concerns. Shanahan has picked guys graded in this range before (Royster and Torain)

Jonas Gray - Notre Dame

Jeff Demps - Florida

Jewel Hampton - Southern Illinois

Bryce Brown - Kansas State

In short anyone from Florida should make us happy as should a certain back from Tennessee.
If Hightower is healthy hell yeah you bring him back. He runs very hard and is good all around. Helu makes a great change of pace back in this scenario. If Hightower has lost a step because of the knee injury I think we have to add another starter to the roster.

I'm not confident in Royster. He strikes me as a backup.

...even w/ a healthy Hightower or other legit starter added to the roster I'd like to see Helu get equal carries. Helu has the potential to be very very good. When I watched him (live) in Seattle last year I saw him do some things you just don't see every Sunday.

For practical reasons I don't think that we can draft Rainey. His ego is too big to physically fit into the locker room.

Shanny is genius when it comes to RBs. If we draft one or two later late rounds or sign UFA rookie and then one of them plays well enough, then we can trade Royster for maybe 4th round pick or something. I would say that we also could trade Helu or Hightower, but I absolutely love them both and I would hate to see them go but if one of them gets us 3rd round pick or whatever then I could see Shanny pulling the trigger.

Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency (and Trades) Tracker (Verse II)

I am very happy that they have decided to resign hightower. Each of our running back had something to bring last year
Helu- great all around back with straight line speed
Royster- great 3rd down change of pace and can cut back
Hightower- Power back that can cut hopefully he heals fully

I hope the draft Chris Rainey or LaMichael James either player brings that Reggie Bush/ Darren Sproles style of play.- Homerun threat.

Especially if we draft LaMichael James in the 3rd round. James isn't an every down back. He's Darren Sproles 2.0

I want us to draft Mychal Kendricks in the third round. I hope its not a running back. I am looking for an LB, a FS, and a CB. Something like this:

3rd Mychal Kendricks LB
4th Markelle Martin FS
4th Asa jackson CB

I never said that we should trade one of our RB, in order to draft other. That does not make any sense at all. What I am saying is that we all know how Shanny always manage to come up with good RBs. So if we happen to draft a RB or sign UFA rookie this year, and then the player plays well enough, which will give us an opportunity to trade one of our RBs for whatever round pick for 2013, not so we could draft another RB but to draft a player for whichever position that we need the most such as O-line or ILB or CB.

To clarify where I stand in this idea, I do not like the idea of Redskins drafting another RB this year. However, I am all for signing UFA rookies. Just because I do not like the idea, it does not mean I cannot see what scenarios from drafting or signing UFA RBs could present for Redskins FO.

Lol, but the way the committee is set up he'll need to be on his best behavior to get playing time. Plus his character issues will allow him to be had possibly as late as the middle of day 3.

I think he has the talent, but lacks the durability to be a starter. I think if you put him out there as a 22+ carry a game back for the duration of the season, he isn't going to last.

EARTHQUAKE2689 03-29-2012 02:10 PM

Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency (and Trades) Tracker (Verse II)

^ How does he lack durability? One injury? He's carried the ball 20+ times for us already. Ryan Torain had durability concerns. Roy Helu, not so much.

Roy helu has had durability concerns since college. He had four games of 20+ carrys not 16. Torain's durability issues are one reason why I don't want to push this kid. I think he has the talent, but I'd rather have a committee backfield.

Show me where he had durability concerns in college. Being durable was one of his strengths.

Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency (and Trades) Tracker (Verse II)

Start Helu or Hightower (if healthy), either way is fine by me. More importantly, determine number of carries by performance game to game. If one is running lights out give him 20+ carries...and in all likelihood the other guy will be fresher next week. I don't see any positives to running one guy into the ground.

...so yeah make it a committee like others have said.
