Courtney Brown - It's Either Washington or Denver
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A48157-2005Mar18.html
According to the Washington Post, Courtney Brown will decide whether he will sign with Washington or Denver by Monday. Brown opted not to visit with the Seahawks or Bucs, even though both clubs expressed interest in signing Brown. While Brown knows Redskins LaVar Arrington, Brandon Noble, and his second cousin Pierson Prioleau, the Broncos are offering Brown a starting position (whereas Washington has not done so officially). Although the Redskins have more cap room than the Broncos to sign Brown, Denver is reportedly trying to create more space to sign him. |
Re: Courtney Brown - It's Either Washington or Denver
I'd be shocked if he doesn't sign here. Just seems to good to pass up. He would be re-united with his old roomate in LaVar. And our defense was nearly number 1. He could revive an injury plauged career. But if hes doesn't sign not the end of the world.

I agree; I think were going ot land him here. I just hope we dont give him some crazy deal. But I'm defintley glad to see him possibly ending up here. |
Re: Courtney Brown - It's Either Washington or Denver
If he comes in, it better be an incentive deal.
Also signing Brown would allow us to keep our D line even more fresh. There will be some serious rotation going on and we will be able to wear out an Oline. |
Re: Courtney Brown - It's Either Washington or Denver
Would you guys rather start or play with your cousin. Money will talk.

Money will talk! But there is a few other reason for him to pick denver. One being that they have won and been in the play-offs a lot! As for us one play-off run in over 10 years is not good! Let us hope that Williams D is the reason he comes here! Because he has been on a loser and lets face it Redskins have been the Browns he know all to well. Money talks and lets hope the friendship and a great D coach also plays well. All of this is for not if he[Brown] is not sound! |

I agree - money will talk. Too my mind, however, that is pretty short sighted. I don't know what hte work situtation would be like in Denver, but it's pretty clear that in Washington, he would be going to a good locker room and get to work w/ excellent coaches, family and friends. When you get right down to it - unless Denver blows the doors off the Skins offer - the money we are talking about in either situation would set you up for life. Maybe I am naive, but, if I can be rich and have a great job, or be slightly richer and have a less good job, I'll take the great job and suffer being "merely" rich. |
Re: Courtney Brown - It's Either Washington or Denver
I think a player should always be wary of a promise to start. Denver (who are turning into a Redskins-west, they are so active in free agency) is looking at the best available player at a position, making promises they really can't keep (is Shanahan saying that if Brown is out performed he's starting anyway?), and hoping to change something that wasn't working. Sound familiar?

Re: Courtney Brown - It's Either Washington or Denver
We have more money to offer...unless Denver makes some moves. Anyone think it's pretty cool that Daniels is in there helping to get this guy signed when he is ostensibly going to be taking snaps away from him. Maybe Gibbs is doing something right over at Redskins park.

what ever is best for the team. i like that mentality and i think a lot of the players on the skins are starting to believe it will work. |
Re: Courtney Brown - It's Either Washington or Denver
is it safe to say that if brown does sign with the skins that drafting a de is no longer a possibility at the # 9 spot ?
|
Re: Courtney Brown - It's Either Washington or Denver
I think we should forget Brown and draft a DE in the later rounds.

Incentive laden deal. And this play with your cousin and ex-roommate stuff is ridiculous. That's a bomb waiting to blow. In any workplace it's not good to have a bunch of relatives and roommates working together. Too much fun and not a lot of 'get done'. Going back to the Vinny Cerrato interview. Follow up question. How does a player's age (Bruce Smith) and/or injury history (Courtney Brown) factor into 'the process'. To me it should be automatic. No consideration. That's the only reason I'm against drafting Erasmus James. Give me Roth or give me death. :oink: |

Ditto. :oink: |
Re: Courtney Brown - It's Either Washington or Denver
If Browns plays for us, his career will be ressurected. :oink:

Re: Courtney Brown - It's Either Washington or Denver
Maybe Arrington will take pay cut, a la Pennington-Coles, to make more room for Courtney Brown. :oink:

The article in the post said that it was an incentive deal based on health. I agree, and think that it's an intelligent decision. Because we control our risk. |
Re: Courtney Brown - It's Either Washington or Denver
Risk mitigation is the key here. Lots of upside with this guy but we can't go selling the farm on him. I an relieved he didn't sign before he left. It show's we exhibited some type of restraint in our offer otherwise he'd have been running to the closest Check Into Cash to get an advance on the money.

Re: Courtney Brown - It's Either Washington or Denver
It's definitely an incentive contract they're talking about, like the one we gave to Walt Harris. The question is will Denver offer more GUARANTEED money than we will?
Redskins Pros Arrington and his cousin Prioleau Greg Blache is the best at maximizing DL talent Better defensive ranking last year than the Broncos Denver Pros Winning track record recently Better opportunity to start I dunno, tough to call there. I think you guys are right, should come down to cold hard cash. I get the feeling the Skins are offering more cash than Denver but only as incentives. If Denver offers him more guaranteed money it's tough to say what he'll do, probably go with the Broncos. Who knows though, I guess we all wait till Monday! |

I'm very aware that they have consistently had a better record than us - I'm not saying that Washington offers a better track to success (though I think we're on the way up). Denver has been in dogfights every year to make the playoffs, and have had no real success there since elway retired. |
Re: Courtney Brown - It's Either Washington or Denver
Brud - we've been praying just to lose a dog fight and ALMOST make the playoffs.
