Who will miss the Redskins the most?
Matty's poll on who the Redskins will miss the most got me thinking about which player would miss the Redskins the most. Will Smoot and Pierce miss Gregg Williams and his system? Will Coles be happy with even fewer balls thrown his way? What do you guys think?
(If someone could make a poll, that would be great. I don't know how.) |
Re: Who will miss the Redskins the most?
Gotta be Pierce... Smoot showed he could play before Williams. Pierec uses intelligence moreso than skill. There is always the chance he could be misused in more of a skill dependent way in Giants land. Plus I think the Giants have somewhat less talent on the defensive side of the ball. Our secondary certainly was better than theirs is going to be.

Re: Who will miss the Redskins the most?
Put me down for Pierce as well. I like what I saw last year, but let's face it, Williams' scheme made everybody look good on our D. I think Smoot is the real deal and will be fine. Coles is going to be unhappy wherever he is because, well, he's Laverneous Coles and that's what he does. It'll be interesting to see what Pierce can do on his own in NY though.

Re: Who will miss the Redskins the most?
Pierce is a system player. Smoot is for real and so is Coles. Pierce will only have 100 tackles next year because he is going to be on a D that is on the field alot.

Re: Who will miss the Redskins the most?
The one thing to think about with Smoot is the turf he'll be playing half his games on, It's easier and faster for WR's. However, he will have to face a decling Farve, Garcia/Harrington & whoever is the Bears QB this season, so that will work in his favor.

Re: Who will miss the Redskins the most?
I agree with the other replys.

Re: Who will miss the Redskins the most?
I still miss Art Monk, Gary Clark, and Ricky Sanders!
|
Re: Who will miss the Redskins the most?
I think all three will fit in just fine with their new teams.
I don't buy this talk that Pierce is a system player. He picked up a complicated system last year and ran it like he had played in it his entire career. He guided the system, not the other way around. He's got the smarts and the skills to fit in anywhere. The Vikes D should be improved but if they're not and they're involved in weekly shoot-outs, Smoot could miss Washington a bit, especially playing half his games on a fast track in Minnesota. Coles and Pennington had a connection before he left so they should be able to rekindle that. |
Re: Who will miss the Redskins the most?
Good for everyone. It's working out for each team, including us. If it wasn't for the cap hit, I'd say I was fairly happy when you take out the intangibles of how each respective player got to their destinations.

Re: Who will miss the Redskins the most?
I don't think they'll miss Coles because the offense sucked anyway. I guess it depends on what your opinion of the team is. I think the D will most Smoot and Pierce, however, I think the team will be better, so we won't miss anyone. I don't remember our actual record last year, (kinda sad) but if we're better, how will we miss them at all?
|
Re: Who will miss the Redskins the most?
Pierce for sure, and I don't think that means he will be a bust just that I think he will miss being on Williams defense. Smoot will do fine in Minnesotta and Coles couldn't wait to leave, so that only leaves Pierce. Lets face it, with how well Pierce played last year there is only one direction he can go and that's down. And if he does not have as good a year and the Giants defense sucks than maybe he will miss DC...

Re: Who will miss the Redskins the most?
I think Smoot really wanted to be back, (at the right price of course). He seemed to really like the city and the fans. He seemed to be more emotionally vested in the team than Pierce.
|
Re: Who will miss the Redskins the most?
Definitely Pierce. I like him, he's a good player, and Im honestly shocked he wasn't pulled away earlier. However, Williams made him better than he is.
|
Re: Who will miss the Redskins the most?
ALso, I think Smoot will miss being here the most, but Pierce will miss the success of the defense the most.
|
Re: Who will miss the Redskins the most?
Who will miss US the most? I bet Smoot does...
|
Re: Who will miss the Redskins the most?
I think its Pierce, he thrived in a system that made him a star. The defense in New York will not be as well coached as the redskins, he will realize that the williams system helped him become who he is and he will maybe get released and come back like Trotter with the eagles. give it about 2 years
|
Re: Who will miss the Redskins the most?
Too bad he will most likely be replaced by Marshall who is young and already knows the system.
|
Re: Who will miss the Redskins the most?
He can still accept a back up role untill he gets his chance, and by that time Barrow would have retired
|
Re: Who will miss the Redskins the most?
Or hopefully been cut if he can't play next year...

I wouldn't be surprised to see Smoot back with us later in his career. I think Smoot was a much bigger leader for the team then people think and he will really be missed this year and in years to come. |
Re: Who will miss the Redskins the most?
i think well miss smoot the most because he was a solid nu,ber 2 Cb w/o him we wouldnt of been able to blitz as much as we did.....so i think well miss him.........I STILL DNT KNO Y EVRYONES MISSIN PIERCE HES ONLY GOOD UNDER GREG WILLIAMS D.... hes probably going to suck in NY!!!!!!!! i mean i personally dnt think theres such thing as hidden talents......nd obviously they didnt find him talented in college because he was undrafted they didnt find him talented as a starter in free agency.....HE WAS ONLY Good becauSE HE WAS IN GW'S DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!! so was a million other no name guys.....does that mean we shold be upset if we lose one of them because they asked for a big contract? ......all im saying is he wouldve been nice to stay becuase he was flourishing with our defense....but ill garentee we wnt miss him because of his great play in NY

Re: Who will miss the Redskins the most?
It's one of those things where you get attached to the city too. I'd love to see him back, but not as a has-been.

Talking about a beast! I hated that he messed up his career! |
Re: Who will miss the Redskins the most?
Around this time last year we were going into the season with Mike Barrow at MLB, Pierce did a great job given his opportunity last season, but I am hopeful that Barrow can make a full recovery and we can see exactly what we missed from him last year (who's to say he wouldn't have had as good a year as Pierce?).
With Coles gone, I'm pretty confident in Santana Moss as our "go to guy" next year, they guy only caught something like 45 catches last year (for a good avg), 35 of them for FD's I believe, Coles caught 90, with about 52 or so for FDs, so as you can see Santana should help us move the chains a little better as well as giving us the speed missing from Coles last year. Of the 3 Smoot is the one player I will miss the most, as I liked the guy, but last year we wondered how we'd survive without Bailey ... along came Shawn Springs and life went on in our secondary, now Smoot is gone, who is gonna step up to the plate (possibly Wilds, Harris, a draftee or FA signee), my point is we could again have another great CB addition that makes us forget about the previous holder at that position. |
Re: Who will miss the Redskins the most?
I think emotionally Smoot will miss us most and I think he while not strugling may be a little bit of a disappointment in Minn . I think the reason he was great here is because he was always a No2 CB . There really wasn't the preasure on him, not just because who was lined up the other side of the field but who was in front and this year behind him. Our D has talent everywhere the Vikes untill now have been an offence first team and Outside Winfield and Hoven who has left now i think I cannot think of a Vikes D player and who is thier D co-ordinator?
Pierce shown flashes of being good before this year, but only flashes had he been up and comming we would have given him a two/three year contract last year like McCants did. Instead we went for Barrow who I think if healthy will be a monster in the middle. Not that I wish AP any ill will he went to NY for the money and to be a starter ... i hope he does continue his break out. Coles... pah Coles I really liked him but he was apparently poison in the locker room end of the year last year despite having a career year for receptions... if he misses us ... though. I still miss Wilber Mashell. |
Re: Who will miss the Redskins the most?
i think smoot will miss the skins when brett favre is throwing tds all over the place but i think peirce will miss the skins the most when they sweep the giants next season. coles won't miss the skins very much and the skins won't miss him either.

Re: Who will miss the Redskins the most?
