Best Head Coaches Currently In The NFL

What do yall think?

Give me your top 5 now and then give me someone new who we will be talking about years from now.

Currently:

1. Bill Belichick
2. Jim Harbaugh
3. Mike Tomlin
4. Tom Coughlin
5. Sean Payton

Underrated: Marvin Lewis

Next great new head: Greg Shiano

Who you got?

Not a bad list, I kinda like Mike McCarthy. How Marvin Lewis has a job in this day is beyond me, maybe its because Cincinnati loves to waller in mediocracy. 79-80 in ten years, 0-4 in playoffs.

Why does John Harbaugh always play second fiddle to his brother?
Why does John Harbaugh always play second fiddle to his brother?
Seconded. Other than Jim being whinier on the sidelines, and ruder at centerfield after a game, what's he got over John? (Both seem like d-bags, Jim on the sideline and John during preseason games, just asking what's the difference)

Hard for me to put Reid in the top 5 the way he completely f*cked up the eagles the last 2 years.

Belichick
tomlin
coughlin
shanahan
john harbaugh

Finally a Shanahan mention. He's done a great job turning this team around. It was a complete disaster, so of course it can't be fixed in one year but we're now back to powerhouse status. We're going to be one of the better teams in the league for years to come.

I mean the guy has won 2 superbowls and a hell of a lot of games in his career. Not to mention he turned around a complete cluster **** franchise.

If we were doing a top 10 I'd definitely put Shanahan in there. Depending on what goes down this year maybe he's top 5 next year.

I have to say, after watching "A Football Life" I have grown to respect and actually like bellichick. He doesn't seem like a prick to me anymore.

I just think Belichick is the best for performance over the years (despite not winning a ring since Spygate), and by the same criteria Reid deserves mention even without a ring.

In no order,

1. Pete Carroll. He has did a hell of job up there.

2. Shanny. How he walked in and demanded total control. His choices in personnel through draft and FA. He cleaned house.

3. Coughlin. Hate to say it.

4. McCarthey.

5. Mike Smith. He has ATL playing ball and thats what you want in your head coach.

UNDERRATED: Norv Turner :pimp:

Agree , you see it all the time with people that devote their lives to one thing and it consumes them and then usually a different area of their lives suffer.

Re: Best Head Coaches Currently In The NFL

Mike McCarthy
Bill Belichick
Mike Tomlin
Jim Harbaugh
Mike Smith
Pete Carroll

Tom Coughlin would rank pretty high among coaches who didn't make my list.

I really think Rob Chudzinski can do some great things in Cleveland. I think adding Chip Kelly is going to add to the quality of coaching league wide, because it will force opponents to adapt to a dynamically changing NFL. But if he continues to surround himself with guys like Pat Shurmur, he won't have a long, particularly successful career.

Jason Garrett is a really bad coach, so whenever that list comes, I'm all over that.

Re: Best Head Coaches Currently In The NFL

How about a category of best coaches without an elite top 5 QB?

John Harbaugh
Jim Harbaugh
Bruce Arians
Pete Carroll
Mike Shanahan
Leslie Frazier honorable mention
Rookie QB's count since they were an unknown factor before the 2012 season, the job all 5 coaches on this list did was impressive.

That would also mean you have to put Gary kubiac and Marvin Lewis on the list.

To me the best guys are ones who motivate, game plan and are leaders. Hoody, Coughlin, Sean Payton, Jim Harbaugh, Jeff Fischer, Pete Carroll...I would even put Shanahan and Rex Ryan in there as well as Andy Reid. But I think the best guy right now is Jim Harbaugh. He has completely changed the culture of that entire organization. He's also a great play caller and motivator. Not sure Tomlin is much of a x and o guy but seems to be a great leader and motivator. Kubiak seems to be a real good x and o guy and can scheme but doesn't do much for me as a leader of men.

True, meant to put Kubiak but spaced out, Lewis also did a pretty good job.
