Ravens V Redskins - Beltway Brawl or Maryland Massacre?
4 weeks ago, I think we all would have looked at this game and been worrying about Ravens feasting on our bones. We were coming off two losses to the Steelers and Carolina. The team looked disjointed, the coach talked about evaluation for future years. Now, who isn't secretly hoping for a scalping of the northern neighbors? Who doesn't want to see Garcon turn up a gear as he slices through their secondary?
And it's possible. AccuScore, which hasn't picked us in along time, has us at 51 to 49%. We are favored by 2pts (not much considering we are home). Terrell Suggs is a game time decision, and Ray Lewis is out. There defense has allowed 372 yds/game, and ours is at 399. Our offense averages 384, theirs is 350. Of course we lost Cedric Griffin, London Fletcher has said repeatedly how sore he is. We saw a few early drops and Morris has fumbled 3 times in the last 6 games. Playoff wise, we certainly need every win. If Giants or Seahawks falter at all, we need to be able to step in and not have lost our positioning, because of a bad game. The Ravens are definitely trying to straighten out there ship and make a push for the post season. Leaderboard: Baltimore Passing: Flacco - 252-426, 3038 yds, 15 tds Rushing: Rice - 198 car, 872 yds, 8 tds Receiving: Smith - 42 rec, 732 yds, 7 tds Washington Leaders Passing: Griffin III - 218-325, 2660 yds, 17 tds Rushing: Morris - 230 car, 1106 yds, 6 tds Receiving: Moss - 29 rec, 416 yds, 7 tds My one question: do we focus on stopping Rice and force Flacco to win, or play not to give up the big plays and let our defense hold serve against the run? |
Re: Ravens V Redskins - Beltway Brawl or Maryland Massacre?
^To your question: I say we take Rice out of the game. Never let the other team's best player beat you. Force Flacco to win it.
|
Re: Ravens V Redskins - Beltway Brawl or Maryland Massacre?
Give them the same business we gave Eli...who is a better QB, with better options.
|
Re: Ravens V Redskins - Beltway Brawl or Maryland Massacre?
ravens are ranked in the bottom third in the league in EVERY stat but scoring.
hang onto the ball, it's a win. that simple. |
Re: Ravens V Redskins - Beltway Brawl or Maryland Massacre?
We HAVE to generate QB pressure. This needs to be the defensive mantra from here on out. QB or bust.
|
Re: Ravens V Redskins - Beltway Brawl or Maryland Massacre?
ive been pleased to see how creative haslett has gotten scheme-wise lately. maybe its just in my head, but he seems to understand the flow of the game and started to implement more creative blitzes.
|
Re: Ravens V Redskins - Beltway Brawl or Maryland Massacre?
Stop Rice, take away the deep ball and make Flacco beat us with a dink and dunk.
With that said, don't think we stop Rice and Flacco is such a hot/cold QB that, if he is on, he can beat you dinking and dunking. If he is not, he will make unforced errors. |
Re: Ravens V Redskins - Beltway Brawl or Maryland Massacre?
I think stop Rice, but our defense is getting an assist from our offense. Our offense is indirectly causing pressure the other team's offenses to abandon gameplan and have to throw the ball to keep up. Our best defense at this point is an aggressive offense. So concentrate on Rice and be aggressive on offense when we have the ball.
|
Re: Ravens V Redskins - Beltway Brawl or Maryland Massacre?
I think we have to force the Ravens to play from behind. As soon as this happens, Cam Cameron forgets that he has a Pro Bowl RB and passes like crazy. So I say we need to keep Torrey Smith and Boldin in check. I think we have a good enough of a run defense that we may not need to put 8 men in the box to stop the run. But we can't let Smith (or Jacoby Jones) beat us deep. Speaking of Jones, we can't let him take one to the house on a KR or PR. In the end, our best defense will be a steady scoring by the offense.

The ravens are a pass first team with an avg qb. Honestly they really don't scare anyone anymore, they defense is old and not great( actually it's bad) and I believe Robert will continue his streak of 0 Ints.
Skins 28 ravens 20 . |

Skins 28 ravens 20 .
That's actually the part that worries me, even though I agree that flacco isn't great by any means. I still don't understand why the giants didn't throw the ball more against our Swiss cheese defense. In other news - which Beltway are we brawling over? 495 or 695? |
Re: Ravens V Redskins - Beltway Brawl or Maryland Massacre?
Good thread here.
Since I work around 80% Raven fans every 4 years I get pounded with it. Have the Redskins ever won against the Ravens? I remember the pitiful last time. They came out physical first thing and demanded submission.....and got it for the most part... but we played them at M&T last time. 12th man needs to demand submission here this time....get loud for the skins foremost. Alot of energy transmits to players. I think if they know you want it ,they'll get it for you... Seems to work for the Ravens at M&T because they're terrible away. Fed Ex isn't really away for them though. Steelers have the blueprint for defense. Good rush will shake Flacco. Tight coverage fustrates Boldin and Torey. Keep a spy close to stop that little f$#@! diddle diddle in the middle shit and the RG3 and company power boost will take care of the rest. Game over. Lights out! The only thing that scares me is Cameron is still trying his best to prove they have a pass attack. We're weak defending it. We need to keep time of possesion on our side like we did against NO. Morris needs to play like after he fumbled the ball against NY. Man I hope we get this one....This one's for the fans on the northern front. We need some respect again. Go Skins!!! |
Re: Ravens V Redskins - Beltway Brawl or Maryland Massacre?
As bad as the redskins pass defense is, the run defense is really good (4th in the league I believe). The defense has to bottle up Ray Rice and force him into one of those 20-25 carries, 65-75 yard days which would be really damn good. Key to the game: Turnovers, the Ravens have turned the ball over 2+ times only 4 time this season. 3 of them were their only losses and the only win was 9-6 against KC.

Re: Ravens V Redskins - Beltway Brawl or Maryland Massacre?
I here you dude, Rice isn't the only one now. Pierce looked good last week against Steelers. Pierce got some good run time. Ravens will start looking for home field advantage and this win is important for that reason. They seemed to save Rice some last week. Probably looking to save him some for post season. More got put on Pitta and the other dude #12 (punt return man). Ravens pass attack and get out ahead with points will be first against us. They know our offense scores now. If they accomplish this it'll be hard to recover against there pass defense for sure. Key will be to shake Flacco...Thats what the Steelers manage to do.
We keep saying our offense makes up for our defense, but a win this time will require a stout pass and run defense. Flacco's been honing his craft and Hall is on crutches I heard....not good. We don't have that "next man up" |

most of the ravens fans i know were redskins fans who were there in the good times, the health, but couldn't remain true in the bad, the sickness.
i want this one so bad |

Re: Ravens V Redskins - Beltway Brawl or Maryland Massacre?
This is going to be a weird game. Both Ds are nothing to write home about and the passing attacks are nothing to write home about due to inconsistency. Rice and Morris are going to be the core of this game, but RG3 is going to be the difference.
The wuss over at Walterfootball has this going straight up for the Redskins, but won't put any units on it. A spread of 1.5 is pretty narrow though. |

i want this one so bad
I hear you dude. I need to show in my profile I'm 49 yrs old and I remember seeing Sonny and Billy throwin some thrillie. I seen it come and go and come and go. I hope I'm getting a look at it comming back. The colors have always flowed thru my blood. Burgandy and Gold is how I roll. Baltimore once was blue and white. I recall a horse shoe. So now Purple???? WTF with that anyhow?? Please kick that ass!!!! |
Re: Ravens V Redskins - Beltway Brawl or Maryland Massacre?
All I know is, if the Redskins don't win I'm going to have to hear it from EVERYONE. Family. Friends. Exes. Strippers. Pimps. Hos. Crackheads. Bill collectors. Everyone will talk some crap.
Living in the DC Metro area, losing to the Ravens is almost as bad as losing to Dallas. |

Re: Ravens V Redskins - Beltway Brawl or Maryland Massacre?
To some of us and I certainly speak of myself also, this is a rivalry. It's become a rivalry at a personal level now. Fed Ex will be full of Purple just like it was yellow and black when Steelers played. I'm trying to get some tickets from a friend because I'm thinking the Ravens fans will soon be eating the dying crow they're becoming. I want to see it live. It would be most rewarding to see a true change localy and get braging rights redeemed.

Re: Ravens V Redskins - Beltway Brawl or Maryland Massacre?
Two of the girls I was associates/friends with back when they were here at ECU are huge Ravens fans. One lives in DC, and the other VB. One of them actually cheered for the Ravens back in '03. Quite the hottie too. :P If we lose, I'm sure I'll be hearing from both on facebook.

Re: Ravens V Redskins - Beltway Brawl or Maryland Massacre?
When I was a kid I really like the Cleveland Browns, but when they moved to Baltimore (even though it was closer to home) I never embraced them. In fact, I kind of disowned them and started hating them
That said, from a professional standpoint (as in my career), I'm unfortunately a huge fan of their organization. Like I love the Redskins as a football fan, but don't think I'd ever want to work for them but I can't stand the Ravens as a football fan, but would probably choose them over any other NFL organization as an employee. |

Argh, it has SO not. It's become a rivalry for THEM. If we win, that is super bad ass. If we lose, it'll be, "Damn. That's going to hurt our playoff chances." I'm not going to say, "Aw man, it was the Ravens, our rivals! This one is going to sting." I refuse to let them turn this into something. Daseal said it best, "I guess it must hurt to have a competitive team that is constantly crushed in popularity be a perennial bottom-dweller right down the road." Sad part is, I used to want them to do well... ...until I met their fans; and there are only two types: 1) You live in Baltimore or 3-4 miles from that city or; 2) You only know the team from 2000 on... |

Re: Ravens V Redskins - Beltway Brawl or Maryland Massacre?
Here is what I would tell the Skins defense before the game:
"They bleed just like we do, and sweat just like we do. They went through two-a-days. We went through two-a-days in 110 degree heat. I want you to hit everything that moves! If the ref gets in your way, you hit him too!" (Friday Night Lights Movie). |

The definition of the word "rivalry" speaks of the competition "on the field" For me and other fans the field exists at work, home, facebook, ect. It's a fans rivalry for bragging rights for sure! The competition is beat down your competitor with bragging. We haven't had much to brag about for a long time. Here on the north east side of fanville it's in your face! It's rivalry here alright....Yes indeedie!!! |

If the Skins can't do it, at least a semi-close home team can." And Earthquake, I know you don't have to be from the place your favorite team is, but I forgot the most important Ravens fan group: former Skins fans. Have a buddy who loved the Panthers and said, "They're never on TV, I'm a Ravens fans now." Well congratulations asshole, the Skins are on TV EVERY WEEKEND HERE. I told him the bandwagon will be full next year when you decide you made a terrible and ridiculous decision. I don't mean that I don't want the Skins to gain new fans because of RG3s popularity, but when you go from Carolina to Baltimore, all respect is lost. |

I remember Kevin talking about the those ramble fans. He said He couldn't download the thought of being anything but the fan you started out being. It's true to me. How does one root against a team you use to be a fan of.....very wierd and warped.. I guess it has to be that way for some players also... |
Re: Ravens V Redskins - Beltway Brawl or Maryland Massacre?
Dude's ....was Fletcher pumped for that Giants game or what!!! It was cool they did the microphone on him for the game....I still have a mental picture of him bustin' Bradshaws ass on the sideline and yellin' "Com'on chump....thats right....It's on"
Get'em Fletcher....It's on! Get'em pumped...HTTR.... |
Re: Ravens V Redskins - Beltway Brawl or Maryland Massacre?
While I appreciate the big Monday Night win, and I won't downplay the fact that the Skins have swept the last three games against the NFC East, two of those games on a National stage, one on the road....I still am suspect about this defense...and it does get worse with the loss of C Griff. Perhaps Haslett is creative enough to mask yet another key loss with his "scheming"...but I am of the opinion, the loss of CG will be noticeable.
To me, the offense must play lights out, and we will need some help from special teams in order to pull this game out, and down the stretch. This is the playoffs. Our playoffs started three weeks ago... 7-0 lets go! |

Re: Ravens V Redskins - Beltway Brawl or Maryland Massacre?
This is going to be a fun one to watch.
Unlike a few years ago, when it was 2 top 10 defenses going at it, this time its going to be 2 top offenses going at it. Ed Reed today said RG3 is like superman, and for RG3 to not run the ball is like telling superman to not fly. Do we have a CB fast enough to cover Torrey? I don't think so.. Side note: Inside the NFL guys all picked us to beat the ravens. Also London was on Jim Romes new show. Jim asked him about our chances of going on a run in the playoffs. Londons response didn't sound too confident at first, then he said we've been playing our best football and we'll see. He didn't flat out say "Oh I definitely think we can go on a run"... :( |
Re: Ravens V Redskins - Beltway Brawl or Maryland Massacre?
^^ Got a put a safety over T Smith all game long, simple as that. I like that we're not overly confident, it means we should be ready for every game.
|
Re: Ravens V Redskins - Beltway Brawl or Maryland Massacre?
I'm loving what the Redskins are doing on both sides of the ball. Now, if only the secondary can get it together. I think it could come down to Forbath nailing a 45 yard FG for the game winner with 2 seconds remaining in the game. When was the last time the Redskins had this kind of thrilling win?

Re: Ravens V Redskins - Beltway Brawl or Maryland Massacre?
I should start another thread here with this " Iron Man Fletcher or Iron Man Ray Lewis". But since Ray won't play because his iron seems to be turning to pot metal I won't start it.
I'm hoping Fletcher pumps up the D and we get a smack down on the Balt crows actually. Think of the message it spreads to the AFC side. Ravens are quiet now licking there wounds from Steeler whoopin' on 'em nows the time to kick'em when there down. With Lewis out they actually play somewhat faster. I suspect with Suggs injury even if he plays he won't extend that arm to tackel but bull rush and still set the edge. Anthow it seems even though Lewis made more probowls the real iron man is still makin' plays. Get'em Fletch....pump'em up!!!! |
