Actually, if you wanted to say something belonged to Joe Gibbs, it would be "Gibbs' ".

Singular form (as in there is only one Joe Gibbs) then you would say this is Joe Gibbs's team. But in plural as in Joe and his sons, this is the Gibbs' racing team.

7th grade was too long ago, but the fact of the matter is there is no apostrophes in Gibbs.

The point is that there are plenty of people on this board who rather not consult their dictionaries when writing posts. If we start harping on every dangling participle then things will get very dull around here. Besides, I often get a kick out of what people type when they are rushing to make a point. I think the Gibbs' would too!!!! :laughing2

Eh, it was just something that I have been seeing a lot lately, and sorry to sound anal about it but it just plain bugged me. How can you be such a die hard fan and not know how to spell the last name of the guy who pretty much put this team on the map, and is looking to take us back to glory.

Ha, definetely a funny debate...

1. I understand no one wants to e chastised for grammar on a message board.
2. Joe Gibbs is a hall of fame coach, and more importantly: he is without a doubt the most important person to the Redskins Organization in our long history. So i do understand that you would like to show them respect.

In conclusion: We all love the Redskins, and we all have the utmost respect and love for the man: Joe Gibbs.

P.S: Is it possible we will have the same argument about Gregg Williams 5 or 6 years from now? Hopefully we will earn that prestige, and I am pretty sure that he can.

This is not a grammar class. This is a discussion board for those people like ourselves who wan't to chat about our team. If you want to grade english papers then become a teacher and nag my children about the ipottence ov spelling and grahammer. Leave us out of it. The way tyhat we express our views spelled correctly, or gramatically correct or not does not matter. As long as we all understand each other. OK. Bye the way shouldn't the d in drew be capitalized?

As Mark McGwire said today, I didn't name any names, and I am not pointing fingers. I just would like to help the Warpath overcome these issues at hand. Or some BS like that.

It's okay, Drew.

I've been guilty of a little persnicketiness myself.

When offiss first joined the board, I actually went through each and every one of his posts and edited them for spelling, grammar and punctuation. I don't know if it was some perverse fascination with my newly-acquired moderator status-- or maybe I just needed to get more fiber in my diet-- but for some bizarre reason I spent a good portion of my spare time overhauling offiss's initial contributions to our board.
