Redskins Add Another Offensive Lineman (Chris Campbell)...Everyone Rejoices

They also cut WR Darius Hanks, who was going to miss this season anyway |
Re: Redskins Add Another Offensive Lineman (Chris Campbell)...Everyone Rejoices
Can anyone confirm which team Willie Smith played with last week? Was it the 3rd team?
|
Re: Redskins Add Another Offensive Lineman (Chris Campbell)...Everyone Rejoices
What? WHO IS THIS NO NAME? This is completely unacceptable because his name is not recognized.
Now that crap is out of the way, I'm cool with bringing in as much competition on the OL as we can. I still worry about our depth at the OL. I think our starters will be ok. |
Re: Redskins Add Another Offensive Lineman (Chris Campbell)...Everyone Rejoices
I find it quite disturbing that both wikipedia pages for Nick McDonald and Chris Campbell show them on stationary bikes... Not a good sign.

I was about to ask, when the hell did Willie get cut...lol Took me a second for it to register what you were talking about. |

Silverblunt probably not playing this week with the ankle, City of Compton starting? RG3 better have his head on a swivel. Why has Willie Smith struggled so much? |

I am with you. I was expecting him to have a break out season based off of how he looked during the last 4 games of last season. Not sure whats going on. Hogsnation noted at the start of camp that he has put on 20 lbs. I was hoping it was muscle but maybe he was lazy during the offseason? |
Re: Redskins Add Another Offensive Lineman (Chris Campbell)...Everyone Rejoices
I'm assuming that if we can get by this year with what we have, that the line will be the focus of next offseason. We (hopefully) fixed the WR corps and now it's time to concentrate solely on offensive line and maybe the secondary. Second round picks on offensive line can most definitely go on to perform very well.
|
Re: Redskins Add Another Offensive Lineman (Chris Campbell)...Everyone Rejoices
Sounds like a camp body to make it through this week of practice most likely.

Yeah, I'd have to imagine that is the strategy as well. |
Re: Redskins Add Another Offensive Lineman (Chris Campbell)...Everyone Rejoices
campbell's stats (40, weight etc) are good, no idea if he can actually play.
as far of next offseason, BC and co already said they'd be going after a RT and CB (when they saw a better FA class looking ahead), and that they looked this year and just didn't see anyone (and the lack of bodies drove up the contracts on what was available). |

The Zen master says, "You can't have enough camp bodies unless you have enough camp bodies."

Re: Redskins Add Another Offensive Lineman (Chris Campbell)...Everyone Rejoices
Great now we have to many lineman. Stupid front office.

I'm pretty sure the knock on Smith, and the reason he was an undrafted free agent, was that he has lazy tendencies that led to inconsistances. Sometimes looked liked an all American and others looked completely out of place. |

Re: Redskins Add Another Offensive Lineman (Chris Campbell)...Everyone Rejoices
A few people have asked about Willie Smith. Well, he’s not in anyone’s doghouse. He just hasn’t been good enough to move past those ahead of him. Starting three games last year (and playing in four) didn’t mean he’d automatically improve. Sometimes players stay the same, even with experience (See: Heyer, Stephon). Anyway, Smith had some rough moments today. One occurred vs. Ryan Kerrigan; no shame in that. But it’s also the sort of player he must stop if he wants to win a job. More on Kerrigan in a minute. But Chris Wilson also beat Smith a few times. Wilson is a backup trying to win a roster spot. He’s had a good camp, too, and I’ve always enjoyed him. However, if Smith wants to contend for a starting job he needs to stop this sort of player. Period. Wilson popped into Smith’s shoulder pads on a play and stood him up. A quick throw prevented any real pressure. On the next play Wilson caught Smith leaning over too low after they engaged. Wilson jerked him to the side.

Re: Redskins Add Another Offensive Lineman (Chris Campbell)...Everyone Rejoices
John Keim read my mind bout Smith, but I think to his point, people were expecting him to take a step up...apparently its more like a step back which is disappointing, but thats what you get if you depend on udfas.
I like the blurp Keim gives on Briscoe. I feel Dezmon Briscoe could make the team over AA, Alderidge, Austin, and Banks if given the chance. Last year he was the go to redzone target in Tampa, which is a highly valued skill. Thats a skill we could use with the trouble we've had in the past. |
Re: Redskins Add Another Offensive Lineman (Chris Campbell)...Everyone Rejoices
Perhaps a case of fans expecting too much too soon from Smith. Hopefully he can make the team and continue to develop.
|
Re: Redskins Add Another Offensive Lineman (Chris Campbell)...Everyone Rejoices
I'd be stunned if Briscoe isn't the #5 WR

Insider knowledge or gut feeling? I have a feeling he ends up #5 also... Too much talent to let go. |

Re: Redskins Add Another Offensive Lineman (Chris Campbell)...Everyone Rejoices
I'm lost as to what he thinks fans were expecting in regards to Smith?
And I wonder which position is he talking about LT/RT and who are the people ahead of him? I remember that Smith got banged up last week or a couple weeks ago. I respect John Keim but I don't consider Smith getting beat in practice by Kerrigan and Wilson reason enough to explain why he isn't at least in competition for the back-up LT spot. I'm sure every OL has been beat more then a few times in practice. If Smith is healthy, I expect him to play around the same level he played last year when he played equally as well at LT as Polumbus played at RT. |

Truth is he was an UDFA and is still a work in progress. |

I should just e-mail Keim because I don't understand his take on Willie Smith and I want to. Imo Smith should be as important a piece of our OL picture as Polumbus. |

Re: Redskins Add Another Offensive Lineman (Chris Campbell)...Everyone Rejoices
Rob Jackson seems to be a monster. Is there any way that we can trade him for a pick given that he is in the last year of his contract (and he'd probably go to a place where he has a better chance to be a starter)?

I've always been a fan of Rob Jackson.
I wish we could have found a way to get him on the field more with Orakpo and Kerrigan. I wonder what his trade value would be? I don't think he plays enough league wide cache. |
Re: Redskins Add Another Offensive Lineman (Chris Campbell)...Everyone Rejoices
If this Chris Campbell can wrestle and play volleyball he can't be all bad. He may be a good player and offer quality depth. Also I'm hoping Compton can show his skills and be an option at RT. Moves well for a RT.
