NFC East Chances
We are still very much in the playoff hunt. What do you think the chances the skins make the playoffs. Why or why not? Who do you think will win the NFC east. By the looks of the schedules a 9-7 team might end up winning it. What wins do you see the skins having? What wins do you think the rest of the NFC East will get? What has to happen for us to win?
Current Standings: NYG 6-4 DAL 5-5 WAS 4-6 PHI 3-7 NYG Schedule: vs. GB @ WAS vs NO @ ATL @ BAL vs PHI DAL Schedule: vs WAS vs PHI @ CIN vs PIT vs NO @ WAS WAS schedule: @ DAL vs NYG vs BAL @ CLE @ PHI vs DAL |
Re: NFC East Chances
Personally, all I can think about right now is beating Dallas on Thursday. It's cliche, but you have to take care of your own games one game at a time before you worry about the rest

Re: NFC East Chances
That Panthers game really stings right now. Grrrrr........

Re: NFC East Chances
I posted the NFC playoff seeding in the Dallas week thread, and while the playoffs is the goal it seriously starts with beating Dallas this week. If we do, we are right there, and the next game against the Giants becomes THE game. If we win our games, the rest will absolutely take care of itself. And other than the Ravens, we ought to be able to beat every other team on our schedule. Will we? That is the question!

Re: NFC East Chances
Right now, like the rest of the team ( I hope ) I am only seeing Stars. Grass, dirt and blood covered stars. We can figure out the rest during our mini bye week in between Thursday the 22nd and Monday the 3rd.

And the Rams game too, actually. |

Ugh, the f'ing Cowpukes have a pretty easy schedule. I hope they self destruct again.

Not so sure -- they will have a dogfight with us, twice, the Steelers aren't pushovers, even with the Big Ben injury and who knows he could be back, and NO isn't a team anyone wants to play right now. But the key is that we have to take care of business -- starting in 2 days. |

It's not just one game against Philly, we also beat #7-9 on the NFC seed list, and with a win this week we suddenly get vaulted back into having a shot. As JR told me, it's alot of IF IF IF's right now, and the Skins have certainly fooled us over the years, But Griffin makes me want to believe. It would be awesome to see a playoff run akin to the year ST died, but without the drastic a propelling force. For right now it all comes down to Turkey Day at Dallas |

This wouldn't be a discussion any other year, or in any other division... but its a legitimate discussion in the NFC East this year, because no one is really that good. Furthermore, the team that is the best of the bunch (NYG) has one of the most brutal schedules down the stretch. I actually think the winner of this game between Dallas and Washington is really in the drivers seat, even though we'd still be two games behind NY (playing them next week). We're not all that good, but given the division this year, we really have just as good of a shot as anyone. The Giants game is a absolute must win, Cowboys game is pretty much one too. I don't think we have any chance of getting the wild card, because I don't think we'll run the table... but I think if we finished 9-7 (assuming we beat NY), we'd be almost a lock to win the division. That said, I think its a total coin flip Thursday. |
Re: NFC East Chances
Yes. It is a ton of "if's" and we are absolutely not good enough to look past Thursday.
... at the same time, how sweet would it be to be hosting Dallas on the final day of the season, winner gets the division. |
Re: NFC East Chances
I thought aceinthehouse was back after seeing this thread title at this point in the year. Gmanc is right, but still think Giants in the driver seat though.

Well we have to win the rest of our division games.

That Victor Cruz catch!!! That Josh Morgan Helmet meltdown. That 15 penalty from Kyle. Man, just one less mental mistake and we are 5-5. |
Re: NFC East Chances
One final thought: There are 6 games left. If we win Thanksgiving Day, we have the head to head sweep on the so called contenders category for the final spot. Chicago is in danger of total meltdown (According to the wild card tie breaker procedures on NFL.com).

That Josh Morgan Helmet meltdown. That 15 penalty from Kyle. Man, just one less mental mistake and we are 5-5.
Those two are the worst. The Panthers game as much as it sucked, we deserved to lose that game. That 15 yarder on Kyle really was after Rg3 took an awful sack and pretty much sealed it. The only thing the 15 yarder hurt was our hail mary attempt (which didn't even reach the endzone). The other two, are games we probably should have won (up 21-6 in St. Louis, a bomb away from the win in NY), so to me, those upset me way worse. |

I like that we pretty much control our fate. Beat Dallas first and let's revisit this.

Re: NFC East Chances

Not as much as the Giants game. We had that one won. We probably would have won the Rams game without the replacement refs who wanted to see a WWE match with helmets. St. Louis played so dirty that game, nothing was called. We could, probably SHOULD be 6-4 right now, just ahead of the 5-5 Giants who we should have beaten. With all of this said, we're probably the best 4-6 team in football and really still do have a shot at the division or a wild card. If we keep playing the way we are against division opponents, we could sweep the division from here out. We can beat Dallas twice. We know we can beat Philly again. We know we can hang with the Giants...we beat them twice last year and were seconds away from making it three straight wins against them. That puts us at 8 wins and we should beat Cleveland. Baltimore isn't even what they used to be...they have far worse injury problems on D than we do. 8-8 or 9-7 are obtainable. 8-8 might even win this division this season. Have you seen the Giants' remaining games? Green Bay at Washington New Orleans at Atlanta at Baltimore Philadelphia |
Re: NFC East Chances
The way this team makes the playoffs is to win out. Can they, well that is the question and its starts Thursday.
BTW we have NEVER beat Dallas on Thanksgiving. |

BTW we have NEVER beat Dallas on Thanksgiving.
Won't be able to say that again Thursday night. As for the playoffs after we win Thursday and after the Giants get their ass kicked by GB then I'll say we have a good chance to sneek in. |
Re: NFC East Chances
The Redskins can beat every team remaining on the schedule, including the Baltimore Ravens. If we finish 8-8 I'd still be pleased given where we were at(3-6). But I think the NY Midgets will lose four of their next five and finish 8-8 themselves because they have the most difficult games remaining of any team in the division. If the Redskins can somehow end up 9-7 and win the NFC east division that would be excellent. That would mean a playoff birth.

No shit!! One game at a time. I just don't trust Haslett's defense to be consistent, i hope he proves me wrong. |

Re: NFC East Chances
Giants schedule looks brutal. Ours looks good, but this coaching staff will fuk up betwen now and then, and we will finish at best 8-8. I still think 6 wins will be where we land.
|
Re: NFC East Chances
Who knows what will happen, but one thing for sure this would have been a great year to get our sh!t together given how the division is looking.

Should have beat STL and NY and we would b 6-4 and not worried about catching up

Romo is 5-0 on Thanksgiving with a 105 QB rating. Dallas has won 5 of it's last 6

To me that makes me more optimistic. The law of averages is on our side. It is highly unlikely Romo will go 6-0 in Thanksgiving. It is even more unlikely that the Cowpigeons will win 6 of 7. They are not that good right now. |
