Redskins News & Notes Chapter 6

Felt we kind of needed a fresh thread (once we get to training camp we can probably stop with these news and notes of the offseason threads)

Anyhow, how do we all feel about the news that Adam Carriker will be starting training camp on the PUP list? Not a big deal or cause for concern?

Lotus 06-14-2013 08:12 AM

Re: Redskins News & Notes Chapter 6

I say Carriker is not a big deal. He's a pro and will be ready for the season if he can be. In the meantime, the young bucks will get more work. On that note, I hope we see more burst from Jarvis Jenkins than we did last year, when he was recovering from injury.

Re: Redskins News & Notes Chapter 6

The loss of Carriker isn't a huge loss in and of itself but we're thin now at DE with Worthington also out

Re: Redskins News & Notes Chapter 6

I'm actually worried about carriker. I can easily see him being that "surprise" cut. Especially when Adam said that he still has knee problems and can't fully bend his knee.

Re: Redskins News & Notes Chapter 6

I won't be surprised if Carriker starts the regular season on PUP too. I know it's still early but it sounds like he still has a way to go. Jenkins needs to step it up.

In other news... I applied for Production Intern with the skins. Would love to move down there and work for this org.

On Carriker.. I dont see it as a huge deal, I want Jenkins getting more time honestly.. but the depth factor kinda bugs me.. I'd like Jenkins to start either way but I'd rather have Carriker behind him than not.

If he ain't out with one thing, he's out with "blisters".

I hope you get the job, Meks. Job? Is it really a job if you're working for the 'Skins? :)

About Carriker, I don't have a problem with it at all. He's an old vet; does he need training camp? As long as he gets a few preseason games in I'm happy.

Let me give you one very important piece of advice should you get an interview. Don't tell them how much you love the Redskins. I mean yeah you can touch on it. But trust me, they don't like when they ask people why they want the job or internship and all people talk about is "Oh man, I love the Redskins. They're my favorite team of all time. I've got every jersey of the 1991 Super Bowl team..." They want to know that you're serious about the job and not looking for an excuse to say I work for the Redskins

If you change 'Redskins' for 'Men', this is exactly how SS blew his chance at the dream job at the bath house he'd always wanted.

True story.

Good luck to Meks!!!

Didn't expect anything from Carriker. Nasty injury and he's long in the tooth. Time for Jenkins to step up, but who's his backup? We suddenly feel thin on the d-line??

MTK 06-14-2013 01:47 PM

Re: Redskins News & Notes Chapter 6

Merling will have the chance to step up too. Probably his last shot. We also re-signed Kedric Golston so the cupboard isn't exactly bare for DE depth.

Sux about ac. Suspected it. Probably our best pass rushing lineman. But I do expect Jenkins now to bust out. If that's the proper term.

I really want to append a "Roy Hibbert" no homo" " here.

I like AC, I hope he gets healthy, I thought he was pretty good defending against the run. I know we have a lot of depth at DE, but I felt he was a key loss last year on the D.

There is a big drop off from Carriker to those two, IMO. I was hoping that the Skins would have a solid rotation at DE this season rather than depth consisting of two marginal NFL players.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Skins pick up another DE or even trade for one before the regular season begins.

Don't forget that Cofield can play DE if necessary. Nield, please step up.
Might as well get ready for the 2014 NFL draft.
No! We can save the season like Vinny Cerrato did in 2008 when Phillip Daniels went down. We just give a second round pick and change to some team for a disgruntled DE, and we're set!

I wrote nothing that suggested that I think we're doomed without Carriker.

I did mention the word "trade" which set the Vinnyphobic among us into panic mode. Yes trade, as in a "we give you a late 6th rounder and you give us the player we want and an early 7th rounder" type of trade. Sheesh!

I was tossing that out there to no one in particular.

Just felt like injecting some doom and gloom to the flow.

Not trying to attack you about trading, just making a joke about what Cerrato did in "the bad old days" when we had a similar situation of a good DE injured. :)

The author wrote the following about our RB draftees:

"Thompson and Jamison each possess better vision and burst than straight-line speed, making them potential standouts in Washington's zone blocking attack. Thompson is the more electric of the two and has drawn comparisons to Darren Sproles from some scouts but is coming off of a torn ACL. Jamison, on the other hand, has a similar build and game to former Rutgers (and current Baltimore Ravens) star Ray Rice."

I'd just like to say that if Thompson plays like Darren Sproles and Jamison plays like Ray Rice I'll be very happy. ;)

Speaking literally on 'news and notes' how will your consumption of Redskins news change with the Post moving to a paywall type of system.. 20 free articles per month for non Post delivery subscribers, $9.99-$14.99/month after that.

I wouldn't care except John Keim has moved over there. Word for word he's the best on the Redskins beat. I can do without the Post features and columns but his recaps and notes/observations are quality work. Is he worth $10/month?

I believe there is a loophole to that. If you access the article via Facebook, Twitter, or a shared link (as in through this site) it doesn't count against your 20 articles

That would be great if so. I get the need to monetize web views but I'm philosophically opposed to paying a subscription fee for a online subscription to a newspaper. I'd rather pay a la carte for the articles I read rather than a subscription for the 99.7% of the paper that I don't.

what money are we going to use to sign him long term now anyways? is he okay being paid in mcdonald's coupons?

redskins = broke = cannot sign a big, long-term deal.

now, i'm not sure they would if they could right now due to the injuries, which is what the article is saying, but that whole point is (s)moot.

Orakpo counts something like 5 mil against this years cap. They could very easily sign Orakpo to a long term deal and actually have his cap number go down this year. The salary cap is not stopping a new deal for Orakpo.
