Around the NFL...Week 12 Style

DeMarco Murray, Tyron Smith not expected to play on Thanksgiving | ProFootballTalk

Looks like Demarco and Tryron will be out, kinda as we expected

Im a little surprised Harbaugh is quick to name Keapernick the starter:

Jim Harbaugh says San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback will be determined by 'hot hand' between Alex Smith, Colin Kaepernick - ESPN

Keapernick was impressive! I only watched the first half, but the 49ers looked absolutely flawless with him in at QB.

Re: Around the NFL...Week 12 Style

Man, Harbaugh just can't wait to kick Smith to the curb.

I predict that in the not too distant future, Smith will have be the winner of the "Best Back-Up QB In The League" title (A title now vacant due to Campbell's stunningly bad performances these past two weeks).

Poor Campbell, different team, same bruises.

Re: Around the NFL...Week 12 Style

JC played just like he did here so many times. It wasnt just that the 9ers had a great pass rush, but it was his inability to feel the pocket and get rid of the ball in a timely fashion that was the reason why he was beat up last night.

As far as the 9ers it looked as though they changed the offense a little with CK at the helm and were able to incorporate some of the read option stuff that teams have been experimenting with as of late. It took the Bears by surprise and led to the beat down that was handed to them. The defense was off balance all night and looked unprepared.

Re: Around the NFL...Week 12 Style

Campbell had no shot yesterday, none whatsoever.

As for Kaepernick, nice job. Remember he played out of the pistol offense in Nevada.

Greg Roman the 49er's OC is great at adjusting his offense to his QB.

At the risk of "going there" ... isn't that exactly what MS and KS have done with RGIII?

I know some will see this as making excuses for him, it's not I could really care less about the guy now that he's not here. I agree he had no shot.

Chicago's OL got absolutely worked over all night long. A lot of times he had guys hitting him before he could even get set up in the pocket. I'm not sure Cutler would have done much better. SF was on fire right from the start.

Yes. They got worked over and, maybe, Cutler gets the same treatment. At the same time, nothing Campbell has ever done suggests that he is capable of elevating those around him. Campbell has never had pocket awareness and has always had a slow delivery. Campbell on his best day is a solid game manager and nothing more.

SF lit it up. A better QB, however, may have been able to take some of the edge off of them. A mediocre QB like Campbell just was fuel for the flame.

I think 53 meant that with Smith they are more of a dink dunk offense and more of wide open offense with Kaep.

I took it to be that a coach, who has been discussed as a possible replacement for MS, was being praised for adapting his offensive system to the particular talents of the QB at hand. An ability similarly exhibited by our current coaching staff and for which many a poster has failed to give them credit.

At this point, other than a couple of folks, I don't know or care who likes/tolerates/hates MS. Just seems inconsistent to praise one coach for adapting and not do the same for others.

Yup. And I agree that Kyle deserves praise for his adaptivity this year. Our unique "pistol" often works out like an adapted old single wing, with true "quarter-"backs, "half-"backs, and "full-"backs. This allows the team to play to Griff's strengths, develop him slowly, but still be successful offensively. Kyle has done things that no one else is doing and deserves credit for this.

Now if we can just work on Kyle's short-yardage play calling...

i literrally lol at work.

In regards to JC and the Bears...relatively same o-line that protected Cutler and had him in the MVP discussion before he went down last year and that led them to one of the best records in the league this year.

I think Chicago defense much more to blame than JC, but Cutler certainly would have made a difference. I got a feeling we will see JC again this weekend, lets see if we see any improvement...but seriously f*cking doubt it.

Really? I hadn't heard anyone say it was out of line and I am in Baltimore. They're unhappy but its a kind of "grumble grumble" unhappy not a "righteous indiganation" unhappy.

Reed plays hard and lays wood, but the days of launching yourself to cause injury/intimidate are over.

i don't get the leaving your feet and launching anyways.

making a hard hit, while wrapping up, and driving through your target is the way.

I don't know enough about the situation. I know he got the suspension for repeat offenses, but that's about as much as I know about it.

Ed Reed is one of the game's classiest, cleanest players so it's hard not to think there is some sort of example being made of him

Well Reed didn't launch himself into the wr at all. The ball was thrown behind the wr, the wr had sort of ducked down a bit and Reed hit the guy. The guys on ESPN were killing the league/ Ray Anderson over it and it was well deserved. Anderson was on Mike and Mike and seemed to be awfully arrogant about it.

The hard hitters of the league are always balancing a fine line. Reed isn't dirty. But I can see where some of his hits are seen as crossing the line. If Sean Taylor was still playing today, he would probably be in the same boat.

Break down and wrap up -- problem solved. Reed's technique on that play was tuck arms and lead with head. I side with the NFL on this one.
