just saw this on yahoo, a damn shame. He had a rough 3 year battle with cancer and unfortunately cancer has a pretty high win/loss record. The Beastie Boys were always a band I would have loved to have seen live. RIP

This is so sad. Not only was he a fine musician, he also was a stalwart in the cause to bring human rights to Tibetans. The world lost a good man too soon.

R.I.P. Adam Yauch. Cancer claims another one. At least he made a good impact while he was here though.

I saw those guys at Lollapolluza in 1995. Awesome live act and maybe the best I have ever seen.

I love the BBoys. Grew up to them and I remember watching "Fight for you right to Party" video on a Sat Morning video show that aired on NBC back in the 80s. I was a little dude back then, but as I grew up I wanted to be one of them so bad.

Anyway Via Condios Adam, see you up there one day.

I love the Beastie Boys and wished the current rap generation followed their lead in being innovative and creative. Sadly they are not.

RIP Adam.

take the tracks he rapped on, trash those, get new tracks, put his vocals on them so he sounds off beat, done

I remember listening to the Beastie Boys' anthology CD, The Sound Of Science, throughout the summer after high school when I had a job cutting grass. I seriously thought I was gonna burn a hole through both of those discs.
RIP MCA!

Also, I'd like to send a big "**** You" to cancer!

As a kid, I was never a big fan of the Beastie Boys. I respected the hell out of them and enjoyed what they put out there, but never got real big into them.

Flash forward to a few months ago. I hadn't thought twice about them for many years. Then I was flipping around late night TV and saw this:

[yt]WdgLMslbDuY[/yt]

And it really became clear to me how genius they really were. Then when MCA passed, I went back and started listening to them again with fresh ears and eyes. I guess I really didn't understand until now...It's a shame it took MCA to pass for me to get hooked.

Lyrically, I really don't think there ever was a better hip hop song than this. Language NSFW.

nice to see all the love on here for the BBoys.
Paul's Boutique is a masterpiece, Check Your Head and Ill Communication are right behind it... and their latest/last one is my 4th favorite.

RIP MCA

To the 5 Boroughs is under rated. Check Your Head is alot tighter than they get credit for...

yea, i need to revisit 5 Boroughs for sure.

and for some reason i never liked Hello Nasty that much.... just a bit too robotic...

I know Paul's Boutique is viewed as their masterpiece, but my personal fav is Check Your Head. After that it all depends on what I'm in the mood for. I usually just hit shuffle on my BB playlist, which includes all of their stuff, and go from there.

Paul's Boutique had the hits that put them on the map but I wholeheartedly agree, Check Your Head and Ill Communication were musically and lyrically much better.

Hello Nasty wasn't as great as those other two, from a top to bottom standpoint. But there are two songs on there, Body Movin' and The Move, that are both some of the best songs they've ever done.

Man I'm going to miss them.

yeah...gotta agree with Hello Nasty. I still like several tracks on it, but as a complete album, not great. i remember traveling to Maine in college blasting the f*ck outta it though. Thats the thing with Beasties, when you think back on their music, its all about a good time. Pauls, Check Your Head, Ill Communication...those are party albums
