This is the kind of effort/selflessness we have lacked for so long. Love it.

I am okay with this stuff as long as it doesn't lead to a much serious injury. One thing is being able to play through pain, but another is risking further injury with these types of decisions. Luckily this seems to be in the former category. Glad to see TW owning to his past mistake and growing up though.

It's the RGIII effect. His awesomeness makes everyone else put forth a better effort.

your comment didn't go over my head, but what pain management options do they have? from what i gather, they can get high on the codeine horse. is that correct?

Presence of Propecia on this list explains the Hasselbecks

ZIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGG!

I agree with the poster above. As long as this isn't something that can become more serious, great. I'd rather a player take an extra week then push it and never quite get healthy. See Orakpo, Brian. Hopefully 1 year will let that pec heal up.

Trent Williams= Iron Man. You have to give him credit for the fortitude that he's shown.

I was a little nervous quite honestly about TW playing on the wet conditions at Tampa last week. Glad he played though

I know Shanahan (Mike) gave a bit of a team lecture last week (which was primarily directed at Garcon, though some believe it may have also been targeted toward guys like Williams too) that players needed to man up and practice and play through pain. If you're injured that's one thing. But if it's just a matter of tolerating the pain, you better get out there on the field.

los panda 10-03-2012 02:25 PM

there's really almost no pain when you're chock-full of codeine

Maybe he rubbed some of this stuff on it:

Wasnt his injury just a bone bruise in his knee? Im sure that it probably hurts really really bad but i dont think he had any significant chance of injury.

LOL, yeah. I think some players were trying the "I'm not healthy enough to practice but I'm healthy enough to play" reasoning. And Shanahan doesn't go for that

Players have been pulling that for ages. I remember stories about Lombardi coming in and, essentially, clearing out the trainers room. To hurt to practice? Then we'll give your roster spot to someone who can. Of course, back in those days, the team would cut as easy as batting an eye if you weren't one of the teams studs.

In related news, Darrel Young told reporters today that he played with cracked ribs on Sunday. Was it CapitalDefense that called him a sissy?

^^ Holy buckets that's serious! I had (badly) bruised ribs once and didn't want to move, let alone play football.

That guy is something else in the game day thread. He seems so pleased to watch our players, coaches struggle.

I played football once with cracked ribs. I shouldn't have played but I really wanted to and it had been a whole week since I cracked my rib so I figured I was fine.

First play of the game. I go over the middle, catch the bull, turn...and I just got destroyed. Absolutely crushed. Never felt so much pain

What a little bitch! After clipping my nails, I regularly type on my office keyboard with an overly trimmed index fingernail. Every try it? That's what real pain is like.

Cracked rib? Psssh. Pussy

Good to hear him owning up to past mistakes and leaning from it. Lots of guys play tjrough pain in this league. If theres no chance of furthering an injury...suit up and show some heart. I promise your team mates will respect you and it makes it harder for them to not do the same. Good example to set Trent. BE a captain bro.

This is what i was thinking. What kind of serious injury can a bone bruise turn into besides a bone bruise? Im thrilled to know that he is biting the bullet Thank you TW.

I won't tell you who the person was...but you can find the answer in the gameday thread. Just multiply Rypien by Griffin, then add Shuler and Theismann...subtract one and you'll find the post with your answer
