So I am back...

Back to Directv for me.

I can't believe I wrote that sentence!

No FIOS at my new house and after shopping packages we decide on Vonage phone, Comcast Blast internet service and DTV. I can't deal with Comcast TV it is just plain horrible. FiOS is slated to be in my hood (new build Hood) in 3 to 6 months I will switch internet service then to FiOS but I got make a 2 year commitment to DTV.

I get the Ticket for free this year and the new Genie system (HR34). I am praying the signal is not a issue. I had DTV in NOVA and Columbia(MD) with zero problems but when i took it to north of B-more it was out all the time. I really think in hindsight my dish was never aligned correctly.

I will have to say menu-ing wise DTV was hands down the best. FiOS was basically Comcast with a better guide but the biggie was it worked all the time never down. Monthly with Comcast I was chasing bugs. FiOS On Demand was better then Comcast as well.

Re: So I am back...

Congrats on de-Comcasting your self.

I've been with Dish Network since 2005 (from Comcast) and it has been great for the most part. I had a receiver that needed replaced but customer service in Colorado, not India, was great and since I was a long-time customer who spoke up, they really hooked me up with some extras for free.

The new Genie system sounds like the basic DVR Dish has always had. I've always been able to record multiple shows from multiple rooms at the same time with it.

Good luck. Hope DTV is as good as Dish has been for me. The best part...my bill has never gone up in 8 years unless I added something to it voluntarily. When I had cable, it was going up every few months without any additional channels.

Re: So I am back...

Well I actually de-FiOS myself. Not by choice.

The Genie records 5 shows at one time. I looked at Dish but was not impressed with their channel line up; they do not have Sprout or Disney JR. Go to channels for my house. Their Hopper is pretty cool though. It basically came down to the channel line up for me.

I've been with DirecTV since 2005 now. No major complaints. Dumping Time Warner was the best thing I ever did. I really like the DTV app and being able to watch TV on my iPad.

Do you have the Genie (H34)?

I am in a listed building and can't get DTV, wish I could.

It's costing a fortune to go to a bar each gameday and watch the Redskins.

Sunday Ticket is far cheaper and considerably more convenient.

Not yet, last I checked they were only offering it for new customers. I haven't checked back into it for while.

gotcha, it has pretty good reviews.

Re: So I am back...

The last time I had DTV it was like 6 years age and i couldn't get local channels so I had to have a SAT and a OTA. God it was a pain managing those too.

Yeah I definitely want it. The way my house is set up they could only hook up a dvr in the master bedroom. Sucks because we rarely watch TV there. Having a whole home system would be perfect.

Is the HR34 the system without having a box. I was thinking of leaving DT when we moved because I'm sick of having a box for each TV. Do you need my number as a referral? Also let me know what you think of that system.

hooskins 04-04-2013 11:06 AM

At least you can get dish. With my place in dc I'm not allowed to have dish, as per the lease, and comcast is the only option.

At my rental properties I always say no SAT TV. Sorry but I am picky how I want it installed and I don't want a tenant just letting a installer do the laziest possible install.

No one has really complained though that I told them no.

I already got a referral deal but thanks.

I think the whole no box has to work with your TV. There are certain TV's that work with the HR34 so you don't need a box.

The c31 the slave boxes to the H34 are very tiny and I believe you can mount them behind a flat screen TV with a special bracket.

I assuming you have this set up because you need to coaxes in to othe box. With the new SWM tech the HR34 only needs one coaxe in but has 5 tuners.

Yeah my house is a nightmare, when it was built I'm not sure if the builders were just retarded or took mad shortcuts. Our guest bedrooms don't even have phone jacks and only one of them has a cable jack. When DirecTV came to install my system the tech was here for almost 12 hours, it was ridiculous.

My new house is brand new and if i didn't add cable jacks i would have only gotten 3. I still only have 2 phone jacks; soon those will be obsolete. Actually i won't even use them because i have vonage and phones that work off a base.

My dad's house he had them put in Ethernet cable jacks through out the house; totally waste now a days with WiFI.

Juts a matter of time when cable jacks will be a waste too.

skinsfaninok 04-04-2013 12:05 PM

I have DTV and have for a long time. It's always been pretty good, cable internet is better so I keep Cox internet and have DTV television.

They really didn't start pre wiring houses until around the mid 90's.IN our new house we had a choice of 14 lines they would run for our system. Then there is what I think he called a smart box that makes it easy to hook up to which ever system I choose. The guy also ran an extra line under the house and one in the atic. We also ran speaker wires in several rooms and out on our back porch. Should make things pretty easy. That's just what my builder package included and all comes at a cost. We are jsut about done with the house and they are now holdin me up and trying to shake out any last bit of money I have left.

Well even if you go with Comcast - FiOS phone yo ustill use your phone jacks. I have Vonage now which requires no jacks in the walls.

Yes, some people still use a house phone. I don't want but so many people to have my cell phone because I don't want everyone I know to have 24/7 access to bugging me.

Re: So I am back...

Also if i dial 911 they know my address with out me saying a peep. Plus long conversations are more comfortable on a house phone; at least receiver wise.

Shoot only $25 a month no biggie.

Re: So I am back...

I just had comcast hooked up. Awful just plain awful service. it pains my eyes to watch their product.

The Comcast guy was like if you are lucky the FiOS guys will be done before 30 days and return all this under the Comcast 30 day GTD. Even the installers know it is junk. HA!

Re: So I am back...

Just got FIOS today at the new place. What a breath of fresh air! 15 days of craptastic and I was going crazy. How anyone can watch that crap is beyond me. I personally rather have bunny ears.
