Don't see much interest for Rod Gardner
Just read an artiicle about the Bucs having a little interest in Gardner but other then that I've seen nothing else.
|
Re: Don't see much interest for Rod Gardner
baltimore, san diego , and houston have made there intrest known
baltimore is in need of more wr's. houston needs a solid #2 next to johnson. and marty was the one that drafted gardner and liked him from the start, and now head coach of SD has a chance to get him back and may do it. |
Re: Don't see much interest for Rod Gardner
my guess is that there wont be much interest in trading for a wr while there are still receivers in free agency. My guess is this will be a draft day deal.
Did the Skins say they would cut him if he doesnt get traded? |

Re: Don't see much interest for Rod Gardner
nah. i would at least trade him for a draft pick. he may be worthless to us, but there is value in him amongst other teams. i would love to see him go and have either patten and coles, or patten and moss, if the deal goes through, as our starting wideouts next year.
|
Re: Don't see much interest for Rod Gardner
Houston is an interesting destination for him across from Andre Johnson, who is going to be a big time WR very soon.
|
Re: Don't see much interest for Rod Gardner
well now that we have santana moss, im not sure if joe gibbs will trade rod gardner too. i would like to see us get at least a second round pick in return.
|
Re: Don't see much interest for Rod Gardner
you won't see a 2nd. MAYBE a 3rd.
I want Jacobs to get into the starting lineup. I think he can. Patten isn't a starter type of guy, but if he goes to church with Joe Gibbs he knows he'll start for at least 8 weeks. |
Re: Don't see much interest for Rod Gardner
damn that would suck. gardner was a first round pick. i would at least think we would get maybe a second round. maybe marty schottenheimer would give us a second round pick for him. im not sure about anyone else.
|
Re: Don't see much interest for Rod Gardner
My ideal situation would be to use Gardner in a trade-up situation with the Buccaneers to guarantee that we get one of the two big WRs in the draft. As neat as it is having all receivers under 6 feet, I think it might be a bit nice to have someone kinda big. We need someone to fill that Art Monk type role. Mike Williams, as has been mentioned ad nauseum already, is the perfect fit for that.

Gerrard Warren was the third overall pick and he got shipped out to Denver for only a fourth rounder. Just cuz he was a first round pick, doesnt mean he wasnt a bust, and if we get a third for him, I will be impressed. I think a fourth is the best we can get, and most likely will settle for anything. Get the cancer outta here. |

Hey Daseal, wheres your boy spurrier, with moss we now have the offense that hes always dreamed of having. |
Re: Don't see much interest for Rod Gardner
yeah if we could trade gardner and our first round pick to the bucs for their first round pick i'd say that's a good trade. yeah i know im too hopeful that we would get a second round pick, but i would be okay with a third or fourth round pick.
|
Re: Don't see much interest for Rod Gardner
I love how everybody thinks that because we draft some guy in the first round then we should get a first round pick in exchange. The guy can't catch!! We'll be lucky to get a mid round pick for him. Nobody in their right mind is going to trade a first or even a second with the receivers (though not spectacular) that are available especially for a guy, who once again, can't catch!
|
Re: Don't see much interest for Rod Gardner
i didn't say i wanted a first round pick for him. i would like to see a second round pick at the most. i know thats asking for alot. i would just want something higher than a fourth round pick for him.
|
Re: Don't see much interest for Rod Gardner
I hear you Mooby and I hope the Chargers and Marty are just dumb enough to do it. I just think that most teams rather pick up a receiver in the draft (1st or 2nd round) then get Gardner. Maybe if the top 6 or so are off the board early, we might be able to get a late 2nd but I'm thinking realisticaly that we'll get no higher than a 3rd. Hope I'm wrong. Maybe Marty gives up the 1st they got from the Gints!
|
Re: Don't see much interest for Rod Gardner
lol he would really have to be stupid to do that. i think the only way marty would give up a second round pick is because he's the one that drafted gardner and he likes him. maybe he would be willing to do that. anything in or higher than the fourth round would be good.

Re: Don't see much interest for Rod Gardner
The ideal trade:
R Gardner, M Barrow and R Roayl for A Gates, D Edwards and Q Jammer Hey, I can dream, can't I? |
Re: Don't see much interest for Rod Gardner
wow. you know that would never happen. but you can still dream.
|
Re: Don't see much interest for Rod Gardner
I think that Gardner is worth about a 5th rounder. Since several teams are interested, and there are very few free agent WRs out there, I'll bet there becomes a decent market for him and maybe they bid it up to a 4th rounder. But you'll never get a 3rd or higher, cause he just plain sucks. We wiffed on that pick.
To tell you the truth, I don't think we need to draft a WR. If we did end up with Williams or Williamson, I'd be happy. But I don't think a WR is really needed. I like our corps as it is, reminds me BIG TIME of the Patriots WRs from last year. All small, all fast, all good route-runners. None will be big-time stars. Branch was a bit better than the rest of the Pats WRs, and the same can be said for Moss. Of course, one common thread obviously is Patten. Drafting a WR would work for me, but I also would be happy with Pac-Man Jones or a defensive end. |
Re: Don't see much interest for Rod Gardner
See I disagree. Who are these teams gonna get in the 4th or 5th round who is as good and talented as Rod Gardner? I would much rather have Rod than a 4th/5th rounder. I could see a team not wanting to part with a 2nd rounder, but I think a 3rd is pretty accurate price.

I completely agree. Jesus, I was somewhat disconcerted to hear we might not even get a 3rd rounder. If we get a 5th rounder I'll be pissed. |
Re: Don't see much interest for Rod Gardner
It would've been nice had Sndyer had his way instead of Marty and we drafted Moss to begin with.
|
Re: Don't see much interest for Rod Gardner
yeah i just found out that rod gardner was drafted right before santana moss. i can't believe we passed moss up for rod gardner. damn what was schottenheimer thinking?
|
Re: Don't see much interest for Rod Gardner
it won't let me edit my post so im gonna double post. read this. it says the skins are interested in trading rod gardner to the vikings for a draft pick. this is great news. if the vikings take rod gardner, then they might not draft mike williams. that would leave mike williams for us to take him.

Re: Don't see much interest for Rod Gardner
Talk about spin-doctoring: he wants a trade because he's unhappy with the way the skins used him? how about: he wants a trade because he can't catch and now Ramsey won't throw him the ball or he wants a trade because he's about to become a bench warmer etc....
|
Re: Don't see much interest for Rod Gardner
how about he just wants a damn trade. if i was the owner i would be calling every team on the market right now. its people like him that bring down the moral of the skins.

But don't you think that Moss would have been misused, or even not used at all, in Marty's offense? Big guys like Gardner and even Derrius Thompson is what Marty's offense was all about, not a burner like Moss |

Then why in the hell did Marty bring over Jaques Green? |
Re: Don't see much interest for Rod Gardner
Marty was long gone before Spurrier brought Jacquez Green in

A very good point Smootsmack. But, I'm looking at it all in retrospect...we fired Marty and got Spurrier and we just lost Coles. |

I thpught and still believe that it was marty who brought in Jaques Green. I do know that Jaques Green played for marty in kc. |

True, very true Angryssg, are you thinking of Kevin Lockett maybe? Jacquez Green played for Tampa only before coming to the Skins, where he never really played, then went on to Detroit http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/GreeJa00.htm |
Re: Don't see much interest for Rod Gardner
coles was only happy in a spurrier type offense. thats why he didn't like gibbs' offense is because it isn't pass happy. i can't remember who brought jacques green in. all i know is that he don't play for us anymore.

The article is dated 3/5 - I think they refer to the Oakland trade because it just went down "officially" on the 2nd. Thank you for your continued service. |

Will the Skins ex-GM, Casserly, help us out here........Hey Cass help Joe out will ya.....Seriously, I read here in our papers that the Texans don't have a lot of cap room either..will Gardner's salary fit? We went to a Texan game (hey better than going to a Cryboy game) I was impressed with Johnson......good pickup by Cass. |
