Happy fourth of july & independence day

Variously known as the Fourth of July and Independence Day, July 4th has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution (1775-83). In June 1776, representatives of the 13 colonies then fighting in the revolutionary struggle weighed a resolution that would declare their independence from Great Britain. On July 2nd, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later its delegates adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson. From 1776 until the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence, with typical festivities ranging from fireworks, parades and concerts to more casual family gatherings and barbecues.

It seems to mean a little more when you see it in print. With that said what is everyone doing for the 4th this year?

I finally get a long weekend. We are going to Nags Heads Wed. night and coming home Saturday morning. We would stay for the whole weekedn but need to get ready for our trip to Disney on the 11th. I have not had any real vaction time over the past few years so I'm going to enjoy two short work weeks with long weekends.

I'm going to make a stop up to PA and get some Phantom Fireworks, because Northern VA fireworks are just snakes and sparklers...

I'm hoping the rain holds off enough so we can do some boating tomorrow.

We're having a little party on Saturday, fireworks in the evening on the lake and we have a prime view on our deck, it's always a good time.

Nice, I just got back from a week in Nags Head. We had 18 adults and 4 babies in a huge house right on the beach near mile marker 17; it was a blast!

Unfortunately, because of that trip my 4th will be super low key since I also have to work on Friday. My family is in OC sending me pictures of crab feasts and my nieces and nephews playing on beach and it's a bit torturous. Jerks.

Spent Wed-Sun at the beach. Got some much needed color, down time, steamed crabs, and drinking done. Less than a month before Baby #3 graces our house with her presence. So it'll be me, the misses and 3 daughters. Heaven help me :)

i hope you took a lot of pictures bc you arent going to the beach, having down time or drinking any time soon.

i have 1 and it is a 24-7 handful.

when i feel overwhelmed i find solace in thinking about parents with 3 or 4 or 5 kids .. and i feel better.

god bless you.

Sounds like a good time. We took a some friends who had 3 kids to Nags Head last year and I'll have to say there is never a dull moment. I told them when they were leaving we would have them back in 10 yrs.

Actually, we're taking a week in September. Gotta break the baby in. My folks own a place outside Rehoboth, so we try to get down once a month. Plus they love being around the kids, and are a huge help with them.

While they are always a handful, it does get better. Things and priorities do change, but I know I wouldn't have it any other way. I still play softball one night a week (I used to play 4 nights a week) and my wife gets her nights out, so we try to balance it all. And so far it's working. Adding a 3rd will take some more adjusting, but we're ready.

Frederick has it's pluses and minuses, but it's a great place to live. I live about 2 minutes from Harry Grove Stadium and we'll take the girls over to the Costco parking lot to watch the fireworks. We figure they'll be ready for a game next season when they are 6 and 5. Will be nice to share a ball game with them. They already know that Daddy watches football on Sundays :)

There is never a dull moment for sure. My kids are clowns (so they definitely take after me) and are a lot of fun.

Believe it or not it gets easier with more kids; the first is the hardest. I seriously could care for one baby with my eyes closed at this point. It is like going on a scare roller coaster for the second time you know when to brace yourself for the hills.

It can be done. Just watch out when the oldest hits around 13, 13-19 will drive you nuts Speaking as the father of 3 girls ...and now 3 grandsons, you can do it.

Also, the older kid helps out with the new baby, even if it's only keeping them occupied for a minute here and there. They'll play together so you won't have to hold the "only child" 24/7.

Congrats, BDB...I do quake in fear about the thought of 3 daughters....good luck to you. :D
