Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
finally the mess is over
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
oh well good riddance i say. there's no way i would have kept him the way he critized joe gibbs' offense. welcome santana moss
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
Great news, let's hope he passes the Jets physical!
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
Moss, Thrash, Jacobs, Patten
some really nice speed there |
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
Great speed, but we still need some size. Might be ok if we draft wideout or if McCants just gets some playing time.
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
I'm surprised we didn't get even a 3rd rounder in addition to Moss. I think we got less than the market would have allowed. Therefore, my guess is the media will say how the Jets got the better end of the deal and...for once...they may be right.
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
its a great deal for us, cuz instead of releasing him for nothing, we get a solid young player. i dont mind it at all. we get someone who doesnt want to be here off the team, and someone who wants to be on the team on. cant always compare the trade as to how it looks on paper. coles is better than moss, but moss will be better for this team than coles would have.
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
yeah although the reason coles was unhappy was because this is a run first offense. im not sure how santana moss will react to that.
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
What was the cap hit - and it says terms not disclosed, could that include draft picks?
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
maybe, although its probably unlikely. well chris samuels restructured, but im not sure if we will absorb a cap hit because he's leaving.
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
We will unless he paid us some money.
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
It's a run first offense, but it's also an offense that in the past has produced many 1000 yard WR's, including 3 in one season. Things will open up this year with Ramsey's continued development and improved OL play.

We have enough U of Miami guys to settle him down. Plus I don't ever recall hearing that he was a selfish player. |

Because Coles has always been labeled as selfish? |

I can promise you that Portis, Taylor and Moss will be spending a lot of time together. My friend thats still at Miami played basketball with Portis, Taylor and Edgerin James last week. They all still hang out and have a close relationship. In terms of him being selfish, I dont recall him being a selfish player. I just hope he gives our offense the spark that it needs. |
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
Are you drawing up your new Avatar with #6 in there?
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
lol...mabye...
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
Well i think we lost out in the swap, but if neither player wants to return to their team then it makes sense.
Maybe the best way to look at it is we had Coles and Gardner, now we have Moss and Patten. We have lots more speed, and a guy who has 3 Superbowl rings, so overall i would say it is an upgrade. Im sure Patrick will be looking forward to showing off his arm with the new deep threats. |
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
Patrick better get out there on Monday with all of our receivers and just start throwing a ton of balls to them. Manning always talk about how important it is that he goes out and practices with his guys to learn how they run and stuff. We definitly need them to all learn to play together
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
Personally I would hope we could get a 3rd rounder thrown in there. That would really aid us in any trade-up we might have to do in order to pick our WR.
Of course, if they balked at throwing in the pick, they could always just toss in that Jonathan Vilma guy, you know just cuz hes from Miami and we could gain our monopoly on Miami players......... |
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
what's with all the miami university talk. okay we have three guys from there. i heard somewhere that miami turns out the most pro football players of all the colleges. i wish we could get a draft pick in there somewhere. oh well.
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
all the Miami talk is usually becuase of me, youll get used to it, heh.
Man, if they threw in Vilma.... That would definitly solve our middle linebacker problem thats for sure. Hell I would hvae given them our 9th pick in the draft to add vilma to the deal |
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
i don't think the jets would trade jonathan vilma after he earned defensive rookie of the year. he's too valuable. i wouldn't mind if we used a second or third round pick on a middle linebacker, just as long as michael barrow doesnt play. that guy was a bust. so was mark brunell. ugh.

I think that what is most important here is that we now have our receivers in place before the mini camps and there will be an opportunity to establish chemistry. Patrick needs to step up and take the lead there. Also, we could all see from last year that it takes the players a while to learn the pre-snap adjustments in a Gibbs offense. Time to "get to work" with some guys who should be willing and ready to do the work. |
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
yeah patrick ramsey should take a cue from peyton manning and work really hard with his receivers in his spare time so they can develop chemistry.
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
Maybe now we can trade Brunell for a conditional 7th round pick. 7th if they keep him, we'll give the team that takes him a 7th if they don't.
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
:headbange it's a good trade for the skins because it was either lose coles and get nothing, keep coles and have a hurt and unhappy wideout, or trade coles for another player. i'm glad we got another player and moss is a pretty good wr. we really have some guys to get down the field now and patten is a very consistant player, he doesn't drop passes like gardner did. now it would be nice if the skins could draft a big wr. we've got a sanders and a clark now we need a monk.
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
i heard somewhere that the redskins can't trade mark brunell because of salary cap issues. damn him. what a bust.
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
My understanding is that trading Brunell would be like trading Coles, it would equal his release fee, about 7 million dollars. If this is the case, we could trade him (or cut him for all I care) bite the bullet this year, draft a quartback late in the draft (7th round or so) and let "Timmy" be the backup to Ramsey. I love Timmy anyway, I would rather have him on the field than Brunell if Ramsey got hurt. And, this would save us millions next year.
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
brunnell aint going nowhere, so you guys might as well quit dreaming. but it would be nice.
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
moss didnt live up to the hype. its sad but in my opinion its a lose-lose situation
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
Cutting or trading Brunell is impossible for us now. Trading Coles has pushed us snug against the cap (I believe we have less than $3M in space now. Canuck, care to give us some exact numbers?) I think that we are now much more likely to trade down from #9, so that we can pay our selection a smaller SB. I predict that when the offseason is all said and done, we will be VERY close to the spending limit. I'm sure Gibbs will leave a little big of wiggle room to sign one or two players during the season (just in case Hall decides to get injured again) but we can't expect any more than that.
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
I am glad it's done who know's with Cole's toe problem if he will ever be 100% we have a healthy reciever who is a special team's game breaker, Moss is a very nice addition, I also have to figure that Cole's signed off on the $5mil bonus because he recieved a new deal with the Jet's and another signing bonus, I still think we need a big physical reciever to go with these guy's I don't know if we have a true #1 at this point, but it does give us a little flexability come draft time nobody can hold us to the grindstone on any particular player.
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
It's not that I hate the trade, it's just I think we could've gotten SOME kind of additional compensation (i.e. mid-round draft pick).
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
Just read in another thread that we already paid him his salary bonus? If that's so I would have let him rot on our bench, kind of funny how he held up the deal with the Jet's now all of a sudden it's ok, I would like to see the conformation of that first, anybody know for sure?
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
Moss, Thrash, Jacobs, Patten
some really nice speed there
Don't forget either Mike Williams or Troy Williamson. We basically won't have a true #1 wideout - rather, we'll have a deep, if unspectacular, wideout corps. That said, with Gibbs running 2-3 wideout formations more often than not, I'm not sure depth is what we need. The lineup doesn't sound so bad, but I think it's far better suited to a Spurrier-run offense with 3-4 wideout sets. |
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
Talk about speed though. I don't know how it will work with this Offense but at least we have two guys who can gain separation down the field!! It's a good deal for the skins. Who knows if Coles will ever get his toe taken care of and he didn't want to be here anyway.
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
And isn't Antonio Brown the fastest of them all?
|
Re: Source: Deal Done; Coles For Moss
Moss & Patten will be a nice addition to your team. Congrats!
