whos more overrated
whos more of a overrated LB lavar arrington, brian urlacher, ray lewis they had this question on nfl network..
LAvar arrington goods- great tackler, good run stopper, great cover guy, ball hawk(great ball stripper), great blitzer, blazin speed bads- overruns plays like crazy, cnt read defenses, brian urlacher- goods-great tackler, good work habit, good run stopper bad- hes not old but for a linebacker hes gettin up there, bad cover, pretty slow runner, not a great blitzer( basically hes mediocre) ray lewis good- great speed, good tackler, great cover, great blitzer all around great great work habit, watches game film, bad- age is up there, his loud ass mouth , undersized ps... even when antonio pierce was with us i thought he wa soverrated, he did good because of gregs williams defensive schemes, lets see how he does in new york, |
Re: whos more overrated
brian urlacher is overrated. true, lavar does overrun plays a bit, but still, he makes up for it when he is at his best.
|
Re: whos more overrated
Ranking them in order:
1 Urlacher: He is good, but defintley not the hall of fame; feared guy he is made out to be somtimes. I really dont even give him a second thought as a main worry when we play the Bears. 2 Arrington: A big over-rated; still a good peice to the puzzel, but he hasent taken that step yet from good to great. 3 Ray Lewis: Not over-rated. That is a guy defenses plan around; however when they do attack him, they are successful alot. However when you are one of the main reasons offense's have to plan around you, you're not over-rated. He's defintley on the decline (showing it staring last year), but as a whole he is exellent. |
Re: whos more overrated
Definitely Urlacher. I honestly don't think that LaVar is an over-rated as everyone is saying. EVERYONE has their flaws and I just don't feel like he falls into the "over-rated" category. Lewis is the man, he will never be over-rated. His career IS on it's downswing however.

Re: whos more overrated
Accidently double posted. Just deleting.
|
Re: whos more overrated
urlacher was drafted the same year as arrington...so if urlacher is gettin up there in years, then what is arrington?
|
Re: whos more overrated
Seriously... Recently it seems like a lot of us are calling players "old" when they are in their LOOOOW 30s. LOL
|
Re: whos more overrated
Ray Lewis #1 - Sorry folks - Old Grey Mare just ain't what he used to be. Everyone saw him making a fool of himself on Monday NIght Football complaining about all the "double teams" he was taking. If he's really as great as he says he should be more than used to it. The problem was, I believe it was Sheilds, rocked him 1 on 1 most of the game. Priest embarrassed him, and many games this year were played like that. Ray Lewis used to be great, but he's on the down slope, and he's just a murderer that can play a sport.
He had a mediocre year, especially by his standards, yet people are too afraid to call him for what he really is. I'm sick of hearing how great Baltimore's defense is (who finished behind us in nearly every category) and how great Ray Lewis is. He used to be, no doubt, but he hasn't been at that level for a long time. As far as LaVar and Urlacher - they're about even. Both very good linebackers, Urlacher has great side-to-side running skills. Urlacher will make a lot of really solid plays for you, LaVar will make spectacular plays, and then absolute bonehead plays. There's no perfect player in this league, everyone has their downfalls. |
Re: whos more overrated
lavar arrington is like 28 years old. that's not old in this league. he still probably has a good seven years of play left in him.
|
Re: whos more overrated
Not the way he sacrifices his body, I could certainly see injuries becoming more of a facet of LaVar's career. He sacrifices his body, like us fans love, but it doesn't equal into longevity.
|
Re: whos more overrated
Arrington would be a absolute super star if he played weakside DE
|
Re: whos more overrated
Urlacher is a month or so older than LaVar, so how is age an issue??
|
Re: whos more overrated
John Hasbrouck... you could also say that about Taylor. Some people are physical freaks, but that's why people play in their respective positions because of their talents at that position.
|
Re: whos more overrated
im not sure, but i guess its because urlacher maybe didn't have as good as season as lavar did when he was healthy. then again im not sure so don't think that's what i think. actually lavar isn't like 28. i miscalculated. i just found out that me and lavar have the same birthday, and i was born in 1988, ten years after lavar, so he was ten years old when i was born, so that makes him 26 right now, but he'll be 27 in june. some players last really long, but i'd say that he has 8 good years left in him if he stays healthy.

Re: whos more overrated
lavar ended the career of enemy #1, so how can he be over rated :P
|
Re: whos more overrated
um, who is enemy #1?
|
Re: whos more overrated
I think they r all overrated to some extent compared to lbs in the HOF, but that doesn't mean they still aren't very good to great lbs. Not many speak ill of lewis cuz he is a hell of a lb and the face of one of the top 5 or so defenses of all time(especially considering what the ravens offense did or better yet didn't do that year), but he has the same problem as urlacher, take away productive big guys on the line in front of them and they aren't nearly as much of an impact on the game as they are made out to be. Lewis isn't even the best defensive player on his team, Ed Reed stole that spot 2 years ago and hammered it home this past season. Arrington's main weakness, like others have posted, is his tendancy to completely overrun a play or commit a bonehead penalty that extends drives that usually lead to points. But of the 3 Arrington has done the most with the least amount around him as well as the fact that this will be his first year in the league with the same defensive system in place for more than one season. I know I'm a bit biased towards Arrington with him being a Skin, but another edge he gets in my opinion is that he can also line up effectively at de while I've honestly never seen the other 2 be anything other than mlbs in the nfl (I know urlacher was a safety in college). All in all practically every player out there presently and from the past are/were to some extent over rated but that's to be expected with sports figures.
um, who is enemy #1?
aikman I believe is who he is referring to. |
Re: whos more overrated
Ask Troy Aikman he will tell ya, that's if he remembers.
|
Re: whos more overrated
oh. how did he cut his career short. was it like a sack that injured him for the rest of the season, then he decided to retire, or was it a sack that ended his career? or if it wasn't a sack, how did he do it.
|
Re: whos more overrated
he said he actually enjoys watching the clip of LA ending his career... i like him as a commentator though.

if u've never seen the clip u have to find it somewhere, it's one of the hardest hits I've ever seen anyone in football take (still nothing compared to that hit al michaels took). it wasn't a sack, but pretty damn close to it as aikman threw it away right before arrington, who'd closed the last 10 or so yards on him in what seemed like the blink of an eye, just blasted the ver living snot out of aikman. |

anyone else find that slightly disturbing that he'd enjoy that? |
Re: whos more overrated
if you could tell me how his career was ended that would be great. although, i don't mind hearing how he enjoys watching his career go down the drain.
|
Re: whos more overrated
he had back problems and that was his 4th concussion in 20 starts, so he was aging and piling up injuries at an amazing pace... he could have had a couple years left in him if not for that play.
|

I'm sure someone has a link to the clip or even have it programed in as a screen saver or something, which would actually be kinda kewl. |
Re: whos more overrated
apparently there's a Troy aikman nfl football video game for sega released in 1995 or something...
|

yeah, said that when they played it back during a skins game he was doing... the other guy was like "WHAT??? how can you say that?" "well, you know... its not like i really remember taking that hit"... i was laughing soo hard. |
Re: whos more overrated
Let's play guess who offiss pick's. :biggthump
|
Re: whos more overrated
as far as some of the most overrated players goes, players like john lynch, mike alstott, champ, trotter, jake plummer & jake delhome should get more mention.
|
Re: whos more overrated
TheMalcolmConnection I consider LaVar a great upfield rusher-but as an all around LB I rate him B+-he also over runs plays WAY to often. You forget at Penn St. he was crashing the gate every play.
|
Re: whos more overrated
I don't like Urlacher at all. I think he is overrated because he is white. I think he's a pretty good ball player, but that's as far as it goes. I don't see many middle linebackers make as many plays after the first down has been made than Brian Urlacher.
|
Re: whos more overrated
TMConnection it would be great to have Taylor at OLB- would he be destructive there-a position-or we go to a 3-4 with Arrington-Marshall-Clemons-Taylor

I guess we can take an oversized safety who may go down as 1 of the great's of all time, and make him an undersized LB who instead of killing WR's will be getting hit by offensive linemen, TE's, and fullback's, doesn't sound like a well thought out plan to utilize his talent's? |

Exactly. That's what I was saying about my post in case anyone got confused...:) |

Has anyone noticed that we never talk about Marcus Washington. What is the deal guys? He is a playmaker. And he was a big part of our success on D last year. |
Re: whos more overrated
Agreed about Washington.
He's a quiet star, but if he has a repeat of last season in 2005 I think we'll start to hear alot more about him. He's not a household name just yet, but he's well on his way. |
Re: whos more overrated
Someone said that Arington has a good seven years of linebacking ahead of him. For the team's sake that better be right or they could face a big cap hit if they have to release him.
Someone said that Arrington makes up for his mistakes when he's playing at his best. Excuse me, but you don't think that's equally true of Brian Urlacher or Ray Lewis? Someone talked about how Arrington is always sacrificing his body. Sorry, that's one thing I've never noticed. Remember, he sat out about 80% of last season with an injury that was supposed to keep him out three games and a bye week. I'm not saying he was dogging it, but he sure wasn't "sacrificing his body". If you have a 3-4 defesne with Arrington, Marshall, Clemons and Taylor as the linebackers, you damned well better have some outstanding run-stoppers at all three DL positions or teams will run the ball down your throat all day long. The linebackers will never get to blitz because it will always be 2nd and 3... |
