Re: Alfred Morris pick 6.3
Notes:
Played on both sides of the ball as a Florida prep. Redshirted in 2007. Saw action in 11 games as a backup running back and special-teams player in ’08, rushing seven times for 23 yards (3.2-yard average) and no touchdowns and making 10 tackles on special teams. Won the Sun Belt Conference rushing title in ’09 after gaining 263-1,392-11 (5.3) in 12 starts. Also caught seven passes for 114 passes (16.3-yard average) and two touchdowns. Played with a sprained left ankle. Posted 227-928-7 (4.1) rushing and 8-47-1 (5.9) receiving in 12 starts in ’10. Missed most of ’11 spring practice with a strained lower back. On the season, started all 12 games and toted 236-1,186-9 (5.0) with 15-139-1 (9.3) receiving. Finished his career as FAU’s leader in rushing yards (3,529), carries (733), rushing TDs (27), rushing yards per game (75.1) and all-purpose yards (3,843). Also the first running back in Howard Schnellenberger’s 27 years as a head coach to produce two 1,000-yard seasons. Fumbled 16 times in 762 career touches and gained 4.8 yards per carry. Positives: Well-built with a strong lower body (squats 600 pounds). Very good balance and vision. Runs with good forward lean. Large hands. Effective inside runner. Lowers his shoulder and churns through contact. Willing, physical blocker. Praised for his special-teams ability as a young player. Is tough and will play through pain. Very good blocker. Exceptional personal and football character. Accountable, vocal leader. Solid showing at the East-West Shrine Game. Negatives: Has an odd build — short but high-cut. Needs to continue bulking up. Bench-pressed 225 pounds only 16 times at the Combine. Below-average speed for a running back. Tight-hipped and straight-linish. Limited foot quickness and elusiveness. Ball security has been an issue (fumbled at least five times each of the past three seasons). Minimal receiving production. Did not face top competition in the Sun Belt Conference. Summary: Highly competitive, smart, motivated, productive, college running back lacking the speed and agility to remain there in the pros. Physical, inside, north-south running style, willingness as a blocker and strong intangibles make him ripe for a conversion to fullback. Has played both positions and could get looks for a team that employs one-back power sets. Re: Alfred Morris pick 6.3
I think MS said he will play HB.
|
Re: Alfred Morris pick 6.3
He's probably a fullback going forward. Not bad
|
Re: Alfred Morris pick 6.3
Sounds good. Our backfield was lacking a classic power runner especially with Torain basically falling off a cliff. Plus with the Eagles and their "amazing" wide 9 defense, always good to know you might have someone that can run over their finesse guys.
I know a lot of people wanted Lamar Miller but from my understanding Miller is a speed back and with Helu on the roster getting him might have been a bit redundant provided the front office didn't believe that he (Miller) would be the type of guy getting 1,500+ yards a year. I made the comparison before to the 2008 Giants: Ward = Helu Jr Bradshaw = Royster Morris = Jacobs Nice combination of speed, power, and all around ability. Especially with RG3 on the team the Skins should be top 5 in rushing, especially now that they have depth along the offensive line. |
Re: Alfred Morris pick 6.3
Don't get his one, but it's a 6th rd pick so whatevs.
|
Re: Alfred Morris pick 6.3
you can trust a rb who doesn't wear gloves

One of the best things to do to the wide 9 is gash it up the middle. |

3rd ranked FB prospect according to PFW

Zac Boyer @ZacBoyer Reply Retweet Favorite · Open #Redskins' Shanahan: Linebacker Keenan Robinson will play inside. Alfred Morris will be a running back, not fullback. |

The wide 9 is kind of like communism. Great in theory, terrible in real life. |

Communism's theory is flawed because it does not do justice to how the species homo sapiens actually behaves in reality. Rather, it ignores human psychology completely. |
Re: Alfred Morris pick 6.3
I've read lots of good articles on this guy.... sounds like he is a powerfull runner who can be used at both HB and FB
|
Re: Alfred Morris pick 6.3
does he play special teams? rb/fb/st?

i really like his style

Re: Alfred Morris pick 6.3
I just watched highlights of this kid on youtube. He reminds me of Ricky Ervins and Thomas Jones. He's going to be effective in our backfield.
|
Re: Alfred Morris pick 6.3
Can't say I know all that much about him...but I'm not one to question any RB that Mike Shanahan selects
|
Re: Alfred Morris pick 6.3
i really like his style
[YT]J7PIvsSRkEw[/YT]
me too. he's a big guy but he's got balance and wiggle to him. makes me think of a poor man's Bus. |
Re: Alfred Morris pick 6.3
6th round pick and in our system, all RBs Shanahan pick seem to do well. So I like the pick & he'll be good in our rotation with Helu/?Hightower.
But (1) He's not a big guy (5'11" - 219 - BJacobs was 6'4" - 260), (2) He needs to work on his bench, (3) fumbling every 47 touches is a concern. But for a 6th round pick, he'll be fine for the timeshare of the RB by committee. |
Re: Alfred Morris pick 6.3
This guy has earned the starting job. I love how he runs hard and with no wasted motion. He's a football player folks and come Sep 9th I want to see this guy wrecking havoc as our featured back.
|
Re: Alfred Morris pick 6.3
Good timing on the Morris thread bump.
So far he looks like a grinder who just flat moves the chains. Knowing Mike likes a committee and RB I hope the other guys learn to fall forward like Morris. |
Re: Alfred Morris pick 6.3
If Royster, Helu are injured and Hightower is not 100%...its a no-brainer, Shanny needs to start Alf in New Orleans.
|
Re: Alfred Morris pick 6.3
Royster will probably still start week 1, but I'm sure Morris will be in the mix all year long.

He said he wants to go by Alfmo. |
Re: Alfred Morris pick 6.3
Stud.
|
Re: Alfred Morris pick 6.3
I picked Alfmo up as my last player in a fantasy draft. He looked like a beast against the Colts... but we're talking about the Colts. I think we looked as lost as they did our first 34 season. I hope he does well and wasn't just the benefactor of a confused D.
|
Re: Alfred Morris pick 6.3
I drafted him with the last pick in both of my drafts as well. Everyone said "WHO?"
I just laughed and said, the starter, that's who. |
Re: Alfred Morris pick 6.3
Morris is capable of starting the entire season. When the QB hands off the rock to him, all he does is rumble for chunks of yardage. The Redskins scouting department did a great job in scouting this kid. He's definite steal as a 6th round draft selection.

Re: Alfred Morris pick 6.3
Grabbed him off waivers a couple weeks ago, and also just added Slaton. Don't think slaton will be starting anytime soon by any means, but he's certainly talented. I think starting Morris at RB against the saints would be a great move for the Redskins; he's looked far better than Royster this preseason. Sounds like Helu's a bit beat up still also (although he looked good against a terrible bucs backup defense)
|
Re: Alfred Morris pick 6.3
Likely Morris will start if Shanahan is being mum and Hightower was cut.

I still say Royster

Sure. Maybe it's the reason for changing his jersey to #22. He's about to go primetime. |
Re: Alfred Morris pick 6.3
Not that it matters much either way. It's likely a 3 headed monster at RB all year.

Ah, the old Penn State number, as opposed to 24 his high school number. Both look better than 35 |

2nd that. You can't overvalue character. That's the kid who becomes a leader like London Fletcher in 10 years. And if your smart enough to hold onto him the whole 10+ years you probably go to the Superbowl somewhere in there. London deserves another Superbowl. Sounds like A Morris has that kind of character. Can't think of a better reason to chat with his bro. |

I think if he can stay healthy this is his job all year. I could be totally wrong, but that kid runs the hardest of all the guys we have. |
