This is already being discussed in another thread (multiple threads actually), but I know people will miss it and then complain that it was too easy to miss....

*Sigh* Torrence.

I know SS said he's decent but I think he stinks. Hah, I mean I feel like he's like Doughty, good to fill in, just in case we have injuries or need him for special teams, but probably shouldn't EVER be starting.

Edit: Not that they were planning on him to start.

Okay, I just don't like the guy. I have a vendetta. At least I'm honest. >P

Maybe this has been addressed in other threads, but...

Are they sitting on signing Fletcher back? or is there some other reason (cap space, etc etc) that they seem to be not trying to jump on this?

I drank with Leigh Torrence's dad in the parking lot before the HOF game the year Monk and Green were inducted, so he always has a special place in my heart.

They are decent stopgaps for the 2012 season and will be replaced shortly thereafter.

Fletcher wants 6mil per for 3yrs and that is not a cap friendly # or realistic for a 37yr old lb. I heard the skins offered around 4mil. If the market settles & he doesn't get anybody too bite for his # then he'll be back, if not its better to let him go one yr early than too late.

Agree we are normally known for holding on to most aging players to long (I want Fletcher back but at the right price). A player his age & who plays his position normally signs 1yr deals.

Really unpopular to say, but very true. Short term it would be a major blow to lose him, but at some point age will catch up to him and I'd hate for it to be year 2 of a 3 year deal we are locked into.

That's what frustrates me about putting all our eggs in the Garcon basket. Who thinks Garcon will be more valuable to the offense over the next 2-3 years than London will be to the defense?

Fletch just needs to sign a one year deal and retire a Skin. We are trying to get a youth movement here so we can become winners again. The Red Wings hold onto certain guys forever til they decide to retire on their own. It is a nice sentiment and for the most part worked til the past few seasons. Predators are probably going to eliminate them in the first round this year. They should have done the unthinkable and traded Lidstrom way back when. Anyways, I like Fletch, but he is not the future. I could see us draft a MLB in the mid rounds this year or next.

At Fletcher's age his production could fall off very fast and sudden. Who knows if he's even playing in 2 or 3 years.

I put my money on Torrance, he can play ST and doesn't bet an Olympian 100k challenging him to a race. I hope they drop Hall soon.

I see. So Torrence isn't competitive. This does not bode well for his chances of making the team. He better issue an unsolicited challenge to an olympian soon or he'll be back on the street.

Hall is a big mouth who can't back up shit, with Torrance you know what you get and has actually gotten better in coverage and you know he can play ST well.

Trust me I didn't like Torrence, and your right he sucked, but some play better in different situations. Funny that he went to the Saints and played better there then he did here. Didn't he record a few INT's? I don't know why I'm thinking he did against us but I'm most likely wrong. Who knows maybe he plays better in a 3-4?

I agree. Offer him a 1 year deal after that if he's still putting up the same numbers, but if he's not I could see him retiring a redskin and hopefully taking up a position on the coaching staff

Difference is, we offered Royal a contract and at one point thought he was signed.

The Redskins are clearly not confident in Kevin Barnes. The things I like about Barnes besides him being a former Terp is he shows lots of hustle. What I don't like about Barnes is that he struggles in coverage.

At least we'll see Torrence and Barnes compete in preseason for the nickle back position.

As for Madieu Williams is another former Terripin. I'd be more comfortable seeing him starting @ SS instead of Meriweather.

Torrence signing brings really no value other than a body to camp. B Thompson has more value at this point.

Interesting on the the Skins' website when listing positions for players, they have Meriweather as FS and C Griffin listed as CB. Torrence and B Thompson have the ambiguous DB title and Reed and Gomes are just S not SS. Meriweather is the only listed FS on the roster, M Williams hasnt been listed yet...Of course this is nothing set in stone, but may be an initial indication of what their thinking is.
