RGIII Ready to Report (Signs Deal)
So various sources I believe have now confirmed what I mentioned in another thread so it's worth its own thread.
Deal is done, don't know the details yet |
Sweet!
|
Very worthy of its own thread so I will post the tweet from RGIII:

Re: RGIII Ready to Report (Signs Deal)
Skins had zero leverage in all of this really
|
Re: RGIII Ready to Report (Signs Deal)
He probably signed because I was wearing my adidas 'RGIII' shirt last night.

Re: RGIII Ready to Report (Signs Deal)
So last night I was told RGIII would sign by Noon today, turned out to be much sooner and that LeRibeus will most likely be done by end of day tomorrow. Guess we'll see
|
Re: RGIII Ready to Report (Signs Deal)
Good. This will help Griffin to compete for the backup job behind Crompton.

True. Perhaps the FO made the determination that the precedent it was setting would not necessarily govern the vast majority of future contracts it expects to negotiate (I'm a lawyer so am always focused on whether prior precedent is actually on point). Does anyone know whether offset language is typically (or has ever been) included in the contracts of non-rookie free agents? |

The cynic in me wants to say that RGIII was waiting till after the release of the Adidas ad to sign. Of course, maybe he didn't want to be distracted once at camp, and it did give Cousins a couple of alone days with the coaches, so all in all I am sure it's all good. |
Re: RGIII Ready to Report (Signs Deal)
Redskins signed No. 2 overall pick Robert Griffin III to a four-year, $21.119 million contract.
The deal is fully guaranteed, includes a $13.7 million signing bonus, has a team option for a fifth year and contains no offset language. Robert Griffin III - Washington Redskins - 2012 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com |
Re: RGIII Ready to Report (Signs Deal)
Well I awoke to good news this morning!
Who the hell does this LeRebius guy think he is?!? He still hasn't signed, before our first rounder! I know his deal is supposed to get done soon, but still. |
Re: RGIII Ready to Report (Signs Deal)
what would the salary be in the optional 5th year?
|
what would the salary be in the optional 5th year?
I'd have to assume it'd be expensive, thus giving reason to draft and sign an extension. |

I like the way you think. I'm glad a deal finally got done. |

Top 10 $$ for his position |

alot cheaper than using the franchise tag. still, i cant remember a good QB ever playing a season under the tag. |
Re: RGIII Ready to Report (Signs Deal)
And later tonight JLac will be reporting this news for the first time..

Michael Vick last year. Peyton Manning had one but didn't play last year. They tried to tag Brees this year. Cassel in 2009. The franchise tag was actually designed specifically for QBs, but now teams use it for any positional player they want to trap for a year without a long-term deal. It's good, guaranteed money for the player but very high risk if they get hurt while tagged. No risk for the team other than a year of cash. |

Vick, Brees, and Cassel both got new deals without actually playing under the tag. My point was that teams always seem to workout a long-term deal with a franchise quarterback before the season starts. |
Re: RGIII Ready to Report (Signs Deal)
And I'm sure the same thing would happen with RG3. If he's real deal he'll likely have a new contract after year 3.
|

Basically all the teams 1-8 had no leverage once Kuechley(sp?) got no offset. |

Agreed...We're not known as a thrifty team that tries to put the screws to its players. As everyone loves to point out we constantly shell out money to get players and keep them happy. The last time we tried to make a big-time budget decision (Pierce) we got killed by fans and media for letting a guy go. |

Awesome picture but what exactly was going on, a full-pads long jump contest?

Re: RGIII Ready to Report (Signs Deal)
Believe that was for one of the card companies.
