Fred & Antonio were imporant. Both played well; made a commitment " We promised to do our best to keep our players together. Especially "core group"." They made the commiment; and both players they went after hard and early.

Expressed disire to get contracts done before season ended; continued. Needed to stay within confidnes of what works with everyone; needed to put other players plans into thought. Couldnt pay someone more than someone else in a similar postion (Springs??)

If you pay more to a player, effecting decisons down the road. Not so much the money as it is players, wants to keep players together. Not as much $$; "wish we didnt have salary cap" - someone on this board called that quote.

basically going to say that they cost too much and would have hurt the team in other places, and that he didnt want to pay more for smoot than springs, because it'd set a precedent to overpay springs or whoever else further down the road.

In this situation; they had 14 FA's. They gave the players a choice; and they went after guys. Thinks were all set with Ray Brown. Were successful with 14 guys and lost two guys (Perice/Smoot)

As long as things remain within reason, they are going to try to resign players. They dont want anyone to leave here. He sounds very dissapointed about losing these guys; although he wont really say it.

When you make a decision to make an offer and lose a player to free agency we have to have a contingency plan, moving a player, Michael Barrow, ahead of schedule on making a return. Regarding Fred, last year we made a decison on Walt Harris, blah blah blah, in Walt's case we decided that yes, he could come back from that surgery, and we talked it over with our guys. Walt, we were careful how we bought him along and that's paid off. We also have some good young CB's. Wilds and other players that are talented.

We have guys on our roster at Corner and young guys and the draft. So that might be a hint that were going to be going CB in draft.

I hope we go WR in the first round still. I think Harris/Wilds and a 3rd/4th rounder would work out. We need more help on offense.
