Saints Players Win Appeal
Per Adam Schefter's tweet:
With Saints winning appeal, suspensions are voided as Roger Goodell doesn't have jurisdiction and Stephen Burbank does. |
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
Wow. Huge news.
Now, about our cap penalty... |
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
Well good, now they won't be so angry and we should have an easy time trouncing them complacent ****s :)
|
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
Does this mean Vilma plays on Sunday???
|
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
^ Yeah thats my only concern is does Will Smith and Vilma play now?
|
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
Will Smith is starting.
Vilma's coming off a couple of knee surgeries so it doesn't matter, he'll be rusty and slow. |

Per ESPN. They playing this week? |
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
So this has no impact on Payton's (and Vitt's) suspension? Interesting that the players will be cleared but the coach has to sit out an entire year...

Did the coaches appeal? |
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
starting to unravel.......hope we get some $$$$ back, though Im not banking on it.

Guess not... I remember Payton accepting his punishment, seems like a bad call in hindsight. I didn't know if the arbitrator had authority to vacate all suspensions or just those of the players appealing. |
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
Good for them. The league went overboard with these suspensions.
|
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
Adam Schefter:
"With Saints suspensions overturned, players are eligible to play this weekend. Talk about a can of worms being opened on eve of 2012 season." |
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
I'm going to play conspiracy theorist for a second, even though I don't really believe it:
Doesn't it seem weird for the NFL to do come to this decision 2 days before our game against the saints? It seems very similar to the way they hit the Skins with the salary cap penalty right before free agency. |
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
Ha..does kind of make you go hhhmmm.....
|
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
From the article cited above: "A team source previously told Werder that Vilma planned to attend Sunday's season opener against the Washington Redskins, but believed he was at least a week or two from being ready to play because of a knee injury."

However, I doubt these players will contribute a lot due to conditioning issues. |
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
Does the league get to appeal?
|
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
I thought I recall hearing that Vilma was likely going on the PUP list. Not quite sure though
|
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
Saints fans are going berserk with joy.
|
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
Great day for the NFL and particularly the players. This sets a huge precedent that Goodell is not the "Great and Powerful OZ" he makes himself out to be. He is used to being judge, jury and executioner. This decision took a bite out of his role as executioner.

Now lets hope that your cowboys and my redskins can get off the salary cap hit too. |
The timing sucks for us but this a huge victory for those opposed to how much power Goodell had.
|
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
Does this really help them much though? Vilma likely wont play and they may lose a bit of the edge they would have if they felt hard done by once again.
|
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
Seems like a lot going on for the Saints. Maybe too much. :cool-smil
|
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
Not so fast.....,
Panel vacates bounty suspensions | Comcast "The panel said Commissioner Roger Goodell did not have jurisdiction to hear the players' appeals of their punishment for their roles in the New Orleans Saints bounty program that paid cash bonuses for hits that injured opponents." ....and this, "The panel's decision states that Goodell cannot suspend the players for receiving money from a pool that paid for big plays, but he can still suspend the players if he can prove they intended to injure opponents. Players and coaches implicated in the bounty pool have testified under oath in a related federal court case they never intended to injure opposing players." |

He is currently on the Reserve-Suspended List but Saints supposedly consider him putting him on PUP very soon if they feel he can not return from his knee injury. He won't play this week even if he isn't put on PUP. |
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
Did the coaches appeal?
Coaches appealed back in April. Ruling was upheld, not overturned. |
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
I'm not really worried about Vilma. I'm more worried about will smith who has played in the preseason and crushed Brady on a play in one of those games.
|
Honestly Smith isn't any good really
|
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
Hopefully next year fans of other teams will talk about us with the same respect-for-performance with which we talk about the Saints.

That would be real nice!! I cant stand hearing "the Redskins a once proud franchise" if i hear that one more time I'm going to puke. Skins are still a proud franchise. |
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
May be more of a legal question than anything, but will they receive back pay for camp and such? I don't know how it works in the NFL, but I'd want to get my DAMN MONEY!
|
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
As much as I hate Goodell and this entire process, I really cant help but be the conspiracy guy here.
We get slapped with salary cap fines RIGHT before FA and now this BS 2 days before the game. Fishy imo.......... |
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
NFL politics suck red monkey ass.
|
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
League is going to re-suspend them. PFT is already reporting internal memos indicate so.

Yea but only after they get to play us Week 1. :goodjob: |
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
Honestly Smith isn't any good really
The Fresh Prince is still the Saints' best pass rusher. |
Re: Saints Players Win Appeal
If Vilma's been too hurt to play or even really participate in practice- what benefit against the redskins would he provide? He would only be regulated to being a cheerleader on the sidelines anyway.
That's why I'm only worried about Smith because he's been one of their most productive lineman in recent years. |
Now lets hope that your cowboys and my redskins can get off the salary cap hit too.
I think we are just going to have to live with this one. Overturning it will open another can of worms since the Texans had to use the cap credit awarded by the league from the Skins and Boys to just get under the cap before the deadline. Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk 2 |
