Grade the 2010 draft
Soon we will be swamped with draft grades. The wise will admonish us that drafts cannot truly be graded for 2-3 years.
With that in mind, this was our 2010 draft: 1/4 Trent Williams T Oklahoma 4/103 Perry Riley LB LSU 6/174 Dennis Morris TE Louisiana Tech 7/219 Terrence Austin WR UCLA 7/229 Erik Cook C New Mexico 7/231 Selvish Capers T West Virginia Here were the first ten picks that year: 1 St. Louis Rams Sam Bradford QB Oklahoma 2 Detroit Lions Ndamukong Suh DT Nebraska 3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Gerald McCoy DT Oklahoma 4 Washington Redskins Trent Williams T Oklahoma 5 Kansas City Chiefs Eric Berry SS Tennessee 6 Seattle Seahawks Russell Okung T Oklahoma State 7 Cleveland Browns Joe Haden CB Florida 8 Oakland Raiders Rolando McClain MLB Alabama 9 Buffalo Bills C.J. Spiller RB Clemson 10 Jacksonville Jaguars Tyson Alualu DT California Please grade that draft. |
Re: Grade the 2010 draft
I'd say a C+
A for Trent, B for Riley and a C- or below for everyone else, since they were basically warm bodies. |
Re: Grade the 2010 draft
Man I don't even remember Dennis morris

He got traded to the Rams before his first training camp even ended |
Re: Grade the 2010 draft
The picks that came out of the meaningful rounds were good and decent. C+ mostly because we didn't have the picks to do much better.
|
Re: Grade the 2010 draft
Overall, the draft sucked. I'd give it a C-/D+.
Our draft was a C+. We got an All pro LT and a starting MLB (giving it an A), but pretty much threw away our 2nd round pick for an aging QB and picked guys that don't even make practice squads from there, which would be an F-. So A and F- should round to about a C+ (sorta?) that 2010 draft as a whole was awful. 1 QB who is sort of a franchise QB, a highly touted safety who isn't living up to the hype. A highly drafted RB who is just now getting good. Two great LTs. A very good CB. An overrated McCoy and a very good, but headcase DT in Suh. Speaking of headcases Rolando is doing nothing to help his draft's case. Being constantly arrested and just being ok on the field. |
Re: Grade the 2010 draft
I'd say C+ just due to the lack of picks we have.
For me, I don't even really grade 6th and 7th rounders. Sure you get a guy like Morris every now and then, but they're total crap shoots. So looking at rounds 1-5, we only had two picks. Trent Williams is slowly becoming one of the better left tackles in the league, as long as he keeps himself out of trouble. In addition, for a 4th round pick, I think Riley has been very productive. |

Trent Williams and okung are very good. |
Re: Grade the 2010 draft
I don't see how anyone can have an issue with this draft. We got ourselves an all pro left tackle and a competent starting MLB.
5th+ rounders rarely work out and in regards to the McNabb trade criticism... How about getting Alfred Morris out of it? I'd say this draft was a success. |

1 6th and 3 7th's didn't turn out. Add me to the list of people who aren't surprised. |

That draft(number of picks), and this year's salary cap are the Redskin's pennance for having Vinny Cerrato in the building for so long. The little bit of grace thrown in, TW and Riley were the seeds of a new era. |
Re: Grade the 2010 draft
TW is one of the better LT's in the game now and Riley is a solid starter. I'll give this draft a solid B.
|
Re: Grade the 2010 draft
C+, perhaps B-. I think my main criticism at the time was that Okung > T. Williams, which through their careers to date, they've been practical equals, maybe slight edge to Okung.
Riley was a good find in round four. And the McNabb trade hangs over this draft like a dark cloud. |

No way. Trent is the best LT! :) |
No way.
Trent is the best LT! :)
On a serious note, other than maybe Matt Kalil. I wouldn't trade Trent for any LT in the league. |
Re: Grade the 2010 draft
They did pretty good with what they had to work, I'd say a B as well. If you consider the McNabb trade as being busted picks, maybe drops to a C.
|
Re: Grade the 2010 draft
With what they were working with I'd give them a B-.
They did pretty good with what they had to work, I'd say a B as well. If you consider the McNabb trade as being busted picks, maybe drops to a C.
Agree wholeheartedly. As long as TW lays off the weed now, the Skins nailed the first pick. Riley's not a star but at least he's a starter. The rest... meh. Good not a great draft. I don't think counting the McNabb trade with the draft is fair, though certainly the trade itself was a "F".
I think if you hit better than 50/50 on your high picks, and pick up an eventual starter or two after that, you have a good draft. It's harder than it seems when you look even at the teams that are known to draft well. Old Patriots, Packers, Steelers, Jerry Reese's Giants *spit*. |

Dallas had 12 picks in 2009, zero which are on their team now, and only 3 are still in the league. I'd say compared to that, this draft is an A++........ |
Re: Grade the 2010 draft
I give it a c. One player is becoming an elite player. One is a solid starter. The rest of it was garbage.
|
Re: Grade the 2010 draft
I don't get the low grades for this draft. Our first two picks garnered one elite player and one solid starter. The rest of the picks were in rounds 6 and 7 - those are garbage rounds. You generally don't expect much more than warm bodies there. I give us a solid B.

Re: Grade the 2010 draft
I've had a very busy weekend and have not seen much about our draft. With that said why did we draft two RB's?

Lol, I do. He had this super intense youtube highlight tape. Turns out our initial WTF reaction was justified. [YT]LARorin9Aos[/YT] Ironically enough we traded him to the Rams for an undisclosed draft pick. |
